Having only owned the game since its publication and also having only played a couple of tester games, we decided to get a proper campaign going. Here's the first instalment - The Mausoleum ...
The two warbands have entered the city for the first time. One, a hardy band of thugs and soldiers led by a bolt wielding Elementalist, the other a skulking gaggle of ratmen, with their hired human treasure hunter, led by their Necromancer.
The two warbands carefully work through the outer areas of the cemetery and see the complete, but slightly overgrown mausoleum in the centre of the burial ground. Lurking on the outskirts are its skeletal guardians, who start to move in on the intruders.
The Elementalist's warband enter the board on the right, with the Necromancer's warband opposite.
The first combat between the warhound supported by the tracker and a skeleton guardian.
The apprentice Necromancer leads his group into the cemetery, before sending his zombie off to attack the Elementalist's thief.
Just as the thief moves up to the treasure, a skeletal hand burst from the ground and holds him fast preventing him from moving.
More skeletons leave the mausoleum and head towards the Elementalist's group.
The tracker, warhound and ranger start to pursue the treasure bearing rattan thug as he desperately tries to escape the board, eventually succumbing to an elemental bolt. Luckily enough the apprentice Necromancer managed to decay the tracker bow before escaping the board.
We thoroughly enjoyed this first proper foray into the "not so" frozen city. Plenty of coin, scrolls and grimoires discovered as well as success in getting of a variety of spells cast. I particularly enjoyed the delays caused by casting "bones of the earth" on the thief, which seemed to cause him a bit of a problem.
Most of the miniatures are old Citadels from way back when with a few modern additions; scenery from most of the usual sources, including MDF ruins from Blotz. The mausoleum was a quick foam core build as I didn't have a suitable building.
We will be returning to the city ...
