LOOKING FOR: Bird headed aliens types
« on: May 01, 2017, 12:05:59 AM »
So, I have this fellow from the Colony 87 set, that really REALLY reminds me of Baron Greenback, and I want to paint him as such, but I can't find any bird-headed aliens that match the look to use as his minions, especially not any crow-ish ones.  Anyone have any ideas?

(not my paint job, people, just to be clear)

I'd go with converting some kenku or tengu models to a more scifi look, or maybe headswapping same to scifi bodies.  There are a fair number of the crow/raven-headed types out there from various manufacturers.

CP Models do a line of Avians:

Any good?

Hmm.  I might be able to make one work if I cut the head off, and used just that minus the neck...

Maybe this guy could be workable?

It's the Hell Dorado HD3013 The Lost Etruscilla miniature. Supposed to be a demonic officer of sorts, but should be usable as a crow-headed minion.

I'm still planning on getting one myself for my crow/raven themed Warriors of Chaos army, as a sorcerror...
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Those birdies from CP were unknown to me, and, boy, they do kick ass! Thanks for pointing them out.

What is that from, Danger Mouse?  I revise my suggestion, do either head swaps or facial resculpts of some pulp/gangster/1920s henchmen types.  They appear to be dressed in normal clothing with humanoid bodies, only the heads are crow-like.  Not very hard to whip up a beak and some cartoony eyes out of sculpting putty.

As for birdhead figs, go to Reaper's site and type in "tengu" under search functions.  Or look at the Malifaux 10 Thunders range, they've got a tengu three-pack (some of which are pretty weird).  Or type in "28mm tengu" on google and follow image links till you find something you like.  There's a lot of them out there.

They are from Dangermouse - as I referenced in the first post, one of the colony 87 puts me in mind of Greenback, so I need to make a Stiletto, thus the trying to find a crow-headed alien that is sci-fi, yet will satisfy the insane yearning I have to make a sci-fi crew of villains from DM.

You aren't wrong in the idea of just modeling them on existing humanoids, though I just had a flash of just painting an RT era Beakie Marine to look like Stilletto...

You probably need to replace the left tentacle, but…

The old Wargods fantasy range had a Vulture race, heads separate. You can check on 'Black Pyramid Gaming' for an (admitted limited) source of these. They were originally (and still are) done by Crocodile Games in the USA.
