Conquest games Normans but why not men of Gondor??
« on: August 14, 2012, 07:19:03 PM »
I have recieved a Norman Infantry box from Conquest games miniatures and I have been thinking of using them for Lord of the Rings games. I´m trying different colour schemes and shield designs but I think they will work perfectly as Gondorian. I have some more on the painting table but this is the only one that I could finish.

Excellent I have just posted a review of these miniatures claiming they could also be used for Rohan forces but Gondorians also seem a possibility. He looks great, splendid freehand!

Oh, wow! I love the tree on the shield! Very well done, they are indeed an ideal choice for soldiers of Gondor!

Indeed that shield is amazing and they certainly fit my image of Gondorians.

Mine too. That is excellent.
Huge fan as I am of the Peter Jackson movies, I always thought he / Weta / Alan Lee got Gondor as wrong as they got Rohan right.
This is much more how I see a typical soldier of Gondor.
Nice work.

I'd like to see them with quilted armour if I were going to use them as Rohirrim, but they do make great Gondorians.
Maybe the Gripping Beast saxons for Rohan? :)

Awesome free hand on the shield too mate.

Beautiful paintjob, especially the shield.

I am with the good Captain on this one.
The Rohirrim were spot on, in my opinion, but the Gondorians didnt do it for me.
This is a much better option, I reckon.

Thank you, I´m happy that you like them.

I´ll try to paint one as Rohirrim to see the result.

I think that Angus McBride made some Men of Gondor in this way but I can´t find the pictures. I´m painting another one without golden details. And I would like to paint another as Dol Amroth warrior. I think this set is very good for fantasy miniatures and 20GBP for 44 miniatures is a very good price. The good thing is the have cavalry too so it would be very easy to prepare a whole Gondorian army.

Cheers.

I have a feeling it had very little to do with Alan Lee, and was much more Peter Jackson.

He looks great, and would probably be a good match for standard Gondorian Infantry.  But...I thought I remembered from the book that Gondorian soldiers all wore the famous winged helms. Maybe that was just honor guard or something. Anyway fantastic PJ and great freehanding on the shield.
This is my boomstick!

Nice work.

I've always pictured Gondororians more like Byzantines rather than Norman (with some modest fantasy additions like gull wing helmets) but this one looks GOOD. Much better than the Weta effort.
