"Die Seehund", or the Seal; Captained by Kapitanleutenant Milhan, sailing out of Bremerhaven - she patrols the coastal waters of the Baltic sea during the winter of 1945.
Most of her recent activity has been escorting refugees making their way west; escaping the vengeful Russian hordes advancing through Eastern Prussia.
More recently she has been supporting valiant German rearguard actions on shore with her guns...

i've never done a boat before, let alone worked so quickly on a project...
from out of the box it was hidden in, to finished and photographed in a week i think....
now for me that is a speed build!!!! ;)
i think i need a rest now...lol!
enjoy!
rob.
p.s. there is a flag, and provision for it - its been left off in the pics due to German law regarding veiwing certain symbols ;)

Very nice!

some of the conversion work and detailing...
the main deck was tidied up... new barrels from SHQ,
the lines on the cargo hatches were replaced and some extra stowage.
(you can just make out the replacement brass bollards too!)
below - a close-up of the new bollards (sadly i only had 4x sets of these, but they look much better than the originals)
and the new anchor chain which replaced the cast one... :D
(http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/9514/dscf5381.jpg)(http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/2277/dscf5383g.jpg)
the white metal masts were all bent outta shape, and clearly wouldn't take much handling, (and some parts were missing)
so i rebuilt them out of brass rod... (sorry the pic is blurry but you get the idea)
below - both the fore and aft masts are removeable, and slot into a slightly narrower brass rod
which is drilled and pinned in place... (note brass rod replacement pipework on the rear of the funnel) :)
finally, the main structure of the boat, with new port holes from plastic tubing,
and extra detailing from plastic strip and brass rod.

Ladies & genn'ulmen - the crew....
the whole scurvy load of 'em... (note only three Britannia figs made it through to the final cut)
various conversions from various Battlefield Miniatures figs;
the main gun crew, gunner started out as a LFDiv infantryman, gunnery officer was the loader from the LFDiv 88 crew (now with new arm and binos) and the loader is from the DAK 88 crew, all have been chopped about, heads swapped and lifejackets added....
next two are from the DAK 88 crew, again - headswaps and suchlike... these will be prepping ammo on the deck ready to pass upto the fore guncrew - again, lifejackets from duro

Wow! Thats just brilliant.

Nice job. I really like what you have done, the conversion is great and the paint job is brilliant. I also really like the comprehensive photos, thanks for sharing!
I have one negative comment though, the displacement wave looks really naff and detracts from the whole effort. You can get some really great water effects with resins and stuff, you should read some modelling sites and have another go at the water around the edge. I think a good wake wave would elevate this model from a good standard to an outstanding piece of art!
THis site has some amazing water effects, Im sure you can find more tutorials too...

Absolutely brilliant. :-* :-*
The amount of work done is amazing and all in a week. :o
Love what you have done with the crew, great conversions that you make look simple. And a good paint job on the 20 mm figures. :-*
-
Absolutely amazing work, I am deeply impressed! :-* :o 8)
(Even more when thinking about the 1 week timeframe...)

sadly the water around the edge is both huge and also cast as part of the hull... a standard feature of Britannia Miniatures boat ranges...
because of the way it has been cast it won't allow traditional water effect substances to sit and dry/cure outside of a lick of varnish...
i could have dremelled the water off the hull... but i only had a week - ah well... :'(
cheers, rob. o_o

Well done Sir! :-*
-
WOW!! That is fantastic!
The boat and the crew both look gorgeous!
-
got to be the best boat model i've seen in this scale, congrats.
-
Like wot the others said - bloody marvellous! :-*
-
I´m stunned.
Superb! :o
-
Wonderful. The table looks good, too. Do you have a shot of the whole table?
PS: Bremerhaven isn't on the baltic shore, but North Sea ;)
-
Fantastic :-* :-* :-* :-*. Britannia may have to look at the title they've given this thing - 'Armed Trawler'? I see lots of guns and no room for fishing gear so I doubt the good people of Bremerhaven will be feasting on juicy North Sea cod, from this boat, anytime soon!!
-
:o :o that is a dream !! i am hooked .
Very good work
