Late WW2 Americans (Updated: Fourth figure added Pg3)
« on: March 04, 2017, 05:21:16 PM »
Spent the afternoon sorting out the colours for these. The M43 is to me, like the US webbing colours, quite elusive and it took two tries to get something I'm happy with. Think it's there now so will crack on with plenty more. One of the new Empress figs. Paul did a lovely job with the faces on these.

Crappy phone pics for now I'm afraid.

Painted as 41st Armoured Infantry.

Eyebrows!!!  :o :o

That Keith, is a miniature masterpiece  8)

I must admit, although I'm a big fan of Mr Hicks' work as a rule, I thought these looked a little ordinary when I saw them in the Empress thread the other day. But under paint, how wrong I was! What a cracker  :-*

I'm no expert, but the colours look right to me. The slightly bluey-green of the uniform, set off beautifully by the pale olive drab of the webbing and kit. Lush.

Stunning paint Job :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Not sure about the colour scheme, it looks a bit more Vietnam to me.
I though WWII was more Kaki

Thanks guys :-)

The US switched over to OD7 during 1944, which was a darkish green shade (although it could change depending on weathering and the material it was applied to). The original Khaki was the lighter OD3, which was the standard colour for jackets and US produced trousers up to that point. It's all a bit 'trainspottery' but I'm aiming to do a late war armoured infantry unit, mostly in M43 uniforms (with the odd pair of UK manufactured chocolate brown trousers hanging about as seems common from the footage I've looked at).

Normandy US would look khaki - khaki brown, by September/October this OD7 would be coming through. By 1945 the webbing goes the same colour although this was a really piecemeal rollout and a real bugger to show on figures.

Really starting to evoke the green army man image of the US army.
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

OD field jacket and trousers are spot on.  Boots have black rubber soles.  Shovel handle color is more like helmet color

Might want to share this with the folks at Empress once you get a few more painted up.

Very useful, thanks. Figured I'd leave the boot soles until basing and see how much is visible at that point. Shovel handle will get a repaint. I suspect my reference here was a post-war repaint. It was a real niggle getting good colour images of this.

That is really good and a great advertisement for the figures.
