Hi, Just for the record (and posterity I suppose) here are some pictures of some 28mm sky galleons of Mars my friend Ian and me made some time ago in 1990.
Sky Galleons of Mars came out in 1989 I think and I was smitten as soon as I bought it, madness soon ensued and some rather silly ideas (on reflection) took hold in the desire to play sky galleon of mars in a hall with big ships and 28 (nay, 25mm back then) figures.
These pictures were taken on a sunny day in 1990 in my back yard.  All of the ships slid up and down wooden poles with pegs under through holes for different heights.  the big kite was a slightly different verson of a 'skylord' which I called a 'skywarrior'.  it was about 4 foot long and, yes, the sails did come from old kitchen curtains !    the two smaller sky runners and the big one were carved somewhat roughly from foam cavity wall insulation, built up in layers. The european gunboats were two german Komets and a French Harpon, all made by my good friend Ian from cardboard.
 We had a number of games with them in our club hall and once put them on as a demo game at a Newcastle show at the guildhall on the riverside, though we werent allowed a lot of space, but it was fun.
  The Martian ships were scrapped last year after a respectable 24 year career, most of which was spent laid up 'in ordinary' (like a lot of oversize warships) but the Harpon and one Komet still hang from the ceiling covered in dust.  One Komet was converted into a large tank and had a bizarre later career, which I may tell of one day..

Thanks, here is another VSF creation of mine from a while ago, a kit this time by a company called Albatross.   It is (coincidentally) 'the Albatross' from the Jules Verne novels 'Clipper of the clouds' and 'Robur the conqueror'.  The last picture shows the (Ace editions) book cover with the clipper itself!
Its about 20mm figure scale (1/76-ish) by my reckoning and I added the victorian gent (Robur?) stood on the bow from a range of 1/76 railway figures.
Anyway, its mostly made from paper, with wooden masts and all the helicopter blades freewheel in the wind.    A nice kit I thought, not sure if its still available but took a few weeks to make and was maybe a tenner about 15 years ago. 
The 5th picture shows the rather obscured view forward from the wheelhouse, and the 6th picture with my hand to show just how big it is.

A nicely ornate helicopter, well done.

Also, Doug, the big martian ships were too big to post, so in the bin they went, did salvage a few parts from them.

...and coincidentally, the last of the pictured 1889 flyers above is now currently on ebay (the blue harpon) so that's the end of them, after 25 years of mostly inactivity and dust gathering.

Small scale sky galleons is better for my storage issues..
