Sudan 1881, Gunboat #77 to the rescue!

GUNBOAT #77 TO THE RESCUE!

The Battle of Aba Island
Sudan, Aba Island 1881, the first clash of arms between the expected one, the self proclaimed Mahdi, and the Egyptian Khedive. This is the backdrop for my con game scenario which I ran at an HMGS-South convention called Hurricon in Orlando Florida in September of 2016.

www.hmgs-south.com

Scenario outline:
Hunt for the Mahdi, Aba Island, 12 August 1881:
An expedition is being formed for the capture of a very dangerous fugitive who is calling himself the prophet, the expected one, the Mahdi. He has already refused to come to Khartoum as directed and has declared a holy war against the Khedive of the Egyptian govt. Two companies of troops will be sent to Aba Island by steamer to hunt down and capture or kill this criminal. Whichever officer captures this criminal, promotion is theirs! The other officer will face a fate worse than death, a small command in the outer reaches and wastes of the southern Soudan!

As the Ansar horde charges home to decimate the Egyptian landing forces, Gunboat #77 steams to the rescue spitting lead as fast as she can!

Check out my blog for an AAR with photos.

What a great looking game, Jeff!!!!!

I love the whole "Island" lay-out.  Seems like it would work perfectly for lots of other game periods and genres like Pirates, Ancient Greeks,  Pulp, or USMC vs. IJA to name just a few.  Really wish I could be at RECON in order to play in this one!  As it is I will look forward to the AAR, which I'm confident you'll post when the time comes!

I was looking for a scenario so I can use gunboats and suitable Colonial forces, and this is inspiring. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for the kind comments! This game was big fun to run and to build! We did a whole weekend of Sudan games for that HMGS-South con in Orlando. We had a different TSATF colonial game with various scenarios on the same set of tables the whole con. We just changed terrain boards or terrain mats and set up then ran the different games. We will be doing the same thing twice this year.
Cheers,
JB
