The abduction of Princess Meg
« on: December 20, 2022, 02:59:12 AM »
A few weeks ago we put on another game of Pikemen's Lament at our local game store and in honor of our favorite former duchess named it The abduction of Princess Meg(han Markle).  The scenario was that a west european princess was being escorted to Moscow where she was to be married to the Russian heir apparent.  However, the Cossacks and Turks had gotten wind of the impending nuptials and decided to spoil the wedding.  The game began with a clash between the Cossacks and Turks which ended badly for the Turks after some initial success.  In the meantime both the Turks and Cossacks began attacking the convoy (although from different directions) and after suffering a couple of reverses finally managed to overwhelm the guard force.  At this point   Meg panicked and charged her wagon right into a nearby unit of Cossacks  and actually killed a cavalry figure.  While the Cossacks were in disarray the Turks swooped in and captured three passengers (but unfortunately not the princess) from the carriage and made off with them.  The Cossacks then arrived captured Meg and her attendants - and secured the victory.  Of course, in reality the Russian heir apparent probably won.

So no interview by the Turkish court astrologer Oprah bint Wenefra?   Darn.   I was so looking forward to reading that particular work.

Great looking game and well-painted minis.   Always a big plus.

Oprah bint Wenefra was drawn and quartered due to her inaccurate predictions and lousy guest stars.  The sultan hired Miss Cleo to take her place.

Cleo was the more powerful seeress anyway, managing a college of seers with a continent-wide reach, all in instant psychic communication with each other.   Despite the lack of mundane international or even regional communication during this period in history, Nostradamus knew and wrote a quartrain or two about it.   It's right there clear as day if you read hard enough.

Did Leonarda da Vinci make a sub-rosa appearance with one of his vehicular contraptions being the source of the tread tracks in the road?!  lol

Yes, looks like fun.

Yes, it was one of Leonardo's contraptions - it's not like I would use WW2 roads for a medieval game!

Fine game with a very nice collection of miniatures of a wargaming front we don't often see.

The Russians were painted by John Burgess, The Scots were painted by Chuck Sharp and most of the Cossacks were painted by Mike McGraw (aka Skrapwelder).  Some of the Cossacks were painted by Steve Lawrence.
