6mm Army of Gondor
« on: January 18, 2018, 03:52:16 PM »
Here follows the 6mm army of Gondor at some unspecified point in history near the end of the Third Age of Middle Earth.

Here are shown six units of heavy infantry, six units of skirmishers including Rangers of Ithilien, four units of heavy cavalry, and four commanders.

Materials: 4mm needlepoint mesh aka "granny grating", bling ribbon, and 1/4" screen.

You, sir, are not allowed to attempt a takeover of the solar system until your octopus sobers up.

What are the infantry made from?

Strips of needlepoint mesh 1.75 squares tall, with strips of bling ribbon for shields.

Is the ribbon flimsy?

Why not use 6mm figures

The ribbon is actually surprisingly strong.

As to why not just use 6mm figures - I made this army with $4 worth of materials and I have enough left over to make a second or third.  Also, I wanted to make an army out of granny grating.

That’s pretty impressive, it certainly looks like a massed army in the pictures. The cavalry are surprisingly effective too! Are you going to texture the bases?

Basically, for the price of a single unit of 6mm figures you get 3 armies and then some (the grating dragon on your other thread was great...... will there be Ents?) not bad economically it has to be said!

Makes sense. Could you do a tutorial?

I'd also be interested in one, for curiosity's sake if nothing else!  :)
