Breaz' Brushes a medieval army (UPDATED May 08)
« on: January 20, 2017, 08:32:36 PM »
Hey there,

I'm a long time lurker and only recently started posting here. There is some amazing work posted on this forum that is very inspiring. So inspiring that I've decided to start a new army for this year. Not sure when it will be done but I have mapped out some of it to start with. I will be using the perry miniatures to create myself a medieval army. Early 1400's I think is an accurate style description. I do give myself some freedom because this is nothing based on true history but my own fantasy entirely. I will be using Lion Rampant as a rules basis.

Last year I already started working on models for forces of this style because this has been a long time dream for me to finish an entire army. I really got far but without much structure and I was all over the place when it came to painting units that would eventually be able to form an army. So this time I hope via this topic I can keep things a bit on track. If you are interested in my previous work I have a blog here: http://breazbrushes.blogspot.nl/

Without any further delay.
Pictures of my first new models.

These are my mounted men at arms. I named the lord "Vaneer Westmark". He is the guy in the middle with the hammer. Leading his Westmark army.
Let me know what you think ;)

Fantastic!!!!

I really like the banners, great colour combinations on the heraldry and very nicely put together.

And the choice of colours you've used on the figures themselves is great - I'm really a big fan of that sort of subdued palette, it's something I try to go for myself.

Is this collection going to be just using the Perry HYW range? Have you used their plastics of metals for the infantry? If you wait patiently they are going to be releasing a plastic cavalry box sometime in the future (no idea when though - fingers crossed for this year!).

I'm VERY interested in seeing more!

Thank you,

I am going to mainly use perry's. So far the idea is only the perry's. I am making a nice mix of plastics and metal models to give the units the same feel and dynamic.

These are the first of some Spearmen for the army. I still need to add some things to the bases though.

Thank you so much for the nice words everyone.

I have an update ready in the meantime.

These are my men at arms on foot.
I went for a lot of banners because it simply just looks really cool on the table.

I hope you like them

Love them!

By the way - I like the armour effect you've got. Do you by any chance use washes or the army painter 'quickshade' technique? It's something I'm looking into and was wondering if you used it on these models.

Thank you Charlie.

I have a very simple recipe for my metal armors. I paint it leadbelcher or boltgun metal (same GW paint but with a different name) and then go over it with their earth wash. After that I go back and highlight it a little where it seems right. I'm not that good at figuring out where I should and shouldnt highlight it too harsh and on the table this looks fairly decent.

Thanks for posting, your treatment of the armour is very effective. Also like the horses I think they came out well.
