uti, always good to hear from you.   I’m not entirely sure how a person decides that scratch building needs to be part of their bag of tricks if they are going to get the items they want for their collections, but for me one of the keys elements to taking on scratch building was deciding the type of materials I could comfortably work with.  I think because I grew up making models, plastic seemed to be a natural material for me to work with, and Duplos have really made my scratch building much better than it would have been without them.  At this point my scratch building materials are pretty well established as Evergreen Plastic, JTT Plastic, Plastruct Plastic, Duplos (and some Legos), yellow-grey (red and white box) Milliput, Squadron Green Putty, Krazy Glue, Plastruct Plastic Weld, and bits of broken toys found at the swap meet.

I use lego and duplo mainly to make the boxes to contain the rubber when I make moulds - but for the same reasons.  Strength of the interlocked corners and good right angled corners.

The wife builds stuff with my lego.  I just use it for scaffolding ... :D

steders, thank you.  I think you’ll enjoy using Duplos.
Hold on, are you saying I'm a baby?!!! I can use bigboy Lego you know!!

I've told a few mates about the Duplo internal structure and they all thought it was a great idea, I expect the charity shops will get hit pretty hard

steders, anybody can be creative with Legos.  It takes a real man to make it happen with Duplos... and they're a lot cheaper!

I spent a couple days painting droids, lots of droids.  Most of them are from Wizards of the Coast (R4s, R5s, protocol droid, med droid, power droids…)  A few are from Disney Parks Star Wars Collection Packs.  All of the BB8s are from the Disney collection packs, and all but one of the R2s and CP30s are Disney. Since most of the droids will be used in and around the town I based only a couple on “metal” floors to make them more appropriate for use in ships… I will be building a ship interior as one the later projects in this collection.

Lots of fun stuff here. I need to find some of those BB-8s, as well as the R4s and R5s. You just can't have enough droids.

I was very surprised by the large number of different droids in the WotC Star War collections, and most of the ones I wanted were $2.50 or less.  I think I got my R4s and R5s for $1.50 each at Troll and Toad.

There are a few female variants of the basic 3P0 look out there that you might want to look into. I'm pretty sure that both Reaper and Bombshell each have one.

You might also consider modifying a 3P0 into C-3PX...

SotF, I haven't seen the Bombshell figures, but I did check out the ones that Reaper has, and Jeeves/Clockwork Robot is part of my collection... just forgot to include him/it in the pictures.  There are a number of the ones that Reaper offers that are interesting: Automations, ALF24/Robot Assistant, and Marie/She-Bot, but WotC spoiled me in terms of price and look, so I loaded up on those.

With Bombshell, it's M4R1A though there are several others that fit the Star Wars theme...a few of which might need a bit of modification by way of cut the blade of a sword off and use a either a bit of wire or acryllic rod for a lightsaber since they have at least one not-Jedi and another based on Slave Leia's costume...

As I’m sure I have said before, this project is a little unique in that with most of my project the great majority of the figures used were purchased years before the actual painting began.  In this case, while I have been putting the pieces together for about eight years, I have found most of the figures that will be included only since I began the actual work on the project.  The Moonraker Miniatures’ Spacelords is one of those recent finds.  The figures pictured here are from their Personalities line.  They were a pleasure to paint and work really well with the Astropolis and Colony 87 figures I have recently added to this collection.

vodkafan, I'm glad I could ID the figure you have.  Since I always hope that people who post figure pictures will ID the figures, I do my best to provide figure identification when I post... probably fail from time to time, but I try.  Richard

While the Beyond the Gates of Antares figure line is of no direct interest to me in terms of my Space project, the Boromite Matriach was something I couldn’t resist.

For a couple days I’ve been painting Colony 87 figures.  They are absolutely wonderful.  The six pictured here represent one of the two figure packs.  I should say that I searched the internet for pictures of painted Colony 87 figures.  I didn’t find a lot of them, but I did borrow color scheme ideas from a number of the figures I found.  LAF’s Alex Bews’ figures were a great inspiration.  The original line draws were a great help too.
