Death in the Dark Continent -playthrough and review
« on: January 08, 2016, 10:59:47 PM »
Gents,

We took Chris Peers' Death in the Dark Continent rules out for spin a few nights ago.

A pretty positive outing I'd have to say and I've popped up a solid AAR and comprehensive debrief of my thoughts on the game.

FYI.

Regards

We have,nt played these rules in over a year , but I always enjoyed them. Your posts have reawakened my interest and I,m planning to put on a game or two this year. You have given a comprehensive review of the rules and first game in your blog ,which I enjoyed ,and will certainly follow with interest. The table and figures look superb, btw, and the lack of clutter is exempelary. I,d be interested to see any lists you have for the various forces involved.

Cool... ;) I'm planning on using my Abyssinians in this genre as well as the setting I painted them for.

..I may throw in a good number of others as well  ;D

Excellent, glad you found it helpful. There was little online that gave a good description of the game so I thought it might be a useful post, particularly with a second edition coming along.

The table and figures look superb, btw, and the lack of clutter is exempelary.

They aren't mine but your right...they are lovely!!

The lists I got from Nick at Northstar. Maybe an email to him would be a good idea  ;)

Cheers

I already have the PDF lists from Northstar, perhaps I used the wrong word, I,d be interested in your Armies selected from the lists.

I am "Capitan Marcheur" of the Force Publique outpost at Karema.

I have been reflecting on my tactics (alone in the jungle with my mule 'Juliette' and a bottle of absinthe).

The thing that really hurt was that the Ngoni sweeping around my flank, which blocked my reinforcements obvious line of advance. Instead they had to pursue the Ngoni which they had no chance of catching before the defenders of the mission were massacred by Arabs and their allies.

I now remember why like "Death in the Dark Continent. I also remember why I stopped playing. it takes two hours to work out the scenarios.

Hello,

I have seen your AAR due to the Northstar tweed a few days ago. Amazing battle, terrain and miniatures.
Mac's stuff was always the main source of inspiration for me doing DitdC myself.

I hope your AAR and Northstars re vision of the rules will bring me back to my own project again

Alex,

Thanks for the kind comments - I'll pass them on to Mac..or he can read it here! :D

Your stuff is superb and one of the threads I revisit whilst looking at all things Darkest Africa. I hope you add extras as the minis you paint are lovely indeed and no doubt will be pressed into service once more...offering up some great African tabletop tales to be told  ;)

..we'd all love to see some more and hope that my small post can do for others what Mac's did for you!

Cheers

Excellent all round. I use Sharpe Practice with home-brew rules for Darkest Africa, but might well give DitDC a try. Your post reawakened my own interest in the period.
