Problem adding pictures using Dropbox?
« on: February 08, 2017, 02:45:14 AM »
I've finally produced some miniatures that I feel are worthy of sharing on the forum, but I've got a problem...

... It appears that LAF isn't accepting my link to a dropbox hosted image.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/gnk9nbirgbfn39x/DSC_0064Crop.JPG?dl=0

I've started a thread in the Future Wars section of the forum, pasted the dropbox link (above), highlighted it on the LAF page, then clicked the add link button in the LAF message posting menu (following the instructions in the FAQ). It appears that there's a problem somewhere though.

I get the broken link image (see example below).

Not sure what the issue is. When I view the link on my phone (not connected/logged in to my Dropbox account) I can see the image properly using the dropbox link, but again I just see the broken link image when I come to the LAF website.

The image is a JPG and around 1.2 MB in size.

it's my first time posting images, so can someone please troubleshoot this for me?

Cheers,
Andy

Thanks for the swift response. I'm really not sure what's happening now. Your suggestion seemed to work initially (and I saw the image clearly and correctly immediately after you'd posted it). Now however, it appears to not be working again (and I depending on which device I'm viewing your post, it just shows a blue square with a question mark, rather than my photograph).

I'm wondering if somehow the link I provided only displays if someone is currently logged into their own Dropbox account, or something?

Anyway, I'll look into alternative image hosting options and see if I can get better luck with those...

Thanks once again for your help though!

Andy

Just tried Flickr and had the same problem. Will work on it again later in the week...

Needs to have:

at the front. I don't think you can link to dropbox images in forums, at least I've never been able to. I may have missed it if you mentioned it... but you can put images here in the LAF gallery too.

Not sure what Flickr does, but it doesn't show you the URL of the actual pic when you right click, rather the properties of the page that shows you the pic. you also can't save the image by right clicking and the URL doesn't contain a .jpg anywhere. You need the actual URL of the pic, that should have .jpg  (or similar) in the adress, and if yo go there allows you to save the pic by right clicking.

Try photobucket or imgur instead, they even provide you the code to post it in forums

I spent some time wrestling with the BB code from Flickr (my first encounter with HTML code) and seem to have everything sorted out now. Thanks for your support and advice everyone!

Cheers,
Andy
