A start in 20mm - Stuart M5A1
« on: February 12, 2017, 01:37:00 PM »
Hi,

the scale discussion is going pretty strong at the moment...so this is my first step into 20mm WWII gaming after 13 years in 28mm. Recently I became more and more fed-up with the completely bizarre proportions and faces many of the WW2 stuff in 28mm is sporting nowadays. After having painted Us Infantry and Germans for the Ardennes I wanted a new project for the WWII but the minis in 28mm, as well as the perspective of building 28mm scale buildings put me off. As fate has it, I was able to play Victory Decision at a small german Con in January. The game was set in 20mm scale. I tried the rules which were superb, but the amazing table created by the very talented german Hobbyist 'Rusus' convinced me that beautiful gaming was possible in 20mm (before I always thought that these minis were ugly because I compared them to 28mms).

Now I bought some AB Figures, Blitz miniatures, Foundry 20mm as well as PSC tanks (stuart and Stugs for the beginning).

This weekend was the official test, never having painted a tank before. Assembly was straight forward, the PSC kits are really great.

So here's the result:

I really liked painting this smaller scale model as the scale allows for many details but the whole thing paints up way quicker due to smaller surfaces.

I will in the future venture more into 20mm scale with a Hurtgen-Forest/November 1944 project coming up.

Personally I think I will also go back to 28mm, as these miniatures offer more 'playground' from a painters perspective.
Cheers!

Thanks! In the box were two other models...I would really love a Stuart "recce" even though I don't have a British force (yet)!
