Caernarfon Postern.

Caernarfon's Postern gate in the town wall is rather interesting, heavily defended with both doors and a portcullis. A few pictures of my nearly finish, but not yet painted effort for my 28mm Welsh Wars.

Quite nice. I built something similar based on no castle in particular. Using the Hirst molds gives a much chunkier structure than pre made castles, not better or worse, just different.

How much more are you looking to build?

Please post follow ups as you get it done.

Gosh. That looks brilliant. Much more like proper castle architecture than the usual plastic products. Looking forward to seeing this project progress  :)

Very nice stuff.

But does it not weigh about the same as a real castle?

Thanks for the comments guys, I'll be adding at least another two lengths of wall, the idea is for an attack on the town (Madog's revolt 1294/95) so I will add town buildings, Blacksmith, Shops, dwellings.

Weight is a consideration, I cast using herculite 2, which is strong and fairly light, that and building modular keeps everything within reason.

Ive yet to find any plastic that comes close to real walls, anyway it's great fun building it yourself, even if it does take as long as the real thing :)

Wow, that is awesome. Can't wait to see it all painted up and finished!

The Hirst Arts molds are a lot of fun, aren't they? I was part of a group purchase of a dozen or so of them six or eight years ago, but I've lost track of them - they're presumably in one of the other guy's storage cupboard gathering dust...

I will keep the post updated.

Great fun Hirst's molds, the trouble is insanity sets in, your imagination is the only limit to what you can build.

Really great - rings pretty true to the postern wall. I'm from 5 mins away from there!

Thanks for that, bit more to do yet, town ditch, windlass for the portcullis.

The Wetherspoon Tafarn Y Porth has a good view of the walls, had many a pint in there.

The real thing today.

Ew, prydferth!

I've got a very distinct memory (and scar) of being 8 and trying to jump onto that low wall just there and taking the front of my shin off! My family are in Felinheli, so haven't been into dre for years - I hear it's looking splendid nowadays. Anyway, sorry - nothing medieval about that nonsense!
