More updates!

I decided to build a stone wall from scratch, and that then escalated a bit:

There are a few little details to finish off, but that’s basically it.

I am so glad that you have provided an update as it has given me the excuse to look at every picture again! This is a fantastic project and an inspiration for my own 20mm efforts. Thanks for sharing and keep posting-amazing work.

Very nice. I didn't see this "1st time round" so have been looking back at it. The $6m question.... did you ever find a set of rules that you like?  My mates and I game "Cold "War"/Moderns in 6, 15 and 20mm. We plan to use either NORTHAG or "Unofficial Battlegroup" Cold War for big, "armour-heavy"  battles in 6mm. However despite having the rules we have been prevented from trying them due to Lockdown. We use "Seven Days to the River Rhine" with our 15mm stuff, and did manage two games of this over the Summer. Not bad at all.  That leaves us with the more tricky question of more "skirmish" games in 20mm.  Rules tend to vary from thick tomes such as "Spectre" down to Empress Miniatures' "Danger  Close" which I think is only about 4 pages. Again lack of opportunity for face-to-face gaming has knocked this one on the head for now.  Interested to hear where you have got to re choice of rules.

Thanks

Hi there,
Thanks for the kind words, all. I have bunch of updates to add when I can find time to photograph them all properly and then sort out my online hosting (my flickr account is almost full). In amongst the updates are some hay bales (poorly executed version of Luke Towan's tutorial), a barn find WW2 jeep and a barn for them to go in (among several other things).

SJWi - I haven't looked any further on the rules front. We relocated back to the UK last autumn and what little spare time I've had has been spent modelling (as it's therapeutic...)

A poor quality teaser photo for now:

That piece of scenery is great (model railway great, and that is a compliment).

Agree - very nice attention to detail. A fair few modelling techniques done expertly in that one model.

I finally managed to sort out my Flikr account so I could upload a few more photos. So, I've been fiddling with a few things recently. Apologies for the size of the post... :P

First up, some HMMVWs (Revell - they seem more 1/76 than 1/72 to be honest):

An Airfix Jeep done as a rusty barn find:

A trailer (from the Airfix Jeep set):

Some barrels (Sgts Mess I think):

Haybales (the undercoat of yellow was waaaaay too yellow so it's fairly obvious where it shows through the jute bits - although to be fair it's more obvious on camera than in person)

Some Hornby telegraph poles - these were absolutely smooth so roughed them up with a hacksaw blade to get some texture:

A couple of ATVs from the always amazing Elhiem (incidentally, I ordered some new spec ops figures from them recently, and some backpacks and whatnot as stowage for the tanks, and they were a little bit delayed (due to Covid, so fair enough and not an issue) and as an apology they included an additional spec ops figure in the order - they are as amazing as the quality of their figures, and really great communication from them. Will continue buying from them and heartily recommend them to everyone)

Some scrappy barbed wire sections - made from Javis barbed wire, I think:

A barn for the barn find jeep and various bits to go in. This was scratch built from Wills corrugated roof and brick sheets, and some H beam from Plastruct. I learnt during this exercise that "oh, the nearest degree or two will be fine for the angles, I'll sort it with some sanding and filler" doesn't work.

Et voila. Next are the M2 and M1  - they're painted, just need filter, wash, weathering and stowage (so a fair bit, then).

What a cracking thread...just read it from start to finish, and I really love your terrain, really inspiring

Was also a pleasant surprise to see someone had played my old Battlefield Bad Company rules  8)

I am using a modified version of AKULA's BAD AR:SE rules, which make for very quick and fun games which can work with three opposing players, each running 4 soldiers. We have one of each class in each squad. I do need to get a third nationality of soldier from Elhiem to make it a bit easier to keep track of whose soldier is whose  :)
