28mm LRDG - Perry or Warlord?
« on: March 07, 2017, 01:23:47 PM »
Hi folks,

so I've been thinking about doing a small LRDG project (a patrol for skirmish gaming, with desert car (or truck) chases for the pulp factor). For the dismounted fellows, I've pretty much settled on Artizan, but I'm a bit at a loss for vehicles, or rather, undecided.

I've seen Warlord do the Chevrolet truck, whereas Perry have various Fords. I like the look of either, and am not too bothered about using either in a period where historically there would have been none. It's supposed to be a "boys' adventure" take, but I'd be grateful for pointers as to if any of the two is preferable for manufacturing quality, or if there is a jarring difference in style that would make either unworkable with the Artizan footsloggers.

Cheers!

both will be on the small size with Artizan minis ...
IMO, both masters are nice ones, but sometimes the Warlord resin models are not top ( wrapped models, molds in poor condition ) .
but both are nice models, and mix quite well .
Dans les situations critiques, quand on parle avec un calibre bien en pogne, personne ne conteste plus. Y'a des statistiques là-dessus.

Perry!

All the Warlord minis I received so far were not as good as the Perry ones.
cheers and keep on gaming, Agis - http://www.adpublishing.de

Can't really help but Offensive Miniatures also makes these vehicles.

Is it Company B that now has Crouchie's Chieftain ones?

Mike Owen did the crew for them so they obviously fit well with Artizan.

Edit: Yes, it is....http://www.companyb.biz/

I agree that the perrys plastics are small. I did some up as SAS and LRDG for a friend and I don't think they mix well

The more recent Perry resin vehicles, which would include the LRDG trucks, are very nicely made and cast indeed. I have the Steyr 1500, and it's probably the nicest and best cast of the several resin WW2 vehicles I have acquired and painted over the last couple of months. Although given they are designed to work with the 'true 1/56 scale' (titchy) Perry WW2 figures, I can't help thinking the 'large 28s' of Artizan might look a little outsized in relation to the vehicles.

I agree with UVS - the Rubicon kits will be in a different league in terms of detail and options, but Rubicon have a very disciplined release schedule, and don't seem to be in any hurry to get the many, many goodies at various stages in their design, prototyping and production process out there onto the market. So you could be waiting a long time.

Another possibility is the forthcoming 1/50 scale vehicles from Empress.
