Picture of WG/Italeri's new 1/56 Tiger II (from GAMA)

Came across a pic of WGs new plastic Tiger II, looks decent (though not wild about the Zim).
Nice to have the subject in plastic (seems to be the season, with the number of new 1/35 versions that have recently dropped) & I think it'll make a nice painting project.
(They've got some plastic British paras too.)

Nice but I think the zimmerit looks a little too straight and well done.

Nice lifting rings on the turret.

They should have used sharper scalpel or cutters.

I'm not keen on the Zim (I agree it's a bit too neat & regular), but once you've gouged some chunks out & chipped it from some of the edges it'll probably look ok (the cupola mg mount however...).

Plastic British paras...any photos???????????????

As for the King Tiger, yes, the zim looks way too uniform and not like the real thing at all. Oh well....

ARKOUDAKI - there is a pic of the plastic para sprue on the WG forum;

(Unfortunately for some reason my image s/ware doesn't seem to like it so I can't reproduce it here)

So that is four Sten guns plus one loose (is someone holding the mag?).
One Bren.
One PIAT firing (hooray, instructions to build the existing ones would be nice).
Two rifles firing, one on strap, one scope carried and one held crosswise.

A pistol hand and a loose bugle.

Will they make Salute or will they lose out like last year with the Sherman V?

(Edit - damned autocorrect again...)

It looks like they’ve used the same pattern for the zimmerit as they did on their Panther (i.e. Toss, but a nice addition for the average modeler who isn't so picky). Overall its an acceptable looking kit, and well I can’t really complain too much as it’s the only one on the market, but still, it looks a bit meh.

I assume that the underside will still have next to no detail along with the roadwheels interiors? :P

I just don’t get how Rubicon’s kits are miles better. Wait, no, Warlord’s are presumably still hand made, whilst Rubicon’s 3D printing everything. In that case I’ll hope Rubicon release one at some point (hopefully with one of their addon kits for E-50 style roadwheels and turret…).

UVS - I hope the Paras will be ready for Salute (it'd make sense for WG) but I've seen nothing to suggest they will be (or rather WG have been silent on the matter to date - still, there's a few weeks yet).

Wymalla - I don't care for the Zim either, the pattern is actually quite good, but it's obviously too neat & regular for a hand applied goop - distressing it would improve it immensely, (if you wished to keep it, othewise it's out with the Dremel) & not be too arduous. The mounting for the cupola mg is still rubbish though (a small thing I know, but due to its position, fairly prominant) - rubicon do an accurate version & it doesn't seem any less robust for gaming puposes.
I would hope that they don't do the hollow wheel thing (like their 234/2), but they didn't do that with their Tiger I so I wouldn't have thought so.
All in all I think it looks a decent kit & I imagine I'll pick one up for the fun of painting it, perhaps weather it to look like an old warhorse that's soldiered on post 45.

It isn't too bad.   If the price is decent I can scuff up the zim like I did on my Tigger 1.  Should be acceptable for a gaming piece.   If released as an Italieri kit as well as a Warlord kit you should be able to grab it cheaply at an online model shop (I think I got the Tigger 1 for about $15 bucks).

If it's anything like their earlier kits it will be badly engineered. Don't get me wrong, the Italeri kits build into reasonable models but  they are fiddly and really someone needs to talk to their design team. They are neither fish nor fowl. Unnecessarily fiddly bits for wargamers (tracks, fittings ec), absence of detail for modellers (hollow rear of running gear etc). Somehow Rubicon do a much, much better job at design, the things virtually fall together and they are generally better detailed than Italeri.

Fortunately, I have no use for a big kitty. The Para sprues look like another good source of spares.
