Vintage Citadel Orc
« on: 07 January 2015, 03:49:23 PM »
Had a bit of fun recently whilst doing a job for Northstar. I decided to slip one of my old, old models into the batch and paint him up as well. I had a moderate lead mountain of elderly Orcs and this guy is hopefully just the start of the trickle. I like the brown skinned Orcs, although I might well throw some grey and green skins in later on as well.

Inspiring. I like brownskinned orcs too. What I really like about this one is how you've managed to get so much character from the orc's face. The shield is also lovely. I want to see more!

its nice to see such a "natural" painting style applied to a fantasy figure so well.

Such a subtle paint job.  ;)

The faded shield is especially eye catching and the skintone of the Orc matches the image so well.  :D

You are rather good at this painting lark sir.

Great painting.

By co-incidence, I also have a load of these Orcs. I was looking at them earlier in the year, and noticed the 'blue' metal was actually starting to crumble in my hands. I thought, if I don't at least undercoat them, there won't be a collection soon. (I bought 5 of them in 1983, the rest I got off a  Mail Order Troll when I was at GW 1988). So I cleaned them up, undercoated, fixed broken bows etc, and got an army standard painter to do them all green! I've got a nice little Old Skool orc army now, only took 30 years. It's got 5 Wyvern riders.

I should ask you to do the general?

Cool, why not. Which model is it?

I've got a smattering of the old Orcs - some pre-slotta, some slotta - and the Death Comandoes set to be painted. I'm trying to build up the old Ugezod's Black Orcs regiment (got the characters now, just about getting a couple more troopers) but It's just a sneaky side-project, all about nostalgia, and I'm not bothered about really having a gaming army at all.
