Looking for a good smarmy Wehrmacht officer figure
« on: April 19, 2017, 06:55:52 AM »
Out of all the manufacturers out there in 28mm, does anyone do a Wehrmacht officer figure with some real sharp character to it?

Ideally, I'm thinking a real cocksure, smarmy, asshole - probably on the younger side. In terms of pose, perhaps strutting for inspection with both hands behind his back, adjusting a glove, or insouciantly smoking a Juno or an Ekstein. Anything that communicates the attitude, really.

The head doesn't matter, I can make do or convert as needed. It's the body/pose I'm after.

Some of you might suggest Artizan (especially as Von Krauch is both smoking and adjusting a sleeve), but I have most of the Artizan officers, and while they have lots of character and I like them as figures, none of them have much energy. They all seem kind of dumpy or stuffy - which is fine! I have uses for them too. I just happen to need something a bit more of a dandy.

I've got a bit of time on my hands and was just wondering what I could sculpt. I could make you one if you sent me a precise drawing of photo. I'm not a pro but can sculpt reasonably well (picture of my last sculpt below)

If the sculpt turns out fantastic, i could do a few resin copies and send you a couple. If it is OK, I'll send you the original as I have no use for it. I'd be happy to do it for free on the condition that you paint it to your highest standard. I always wondered how one of my sculpts would look if painted by someone who can paint.

You're a dab hand at sculpting mate (always loved your Aline conversion), but I'll probably want to do up my own conversion on this one I expect.

There's already probably hundreds of Wehrmacht officer figures out there, so having one more custom done seems like overkill when I'm sure there's something that can be made to suit out of existing bits.

Many thanks for the extremely generous offer though!

They don't come any smarmier than Captain Stransky...

Might work if you replace the pistol with a riding crop and gloves.

The top middle or top right fellows certainly have the right sort of attitude and is still a possibility (I had considered Bob Murch's fine figures). but converting them from Gestapo to regular Wehrmacht might be a bit of a finicky pain (wrong collar, and I'd need to remove the armband and sam browne belt).

They don't come any smarmier than Captain Stransky...

True! But full battle dress isn't what I had in mind.

Too bad this 1:35th figure isn't in 1:48 (I mix some 1:48s in with my stuff, notably DUST)

SS runes on collar. Please remember not to post Nazi symbols, even on figures.

Speaking of DUST, I could also convert their Desert Fox single... but eh bit overpriced and I'd rather not give them money if I have alternatives (this is currently my fallback plan if I can't find anything better). His aristocratic stance is good, so I could swap an arm or two to get the right attitude.

The Bob Murch fellows really do have that smug, arrogant attitude in the body that I'm looking for, I must say.

Bolt Action used to sell a German Officer with cigarette. Nice and quirky figure including a monocle. I cannot find him in their current webstore, though.

Chap in the left pic. The other two are still available in the "Guarding the Chateau" set.

That's another strong contender. Yes, very much the right attitude!

The problem with coming from an arts background is you know how much a pose can convey about character!

Also, sorry about the collar runes on the one image... was keeping an eye out for Swastikas, but forgot about those.
