New Netflix show - Frontier
« on: 20 January 2017, 12:06:26 PM »
I've just seen that there is a new show on Netflix called Frontier and is about the conflicts caused by the rivalries of the fur industry on the American frontier and stars Mr Khal Drogi from GoT.

It's taken me rather by surprise and as a Muskets and Tomahawks player I'm looking forward to it.

Does anyone have any more detail on it?

Stars Jason Momoa who was Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones.

It looks a bit iffy from the cllip. Ill still watch it.

Hmmm....The clip does not entice I must say... ::)  There are some many amazing stories that came out of this time period...I hope they tap into the rich historical documentation for inspiration....and up their costuming game a bit... ;)

Cheers,

It's been on the TV here in Canada already but I missed it... was planning on using the PVR but never got to it. <sigh>

Here is a review: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/arts/television/john-doyle-frontier-is-a-lively-yarn-about-canadas-fur-trade-wars/article32676310/

If you want true history look elsewhere - but for action style version it may be ok. I hear it does have a reasonable amount of 'adult language and actions' as seen in action movies etc.

Well, I've watched the first 2 episodes and I'm not overly impressed.  Clunky dialogue, thin and cliched characterization.  So pretty much the same as nearly every period action/drama I've seen in the last 5 years. Shame.

Wont be in a rush to watch the rest.

I think most "historical" dramas now set out to just be soft-porn soap operas in fancy dress with some gory fight scenes thrown in. They want to bring in the viewers and the majority of people don't care about the history behind the era it's set in.

It's a shame.
