...totally OOB. The kit is very basic but would make a great starting point for someone willing (and skilful enough) to improve it. I, though, am hoping to make the kit look reasonably good just by painting it! I've painted the interior, clipped it together and added it to the lower hull. I've attached the rear undercarriage legs but the ends that poke into the cabin need painting to make them less conspicuous. I started the Spartan Games resin version some time ago and will aim to complete this alongside the Revell one. The interior is painted and the model is built and primed. I may have already posted photos of the interior but if you haven't seen them they can be found here... http://dwartist.blogspot.co.uk/2016/11/wip-spartan-games-halo-pelican-dropship.html

And so it begins... :)

Awesome. During the process - mind humoring us 28mm guys with some scale shots along the way.

I kinda pooh-pooh'd the exterior, but, even with the squeeze clip, that interior is pretty impressive.
You go, guy!

Just measurements would be good too. Even if it's against the hallowed practice of always keeping the real size of miniatures a closely guarded secret o_o

good start

Comparisons and measurements later...

I have to say despite it being simplified and 'gimmicky' (lights and moving parts etc) to attract the toy market I'm really impressed with this kit. Moulding and detail is really good and even without gluing and filling the snap-fit seams it looks pretty good with the primer coat on. So good in fact I'm thinking of buying another one to super detail. This one will be sold for a very reasonable price. As you can see and as mentioned the Pelican has been primed and, hopefully, will get it's basecoat today. Meantime... size: It is approx. 320mm long x 260mm wide x 120 high at it's highest point with the undercarriage lowered.
Comparisons: with Spectre Miniatures Operators (about 32mm high) and ACP Mercenaries (about 18mm high). I'll take a few photos of it alongside the Spartan Games resin Pelican later (if I can find enough space to place them together!).

Fantastic, thanks. I'm sold...I'll be getting one at some point for simple scenario use methinks.
-
Big innit?
It doesn't look too bad with 28mm stuff at all! would make a nice little shuttlee/tender craft.
Saying that, I really want one to go with my white dragon 15mm infantry. It could be an excellent objective/board centre piece.

I can take a couple of photos of the pelican with MTU troopers...

Looks very good.
Might work as a proxy for a five engined jet for A.G.E.N.T.S.

Base colour and a few highlights applied. Looks a bit bright at the moment but this will change quite dramatically with filters and weathering. Masking off a few areas to add contrasting tones before applying a gloss coat and decals (I'm having a set designed but they may not arrive for a few weeks).

Definitely bigger than I thought. Thanks for the scale comparisons.

Saw one of these in a model shop, still not sure about one..

Still looking very toy-like at the moment...

For your value of "Toylike".
Me, I would be happy with getting it that far.
-
For $25-30 USD...I'll take toylike all day - considering the alternatives are an order of magnitude more expensive :D

And much harder to find now that spartan have bitten the dust.

Yep, and even if say Bandai or something released a full-on model kit you'd be looking at double or more the price etc. For something that'll serve as a nice piece of terrain or objective marker, etc....it's excellent. I need to get out to Hobby Lobby and pick one up.

Just got my 2nd one for my day of birth last week.
I like em,especially for their cost.
Would having 4 be too many? Or not enough?

David, you sent me decals for my ships for my birthday? That's so nice of you. I just didn't know you had my address already. :-)

I commissioned a set of decals for the Revell (and Spartan Games) Pelican (before I discovered somebody had already made a 'Halo' set available - my apologies to...) and have made them available to all. Be aware though that they may need a little more attention than decals you may be used to (see user instructions on the site) http://www.jbot.ca/space/pelican.shtml

The decals went on fine and were much more robust than I had anticipated. The only problem I encountered was of my own making - the gloss coat I applied wasn't as smooth or as glossy as it should have been and as a consequence the decal film around the 'birds' is visible. Lesson learned (it was always meant to be just a test piece for the Spartan games version so not too bothered)! Lots more weathering to add and quite a bit of detail painting to do.

Excellent - this kit really is a steal!

One of the best non-transparent cockpits I've ever seen. :o :-* 8)

That is very nice.

You've done this sort of thing before haven't you lol
Lovely work maestro

Awesome work on the canopy! 8)

Which is which? The ones in the above post are different from the ones on JBOT's site.
Be aware though that they may need a little more attention than decals you may be used to (see user instructions on the site) http://www.jbot.ca/space/pelican.shtml
http://www.jbot.ca/application.shtml took me way too long to find the link. Thought i would make it easier.
The only problem I encountered was of my own making - the gloss coat I applied wasn't as smooth or as glossy as it should have been and as a consequence the decal film around the 'birds' is visible.
Wont Micro-Sol or Micro-Set help in this? Or the gloss is down and no way to fix it?
started work on the cockpit canopy...
That is just awesome. Is there a step by step process to help understand how this was accomplished?
This "kit" or "toy" as has been mentioned, what can be done with a little work and motivation.
I personally cant wait till you get the Spartan version done and do a side by side.
Because if this is a toy, and i could do this work, would be my first choice every day and all day long. $23 over what $100+
Cant wait to see more.

That is extremely good.

@ Grimmnar
The decal sheet on the site is the one he first produced. I asked him to remove the 'Police' and replace them with 'Marines' and 'UNSC'. He obviously thought the first shhet would be more popular.
I used sol and set. The problem was the poor quality of the gloss coat I applied. I don't think I thinned the gloss varnish enough and it created a textured rather than flat and shiny surface.
I haven't done a step by step for painting canopies. I don't think it would be an easy process to follow as I make it up as I go along! I might try to do so when I get around to painting the SG Pelican.

I get ya now. Yeah, when i think HALO and the Pelican i think war and not police.
I appreciate the tip on the gloss varnish. I didn't know you would have to thin it down to avoid the issue you had.
There no way to fix it? No matter how much of a pain in the ass it is to do?

Well dont want you to have to struggle. I will just send over my 2x canopies then for you to take care of it. :-)
Send the other two when i get them.

"I appreciate the tip on the gloss varnish. I didn't know you would have to thin it down to avoid the issue you had."
You shouldn't have to...depends on the varnish and your airbrush needle/nozzle size. I would normally use Vallejo Model Air but ran out a while ago so have been using Model Color thinned with a couple of drops of Vallejo thinner to ease the flow. The one I had a problem with was Vallejo polyurethane varnish which is quite viscous and, for me, needs thinning. I didn't thin it enough and airbrushed an uneven layer without me realising it. Gone back to using thinned Model Color until I can restock on model air.
