Walking Dead All Out War Solo Game Review
« on: January 12, 2017, 02:21:47 PM »
I've been having a lot of fun with The Walking Dead All Out War and so decided to have a go at posting up a review of the Solo Game on my blog here, for those who may be interested.

Great post.  I avoided the KS but am circling back around again for retail.  For the solo play, is what you need in the core box or do you need one of the expansions?  Also, is there any kind of progression or campaign with the solo play or is it just used for one off games?

Thanks

You can play solo games straight out of the core box but there is a dedicated solo starter set Prelude to Woodbury which includes a Solo Event Deck. If you play straight out of the core box there are some Event Cards which affect one of the two players but this is easily overcome as it just means all of the Event Card affect the solo player.

As for a campaign, not specifically...though the Expansions and Boosters give evolving character cards...so Rick and Carl in the early days aren't as good as Rick and Carl a bit later on. So I think it would be easy to make your own campaign.

The Days Gone By expansion also has rules for creating your own survivors. I am not sure how good they are since this expansion has not arrived at my local store for me to purchase yet.

i got the big box from mantic so have all of wave 1, They dicked me over by not having a Glen model!!

Anyways, the character creation rules are good. You pay in points for your dice (melee shoot defence), then you can get some skills. the skills are all taken (from what i have seen) from existing characters, for instance Sandra has 'nimble' (can escape combat). which is a skill you can buy for points.

The only continuity in the campaign is that if someone gets KO'd then they loss a few health points for the next game. Also some weapons have amputate (hatchets). If a player gets bit, one with amputate can remove the bite token by chopping a limb off. They then loose that limb forever. If its an army they cannot use 2 hand weapons etc, leg they cant run, but can still sneak.

Bites basically drain health over time until you die and become a walker.

I would say search for some of the forums where people have come up with a lot of house rules, for instance the book doesn't really cover buildings in detail. The campaign runs really well solo for days gone bye.

I will say this game is hard though, The only winners so far in my games have been zombies.

Nice review Sir, I'm very tempted. Are all the scenario's playable on the mat included with the game or do you need more space for some?

sorry to butt in. All the scenarios are based around 20x20 inch mat. even in days gone bye. The only notes mantic have mentioned of anything bigger, is that rifles have a 30 inch range, and that the game space gets bigger by how many points you use.

Nice review.  I've been zombie gaming for about 20 plus years so have a ton of stuff already.  Still tempted by this though.

They have component lists on the site.
http://www.manticgames.com/SiteData/Root/File/FREE%20RULES/TWD%20-%20AoW%20-%20Component%20List%20Wave%201.pdf

Or search "mantic walking dead first wave list".

In addition (for everyone), the Mantic shop:
http://www.manticgames.com/mantic-shop/the-walking-dead.html

Also shows images of the cards, etc for each product.
