A newbie in Frostgrave
« on: March 06, 2017, 12:18:49 PM »
Hi everyone!

I’ve been lurking around here for quite some time and have decided that it’s now time to post something myself. Now, I’m totally new to this whole wargaming miniature thing, having only played boardgames before. I mean, I painted miniatures before, but I’ve never painted (let alone built) scenery before.

So, I’ve been at creating my Frostgrave table since about Christmas. I’m not yet done – there’s still no snow, and the models need some layers of paint – but I thought it was time to play a first game with my 9yo son.

We didn’t play a „real“ game; I game-mastered for him, controlling the monsters (I spawned a skeleton after each turn and moved them for him) and explaining the rules as we went. So just a tutorial really. He grasped the concepts pretty quickly, which kind of surprised me since he had also never played a game without proper spaces before.

Here are some pictures of my table.

My son’s Elementalist, Maginos, confers with his trusty thug, Collin. Original naming, I know …  ::)
The mausoleum in the back is the only building that I scratch-built – so far. I’ll take a better picture soon.

Two half-painted skeletons peeking through a rusty fence.

A thief, grabbing a treasure chest. The building is, of course, a Pegasus Hobby city set which I’ve destroyed quite a bit. I made the floor from balsa wood (and am quite happy how it turned out).

Same scene, from far away. The ruin to the right is from a sprue from Renedra. Note part of my boardgame collection in the back.

The board is just a thick MDF board on which I used filler to texture it. I then painted gray and blue areas and heavily drybrushed it with white to get a snowy effect, which is okayish if you don’t look too closely. It looks (a little bit) better in person.
The statue is removable (miniature by Mantic). I've made six pedestals from styrofoam. Trees and walls from GW.

Wow, great set up!  Your figures are beautifully painted, and I think the scenery is coming along just fine!  I love the low angle of the photos too; it really give the photos a sense of realism!

Thanks for your kind words guys!

Some more pictures:

My mausoleum. The base needs to be done, and, of course, the snow is missing.

It's got quite a big hole in the back …

… and the roof is detachable so that you can use the inside as well. Pretty happy with how that turned out.

Finally, a picture from directly above.

And a group picture of my son's warband. The dog is missing somehow …
Still need to highlight and weather them, and the bases are not done either. And there's lots of detailing to be done.

(Is there a way to scale the pictures so that they're not that huge?)

When you put a image, it has a width and height that can be modified.

For example, your image with the thief on the OP post, with width 750 and height 600
