I want to use silicon press-mold to take a detail from one figure and re-use it on another figure. However, the second figure is noticeably larger - is there any way to slightly scale-up the size of the bit? All I can think of is to wiggle the source figure around a bit as I apply the silicone mold, but I don't know that that will really give great results.

There is.  I have included a link.  A bit of chemistry and some chemicals.

Hope that helps.

Appreciated, but that's for a true rubber mold however, not the poor man's silicone substitute. Not worth purchasing all the proprietary chemicals for just the one transfer (I do have some robber mold stuff around here somewhere but I'd have to dig it out to see if it's the same brand).

You could probably stretch the mould over an upside down dish, making more surface area in the mould area.

the other option is to make a cast, then paint over it a few times with unthined acrylic paint.

Managed that well didn't I. lol  Fram, How about Using instamold and while it is still warm spreading the mold open a little?  That might give you the slight enlargement you need.

I know there are some more common/cheap materials that expand as they cure. Here in the US there's a plaster-like product called "Durham's Rock-Hard Water Putty" that's sold in hardware stores. It behaves a lot like plaster, but expands slightly when it cures/dries rather than shrinking slightly. Maybe make an intermediary casting with something like that, then make a new press mold from that casting.

You can use this Blue Quickmold bars for the Molding (melting in hot water stuff). Then lay the stuff 4-5 days in a  mix of 30% Ethanol and 70% Water. That should give you the Same effect like discribed in the smooth on Article. But the Mold will not last longer then 2-3 shots!
