This was a bit of an experiment as we had not played a Darkest Africa game before. Thats the reason that the Fuzzy Wuzzy's make an appearance.

Nice one. That sequence of pics really creates the atmosphere of a frenzied and confused combat. Sort of like the "Saving Private Ryan" method of shooting action sequences but transferred to a slide show format.

Who won?

Mahdists certainly have their place in Darkest Africa games. I'm forever meaning to get some 1890s ones fight my Force Publique and various expeditions to Equatoria. Haven't seen any that really grabbed me, though. Be nice if the Perrys did some in an 1890s style.

Excellent terrain, hectic looking battle, well painted minis, good show regardless of the outcome.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Who won is a sticky one. I claimed victory for the slavers as they captured some supplies and slaves and burnt the village.

The Imperial troops claimed victory as they drove off the slavers with heavy loss.

The poor locals just got caught in the middle

Lovely terrain and figures. It looks like it was a tremendously enjoyable game.

Plynkes is certainly right - the Mahdists [and indeed the Egyptians] made many in search of slaves etc. No reason why you can't include them. I've done Fuzzies Vs Zanzibaris and Azande before

Well, the Perry range of Mahdists do contain command figures in jibbehs etc, so fingers crossed, they may do rank and file in the later dress. I'd certainly love to have some!

I wonder if we pestered them enough they might release some - and also British/Sudanese units in later dress and weaponry? I'd love to have some Sudanese units in "pullovers".

Hard luck for the locals caught in the middle sounds like the history of Africa for most of the colonial era doesn't it. Looks like it was a great game!

Very nice indeed. Please tell us about the scanario. Was it a 2 or more player game. Was there more than 2 sides or multiple players on each side with soomewhat different objectives?

You all took me by suprise as I posted that a year ago

Two players.

The scenario was an African village with a small party on Safari camped near. The village is attacked by Arab slavers who manage to capture the village and many of the occupants. The European group fights its way out as best it can.

On the throw of a dice to determine when they appear a Birtish army unit marches to the sound of the guns. They arrived to late to save the village but did save one of the Europeans.

Very much a fun game over a beer.

The figures are mainly Foundry although there are some Essex Miniatures mixed in.

The huts were scratch built by making the shape out of cardboard and then covering them in the offcuts from an old mat. The type that you wipe your feet on. Also good for creating corn fields. The off cuts were soaked onto the hut with PVA glue. They were then painted or rather washed with the relevant colours.

Seriously, if you have played other games I'd like to see more pics. The terrain and figures are gorgeous!
