I sooooo agree.  What would they have to lose?  Why wouldn't they tap into that market?  I'm befuddled by it.  It would be so simple to do for them.

The market for people that want to pain them is much smaller than those for pre-paints.  That said they are now expanding their D&D unpainted line.  Maybe they will try the supers next.

These strip pretty easily, I use aceton and a ultrasonic cleaner. A 3 minute cycle removes most of the paint without affecting the plastic.

Neat, can you provide some more information on your technique, like the ultrasonic cleaner you use, if you use a brush, etc. ?

I tried acetone once or twice with mixed results, using a dip and toothbrush technique. I never was able to get them cleaned to the point I'd have been totally happy. I recall ruining a few as well, they got too soft and started abrading.

I put a small glass jar in the US water bath (a youghurt jar) that I fill with aceton and dump the clix in them for a cycle (without the dial bases). I wouldn't recommend putting the aceton direct into the bath itself.

Afterwards I use a toothbrush to scrub them a bit. I rinse them in water and usually go for a second cycle in fresh aceton. The first pass takes of most of the paint but dirties the aceton very quickly. FYI I let the dirty aceton settle and reuse the top fraction.

I do have the impression that the figures soften slightly, but the stiffen up again (probably when the aceton that has permeated the plastic evaporates). I have "ruined" one figure where the plastic started peeling of in layers (Siryn) - but that was when I was using a tootbrush and manual scrubbing.

I'll try to snap some pictures next time, so you have an idea of what to expect before you decide to buy a cleaner. I still use it for cleaning my glasses and my airbrush, I didn't buy it especially for stripping Clix.

Ah awesome idea. I wondered about that as I have a sonic cleaner but didn't want to put acetone into it.

I do have the impression that the figures soften slightly, but the stiffen up again (probably when the aceton that has permeated the plastic evaporates). Yeah they soften due to the acetone and harden back up once the acetone evaporates (which is generally quite fast). I don't think there's much to be done about the odd peeling unfortunately. I think it's something to with how some clix are glued together rather than any rough treatment on our end, I notice it more with figures that have glued on capes or more detailed textures. I've lost a Magneto to it (just re-purposed as a statue, luckily I have like 4 copies) and had to repair Scarlet Witch and resculpt parts of Groot.
