Terrain Lots of it
« on: February 18, 2017, 07:02:30 PM »
Hello again all,
Here are some of my terrain projects.Been building terrain for years.
Imho I feel that good terrain is as important as a good painted mini.
I believe in making versatile terrain which can be used in different scales & eras.

Wow!  Lots of terrain!   :)

Really like the last pic - how did you make that?

Your scenery are fantastic and really well done. I really like the muted colours and the other worldly strangeness the pieces envokes.

Thanks all for the kind words. Glad you like them.

Harwood, I assume you mean the Candy Floss trees.

Ok here goes
You need barbecue bamboo sticks, a small palette knife or a suitable thin spreading knife , expanding foam , a piece of thick wood or foam with loads of 3-4mm holes drilled around 25mm apart & most important of all ,speed i.e. you have to be quick as the foam starts to expand immediately.

Pick up a stick, squirt a small bead of foam on a piece of card or thin mdf ( you can use this for bases etc afterward so no waste )with the palette knife swipe some foam thinly on the stick ( no need to be uniform as the foam spreads in all directions ). Foam starts to stick & elongate in thin threads but this is a good thing as it adds detail.

Place stick upright in the holed wood. Repeat. Do not let the sticks touch.Stop every so often to scrape the cured foam from the knife's blade.

They will harden light yellow indoors or dark yellow in the sun.Wash or paint etc.

This should help but email me if something is not clear.
Much more stuff on my blog
Enjoy

I love the columns in the second photo. Are those made from TP rolls by any chance? I feel I need to make some of those.
I should say it all looks amazing, but that second photo really got me thinking.

Thanks you
TP rolls ?, you mean toilet paper rolls.
No , most of them are hand sculpted plaster of Paris & then cast in resin.

Gosh, your stuff is really fantastic. I love seeing really alien terrain - I'm definitely knicking the expanding foam idea. Great stuff.
