I still follow Spacejacker on Instagram, although he hardly ever posts about miniatures.

He has inspired at least half my projects.

I think Ockman’s stuff is pretty cool, especially the color choices and the cool backstory.

Thanks mate!

I still hope that he'll return to 15mm miniatures and terrain. I also follow his instagram and his old blog.

I can't say how many of my projects Spacejacker has inspired, but for the first two years, almost every single thing I bought, painted or built could be traced back to him.

Since Spacejacker hasn't made anything new to steal the latest two years, I've had to start coming up with stuff on my own. ;)

Sorry I don't have Instagram, and sure wish he would start posting on his blog again but it is what it is. In the mean time I have to wait till I have some time to start making my Spacejacker Ockman Tiles.  lol

Get instagram, there's a great hashtag called #15milminis that one can (and should) follow!

Looking forward to see your tiles!

Hello, friends!

I would like some input about my GZG Spider Drones. I've bought one pack, which contained 3 drones and now I can't decide whether I should:

1.) Paint them in a cohesive colour scheme, so I can use them together as guard bots or hunter/killers

2.) Use them to bolster different crews/warbands/units, painting them in different paint schemes (one would bolster the NeoDyne Security squad, another might support my upcoming mercenaries, the third might get a generic paintjob)

I'm leaning towards option 2, but I'm not entirely sure.

Here's a picture of a drone, if you haven't seen them before (this one hasn't been cleaned yet, there's still flash on the guns and some of the legs)

I would paint all three the same.  You can always add one, or two, to a war band.

I think that I would go for all the same as well.....or perhaps buy a set batch of them and do both.  :)
I don\'t know whether to be a good example or a horrible warning.

My main problem with painting them cohesive is two-fold.

1.) Inspiration. I don't know how to paint them. Should they be a faction of their own, support a crew/team/warband/whatever I already have painted (or that I'm thinking about painting) or be so very generic that any crew/team/warband/whatever can use them? Since I'm going to play very small scale games (~5 miniatures/side) adding three armoured drones to a crew/(you know the rest) will have a pretty drastic impact (although I could see an underdog scenario, where the heroes must sneak to avoid an overpowered foe).

2. Inspiration. If they are going to be a crew on their own, I can't really come up with a backstory or rationale. I've already got a team of (humanoid) Hunter/Killer droids, why should I have another? Since I build and paint with an intention (to be able to play an RPG campaign), I try to fit every new thing I add into a possible narrative. To me it's hard to just paint a squad without any kind of idea what they might be further down the road.

If I may make a suggestion, paint them up in the default factory paint job. NeoDyne has them provided. Mercenarys acquired them, raiders stole them. Just my thoughts.

This is an idea that I really like!

Still I would need a paint scheme. I'm thinking about undercoating everything black and drybrush gunmetal/silver or the mechanical parts, perhaps drybrushing the guns in bronze/brass. I'm not sure about the colour on the carapace/lenses. If I go grey/red, they will be really NeoDyne Security, but perhaps also somewhat generic. Perhaps I should take inspiration from Portal's drone turrets, going for white carapace and orange lenses. Perhaps khaki carapace with purple lenses?

They are cheap as chips and in time, you will likely want to add more at any rate so I would keep them coherent.

That said, the ones I bought, were painted in a coherent colour scheme but with slightly different patterns. That made them similar... but different.

I bent the barrels of the weapons to turn them into comms drones... but the idea still stands:

Thanks, all of you!

Now I've got some new ideas and inspiration! I think I will paint all of them in one scheme, a default factory paintjob.

Inso: Those look ace! I really like the commander, where's that mini from?

Colonial Doctor Jorah Goodfellow by Oscar Falk, on Flickr

On the most advanced worlds, death is more or less optional. Nanobot surgery, regenerative treatments and stabilizing stasis chambers all work together to combat aging, diseases and accidents. Only the most horrific accidents or rare equipment failures lead to death, and on some worlds not even that, since the advent of body and consciousness backups.

On most worlds, though, death and disease are still a part of normal life. This is especially true on colony worlds where it's common with heavy and dangerous work, unknown (and often hostile) biospheres, and limited access to auto-docs (and supplies for them).

Colonial Doctors are a special breed; part medical doctors, part scientists, part improvising trouble shooters/biomechanics. Pictured here is Colonial Doctor Jorah Goodfellow, veteran of numerous colonizations, mapper of multiple biospheres and renowned physician. At the moment, he's residing on Golgotha Prime, combining medical work with investigating the disappearance or demise of the first colonists, centuries ago.

Doctor Goodfellow is revered for his work, but also viewed as a bit excentric due to his obsession with the Lazarus Virus T-strain (colloquially known as 'the Zombie Virus'). He's been known to appear on worlds that has suffered T-strain outbreaks, ostensibly to study the virus, although malicious rumours claim that the good doctor has been spotted in-system before the onset of several outbreaks...

It's a converted Grymn. He has the body of this guy:

The head from here:

and lots of green stuff (well... he's only small so probably not that much green stuff :) ).

Nice.

Thanks!

It's a converted Grymn.

Super detailed explanation of how it was converted

Oh, wow ...I won't be doing that conversion. It's an awesome mini, though.
