Great War Miniatures Dragoon Guards: Figure Review
« on: January 07, 2017, 10:00:03 PM »
Please find attached a link to my Balaclava Build Blog and my review of the latest Great War Miniatures Dragoon Guards/Royal cavalry miniatures (28mm). I thought to include a couple of tips when working with these miniatures. Please let me know if there are any other features anyone would like me to include in these reviews - presuming anyone finds them useful.

Hi there ...
Thank you for such review ( two nice reviews in fact)

I have just finished altering the dragoon masters to turn them into the Inniskilling's ...
Basically no gauntlets.
I will hopefully get them to the mould makers this week.

You briefly mentioned the horse bridles ... and I know comment has been made on another forum (one that I am not a member of)
The horse equipment is taken from John and Boris Mollo's book Into the Valleyof Death...
The show the equipment as being the same for both the heavy's and light's
I have of course found a photo of a Dragoon Guard that makes a mockery of all my best efforts...
Note the valise and high boots :?

All the best. Aly
YES!... I KNOW I AM A BUTTERFLY.

The horse of the model is like a pony.

Thanks for the review.
Costanzo...Yeah, I too thought that the horse did not look particularly imposing, at least not Heavy Cavalry imposing. Still a nice range though.

Aly,

I just love your work and appreciate your comments on my review immensely. I responded to the query regarding horse furniture on that other forum (TMP) and as I'm sure you are aware - there was no particular consistency up until just after the war as Colonels of the regiment were responsible for supply by the time of Crimea - so no standards were in place to that degree.

I can't wait for your Inniskillings. I don't think I'd have indulged in my boyhood Balaclava romance in 28mm if it weren't for Great War Miniatures so you have opened the market right up.

What do you think you will be working on next? I'm sure you get bombarded by people's wish list. Mine starts with the Chassuers de Afrique.  :D

Forgot to say that if anyone is getting into this period then Mollos' and Fosten's Into the Valley of Death is always going to be the first and probably last stop for uniform reference when it comes to the British cavalry.
