Rules suitable for Metro 2033?
« on: February 01, 2017, 11:45:03 AM »
Hey everyone.

Been eyeing up the rather impressive looking Lead Adventure Post-Apocalyptic range and inspired by the flipping awesome (and dark) world of Metro 2033 I'm interested in getting together some forces to begin combing through the Metro.

I've been keeping a weather eye on the recommended rules list and I can't seem to find a ruleset that would conform much to what I envision the Metro to be (a very down to earth apocalypse, AKs and homemade weapons ruling the day with some beasties and the odd bit of weirdness to go with it). The choices I have are either zombies (wholly unsuitable) or Fallout-esque rules (too high tech for the apocalypse).

Any suggestions?

Ideally it would be possible to play as a multiplayer game too.

Two Hour Wargames publishes "After the Horsemen" - which they describe as "strictly a human centric PA game. No zombies, no aliens, no mutants, etc., just humans versus humans" and a "further-future All Things Zombie with rougher tech and harder men."

Across the Dead Earth is a top pick.

I was also going to suggest Across the Dead Earth.

Black ops?

With the Hazards rules and creature rules, This is Not a Test is perfect for Metro.

Thanks everyone.

I've gone ahead and bought the pdf for Across the Dead Earth. Black Ops and This is not a test were close seconds, although I may still be tempted by Black Ops.

Thanks everyone.

Now... how to source 28mm Metro tunnels..

I think Pulp Alley could work quite well, or Strange Aeons.

Iv.An - do you have any photos of that? I am very tempted all of a sudden...

I have left one item in the workshop. On Monday, I will take a picture and show. Let me look in my archives, should be the 3D model of the underground bunker based on these elements.

We (Dead Earth Games, makers of ATDE) have a long term plans of creating a game set in the London Underground using the core ATDE rules but a bit more boardgame/RPG oriented. It'd be perfect for METRO. But unfortunately it is still very much in the "long term" planning.

On a side note, have you read the Metro 2033 book? If not then you really need to as it is leagues better then the games (which I also liked) and will really inspire you.

You can use some old Space Hulk floor tiles as a 2D low budget version of underground tunnels.
