I Made a Battle Group for Warpath Firefight
« on: March 28, 2017, 09:05:00 AM »
I played a game of Firefight a couple of weeks ago and I enjoyed it. So I decided to make up a battlegroup. I had no idea what to make but fate put a bunch of cheap Necrons in my hands so I started from there. I decided that they would form the core of an Astarian army.

I modified them a bit in an attempt to reduce the Necron silhouette nd added a bunch of drones from various sources (mainly from Gate of Antares).

Anyway, I'm now the proud owner of a little 1250pt Astarian battle group.

A few more pics and more detail on the build at my blog at: http://this28mmlife.blogspot.com.au/2017/03/asterians-for-firefight.html

Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

Excellent work!

You've done a great job repurposing them, they have a bit of a Tau vibe to them now - don't know if that's intentional or part of the Warpath fluff (never read it).

@ Menibonean:

They look brilliant; really good work in giving the old Necrons a new look and a striking paint job.

I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed Firefight too - seems hard to get much feedback on either of the WP games at the moment, but from my reading of the rulebooks they looked pretty engaging (and certainly no worse than other comparable games).

I look forward to seeing more, and to hearing your further musings on the game. :)

Although the Asterians are space-elves (complete with pointy ears), in terms of background and military, they are more a combination of Eldar and Tau.

They make use of automated troops and drones, as well as more sophisticated remotely-controlled troops, but it's rare for the Asterians themselves to be on the battlefield in person (normally just the commander, if at all).

However, there's also a subgroup of Asterians who have reverted to a "wilder" and more tribal state, and they do fight in person (and have various of tamed creatures too).

Nice work on the repurposed Necrons and a good looking little army as a whole :)

Very cool, I like what you did with their heads (the single optic) & a striking paintjob.

I really liked that contrast of the Asterians to the 40K Eldar.  Both are numerically disadvantaged compared to humanity, but whereas the Eldar take the basket-weavers and poets of their society, stuff them in mesh armor, hand them a short-range submachine, then throw them on the front lines, the Asterians use humanoid drones controlled from orbit via mindlink.

Makes way more sense.

Just a bit of putty. I did the optic lens with a small tool that I made which is just a length of brass tube but I filed the inner and outer edges of the hole to make it like a tiny cookie cutter.

I had to slice the nose off the original head too.

Excellent work!  Nice subtle work to really change the appearance of the figures.

Very nice work!!

A great look for some re-purposed figures that fit perfectly in the Warpath background  :-*
