Maxx's pirate ship! Arrr! (now with pirates!)
« on: March 01, 2017, 03:54:06 PM »
Hi everybody!
Since one of my game buddies is going to run a Legend of the High Seas campaing, here are my efforts to provide myself a ship and a crew... a pirates crew, of course! (Everything is better with pirates!!  :D)

First: the ship.
A few years ago I kickstarted a laser dream works project, and now it's time to build the ship I got  :)  It is one of the small ship, the USS LEE.
I have to say it's the first multi-layer lasercut set I build, but it came together pretty easy, and it's a really good model. The only thing I didn't like too much was the "stair" effect on the rear sides, due to the different layers, but some sandpaper fixed it all  ;)

Soon: rigging and sails  ;D

That is a cool ship, and you've done a great job with it.   I can't wait to see your crew1

I sanded mine down too:

I also soaked the rear railings to soften them up a bit and give them a bit of a curve to better conform to the hull:

I have a few of their ships, great company, great products!

Thank you, Cpt Jake!  :)
I slightly curved the rear railings too, so they fit better  ;)

In the meantime I started rigging and sails...

As you can see, I'm going to steal some detailing techniques from the "real" ship modelling  ;)
I bought deadeyes and rigging ropes from a local model shop and, with some youtube tutorials, I started to build my shrouds  o_o
Anchor was also added, as well as some few small details...
Finally, the first sail attempt. It's made with tissue from an old t-shirt, cut and soaked with tea, to add an old look. I'm pretty happy with the result  :-*

I'll try to keep a balance between palyability and aesthetics... we'll see what happen  :D

Thank you, guys!
I'm really enjoying this ship model  :D

I added a few sails....

And I also painted the first member of the crew: captain Thadeus William Hill  :D (resin model form Black Scorpion).
As you can see, I went for a clear acrilic round base (from Fenris Models). It's the first time I use clear bases, but for this setting I think it's a good choice, since the  model will look ok both on the ship deck and on the ground, at the port :)

Arrr! ...And a bottle of rum!

So the ship is finished!
I'm pretty satisfied with rigging and sails :D, simple but effective.
Also, someone can spot a little litterature quote?  ;) lol
Next step: the crew! See you soon!
