TNT or Scrappers
« on: April 13, 2017, 01:02:24 PM »
Looking at getting into a post apoc game, and have been looking into both TNT and Scrappers. They seem very similar, both d10 with opposed rolls, humans, mutants, robots, good campaign systems, and plenty of fluff.

I only want to get into one, but am unsure which one.

From those of you that have played one or both, what are your pro's and con's for each? I know it's my call, but would like to know other peoples thoughts.

Well, you should wait few months with this question. Scrappers is a new game so not many people are deeply experienced with it.
Whereas from the economical point of view Scrappers is way cheaper than TNT. If you happen to live in Europe, Scrappers will cost you 23GBP delivered (buying directly at Osprey's, but there are plenty of places where you can get the game cheaper), while TNT will cost you 74USD=60GBP delivered (the game is available only at the publisher, without any discounts possible). So TNT is three times more expensive than Scrappers. Of course, you can always buy digital version of TNT (25USD), but it's not my cup of tea - I need something to flip through and I love the smell of printing ink. :-)

We played TNT (the .pdf version) for many months and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The ranged combat mechanics are interesting. The unit building is fun. The scenarios are well thought out and the campaign system is engaging.

We intend to play again and consider it one of our 'regular games' as opposed to those that we give a try only to discard.

Television is rather a frightening business. But I get all the relaxation I want from my collection of model soldiers. P. Cushing

Shameless plug alert:

There's also Wreck Age, which you can try before you buy:

expanded 2nd edition large format printed rulebook will be out in the next month.

In regards to TNT and scrappers, I haven't read through TNT, but I have checked out Scrappers, and I highly recommend it.

If I may be so bold to throw my two bits in here, I think you can't lose with either ruleset. TNT is great and a different feel than Scrappers.

While the system mechanics vary, the TNT rules strike me as more 'Near Future' Apocalypse, and our Scrappers setting is 'Far Future' Apo.

I own TNT and Joe McGuire owns Scrappers. Nothing says you can't own both!  ;)

I haven't tried Wreck Age, but they have some great looking figures, and so does Worlds End with their TNT range. We don't make figures, so we can't compete there.

I look at it this way by comparing two Sci-Fi RPGs. I love Traveller and also Star Frontiers. Sometimes I'm in the mood for one, and sometimes the other. Glad we live in a day and age where we're spoiled for choice!

Yep, they both do look awesome and that's what was making it hard to decide. I have ordered Scrappers, and have no doubt I will probably get TNT as well.  :)
