Title: This is for Ray
Post by: Tellus on 26 October 2020, 07:34:08 PM
Well, Ray had asked me so politely and heart warming,...

@Tellus.. get your butt in gear and paint up some minis for us to gawk at!  ;)

....so, how could I refuse his request?? lol

Though, nothing brand new, but first time on the net. I had already finished these Guys in May, for an DBA 3.0 Campaign (3rd Crusades), in which then I couldn't take part of. And that was the reason I didn't finished the job on the bases of the other half of the lot. So, for now I can't show them in it's entire might. But I hope that will change soon.....despite the fact that I have already started an Army for the next Campaign.

As I have mentioned these Minis are based for DBA 3.0 and represent an Seljuq Turkish Army  (List III/74b).
They're all Perry. Flags are from Little Big Men Studios.

I'm not Ray, but I've taken a peep and might as well leave a comment. ;)
Nicely done, mate, really like the paintjobs. It's also kind of encouraging to see a cavalry-based army of 12 horses (so far). Heck, even I could handle that!  lol

Well, that depends on your definition of a large force, I guess ;)
This is only 50% of the army, so there will be definitely some more.

Hey Ray, glad you like them  :D

Of course you’re welcome, too, Tilman   lol
Yeah, DBA Armies with lots of horse are pretty manageable in the context of miniatures to paint. Success on the battlefield might be something else, especially in the case of many Light Horse Units.

Quite right, it’s a pity, Dirk. The chat in the evening with you and Niall and...ehm...Bob?...sorry if I got this wrong, was my personal highlight of this years Tactica.

Many people don’t but I really like painting horses.

I really enjoy your style of painting, which in many ways is quite unique. In these minis you have posted on this thread you see that technique expressed in it's purest form on the horses. It is there on the figures, but now more subdued.

Looking forward to future additions!  :-*

Really like their colourful attire.

I do with a passion. They are just stupidly big surfaces.

I love painting horses. I hate painting all the tack though - so damned fiddly!
I hate painting muskets and rifles too. Again, so fiddly.
The funny thing is, I love painting other fiddly things like faces and heraldry.
Strange isn’t it, what we enjoy and do not enjoy about painting miniatures :)

Thank you very much, you are so Kind, Ray. I like especially the "quite uniqe" part   ;)
The Horses are the stars of the Show, they have to shine  lol
Future additions are on the way!

Great additions. :-*
Really like their colourful attire.

Well, my idea was to use some unusual combinations of Colours which might not fit properly together, when you first think about it. Especially when you're used to paint uniforms most of the time.
I'm really pleased how everything turned out. It's a wild colourful bunch and I love them. :)

Well, some Things are more fiddly than others  lol

(Mmh, sounds like the title of a Smiths Song)

Totally agree.

A pet peeve of mine is that manufacturers offer so few variants of poses for horses. For example, a standing horse will bob it's head, look to either side, stamp its feet and swish its tail. They are living, wonderful creatures... not robots.

Looking forward to more pics!  ;D

Finally I got around to finish off the bases of these three elements today. Now are the 12 elements you need for a game finished. Although there is still something to do. I need to paint the miniatures for a camp und want to do some optional elements I then can swap with the Psiloi.

Thank you for the kind words.

By the way, Ray, about the horses, I think we must give the Perrys some credits for the great sculpts, too.
Their work is inspiring and makes it much easier to achieve a good result.

@Atheling
I like crisp  lol
