The Walking Dead (March 15: Barn)
« on: March 18, 2017, 06:55:18 PM »
Yes, another The Walking Dead thread! After seeing horridperson's thread I decided to order the game and was sold instantly. Great little game, with excellent PVC miniatures, nice rules and good materials. Big fan. So time to slap some paint on them! Started off with the main protagonists: Rick and Carl. The sculpts are perfect: not too much detail, great curves and edges and painting went fast. Think I completed these in about 4 hours. Nex up will be Sandra and some walkers.

Fantastic job!  Another Walking Dead thread is always welcomed.

Carl looks like a little bad ass.

I'll gladly follow along Mal!

Great brushwork, CONGRATULATIONS!  :-*

I am also a strong advocate of clear bases!  ;)

And yes, that's a great little game! Looking forward to see how this thread develops!  :D

They look very good.

How easy were they to get off their original bases?

Cheers lads!
Super easy to remove them from the bases. I used a new blade and just the feet from the base. Easy job.

The leather effect on Rick's jacket is perfect. Did you give it a dark brown wash over a mid brown colour and then highlight with little flicks?

Those look fantastic!  Rick and his little brat look ace.  You did an excellent job on Carl's face.  Somehow you managed a middle schooler tough guy look that really works.  Now paint some more :) ;  I need vicarious mojo because my Shane model is being a douche and doesn't want to stand up straight no matter how many times I have given him hot water baths  lol .

@Cubs: Yeah, that about covers it. But to tone it down and blend it a bit more I finish with some washes:

1. Basecoat with Vallejo Beasty Brown
2. Wash several times with Army Painter Strong Tone, Dark Tone and P3 Brown Ink (the ink is my important tone for the coat). Aim for a dark brown coat.
3. Apply highlights with Beasty Brown.
4. Add the wear&tear with Foundry Canvas B and some with Foundry Boneyard B. This will give a badly highlighted coat.
5.tone it down and blend it adding several washes of Soft Tone, Strong Tone and P3 Brown Ink.

With the Brown Ink, thin it down well. The colour of P3 Brown Ink is perfect, it is a bit reddish.

But going by your painting style and quality this should be peanuts for you :)

@horridperson: thanks! I'm happy with Carl's face. Although tge cast is a bit plain, he was easy to paint.

And here's Sandra and two walkers finished!

Sandra

Very nice sculpt. The pose is good, hardly any detail...it's spot on I'd say. Painting her went really fast. Chose to do lots of drybrushes with washes and spot highlighting to get a rough and worn look on her. Decided to make her hispanic as Mantic's white skin doesn't fit the sculpt very well IMO. Think this works better.

Walkers

Also fast paintjobs and also a lot of fun. Experimented with the zombie skin and I'm happy with how it looks. Not too dirty, dark or weird, but dead enough for me and I can finish it quickly.

So one evening of painting...three miniatures done. What a great line of miniatures! They are a lot of fun to do, have loads of character and paint up very fast. Recommended!

Looking good!  I agree with Andym on the denim and I'm digging the skin on those walkers too  :o.
