Time for another little bundle of fun project :)
This has been on the cards for a while and I've got quite a few figures and beasties for it (still looking for the man himself though) and I thought I would start with some terrain first. The inspiration is coming from everywhere really, whatever fits in my head with how I think it should look.
The cavern system is going to be based on 200mm squares and for the most part everything will fit into this. There will be some larger areas that will include features (ruins, lava river, fountain of youth etc) and some that might be a bit taller than the 60mm ones that I have at the moment.
Couple of pictures of the caves so far. I've got a few more on the go and they will match up with the Nemo's lair ones I have on this thread https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=129361.180 (https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=129361.180)

Great terrian
-
Wow, just wow!
-
They look like they could have plenty of uses…just swop in a bit of scatter and you’ve got a rebel base for Nevarro ;)
-
Brilliant!!! Will you have lids to hide what’s inside?
-
Now those are neat!
-
Superb!
-
Cheers chaps :)

Yeah, I’ll be doing a few for there as well lol
Will you have lids to hide what’s inside?
Yes, that’s the idea. Reveal when a cavern is entered and then covered again when left >:D
-
Cool!
-
Looking good!
-
Nice looking boards.
By the way, is that Bernard Cribbins in the turban?
-
Looks great James!
-
Excellent.
Look forward to seeing more of the miniatures you choose, as well.

-
Fantastic. Being square with a solid rim should make them easier to store as well.
-
Really cool!
-
I have a desert fantasy project that bubbles along, so can't wait for the inspiration from your project.
-
Superb, I love the stackability of these, since I have storage issues.
-
Thanks again :)
Yeah. Storage, although not a massive issue yet, certainly does prey at the back of my mind now more than it used to lol
By the way, is that Bernard Cribbins in the turban?
Good spot lol
-
Those are excellent. Did you make the boxes yourself or are they something that is commercially available?
-
Brilliant. :)
-
I’m a little late to jump on the bandwagon- but those terrain boards are absolutely jaw-dropping :-* :-* :-* did you make these yourself?!
-
Sod Bernard, who makes a decent Caroline Munro mini?
Boards are ace but you know that already 8)
-
Cheers :)

Lasered from 2mm mdf. Each wall has a doorway cut in it and the base is plain, just to keep things simple. They can be blocked off if not needed. The larger tiles will probably have elements cut out of the templates but I've yet to have a proper think about them.

lol
I'm sure there's one somewhere :D
-
Antediluvian miniatures Lost World range for Caroline :)
-
The caves look great. I'm excited to see this develop (I'm not getting distracted by Sinbad though. Nope, I'm not doing it).
-

For all your Sinbad needs
-
I'd like to use these for Broken Contract. I think the modularity would be perfect
-
<draws up chair>… you had me at Sinbad…
-
Thanks again :)
Got a stalagmite tile on the go at the moment and I’ll post a wip this afternoon when I get it out again.
-
Hell yeah. Love me a bit of Sinbad. Those cavern tiles look amazing.
-
So this is the stalagmite tile. Plenty of room to move in between them but enough there for some cover if needs be.
The ‘doorways’ get a little ramp of foam leading onto the ground and I’ll add some filler to smooth it out before gluing the sand in place. The gaps at the back of the rock face will also get some filling and then it can all be painted :)

Excellent addition :)
-
Nice!
-
Top job!
-
Any plans to make these ‘box frames’ commercially available?
-
Thanks :)

Not really but I can look at doing some for you if that’s of interest?

Thanks :)

I am keen but I’m going to guess that postage could be the killer
-
That looks excellent. You're going to have a cracking set up.
-
Love these! Great idea , will be following with interest!
-
Cheers :)

Drop me a line with what you fancy and I’ll see what I can do :)

Turns out one of my friends has a rather large laser cutter in a workshop so I managed to send him some simple images, similar to yours but with a few differences to fit the thing I'm after and in less than a few hours managed to churn out a few dozen 'boxes'.
-
No bother.
I painted a beastie for Sinbad (when I eventually decide on a figure lol) and his crew to fight against. Lovely little sculpt from Conquest Games.

Cool model, nice paints too. A scorpuss :o 8)
-
Very kewl figure, I especially like the tail colour, it makes it look even more menacing :)
-
I really like the fur effect paint job. That's so well done and totally sells the lion-like nature of the beastie. And thematically the choice of mini is purrfect.
-
Have to agree with everyone- that looks fantastic!
-
Really like the stalagmite tile 8)
-
Thanks chaps :)
I’ve got quite a few beasties that will fit the bill but I need to crack in with caves and the man himself :)
-
That's a very fitting miniature, and painted beautifully.
-
That monsters cool! Never seen that model before! Love the tail!
-
Brilliant Beastie. :)
-
Excellent beastie!
-
Cheers :)
I've finished off some more crewmen and now I have five which is enough for a basic FFoL team. I've also got the man himself primed and should be able to get him done in a day or two.
I think they're generic enough for either good guys, bad guys or just general beastie fodder :D
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/61/2619-191223153423-611532159.jpeg)
-
Nice work on those 👍
-
They look like a suitable bunch of seafaring adventurers. Top work. ;D
-
Great job on the crew 8)
-
Thanks chaps :)

Got another beastie done and it's an iconic cyclops (from Reaper). I shaved the ears down a bit as they were very pointy. The model also came with a goblin shaman that stood on his back but I'll possibly use that for my fantasy orcs and goblins force.

That's awesome,love it 8)
-
Great job!
-
Superb paint job! :-*
-
Very nicley painted cyclops - it fits in size-wise very well with the rest of the minis you have going for this collection. I am enjoying seeing this all come together.
-
Love that Cyclops, very Harryhausen in style.
-
That fits right in. Beautifully painted too.
-
Love the cyclops!
-
Many thanks chaps :)
Forgot to mention that I also chopped his fancy mace down and swapped it over with a balsa wood club, which seemed more fitting.
-
He looks great :)
-
Excellent work James!
-
Oh, that cyclops is superb. They scared the bejesus out of me when I was a nipper.
-
You really made that figure shine.
-
Very nice.
-
Thanks again :)
I've finished off the stalagmite cave and started on one that has some walls and other stuff in. The tomb and well are from the Arabic additions range https://www.oshiromodels.co.uk/arabicaddetions (https://www.oshiromodels.co.uk/arabicaddetions)

Once this next one is done I think I'll go for a double length and have it as some sort of entrance from above ground with some ruined temple bits.
-
Tremendous :-* ;D
-
Those are great!
-
They’re great!
-
Looking good.
-
These are really nice.
-
Cheers fellas :)
-
James they look great, the cave walls look great, and I like that your using the mdf frame to ensure the openings match up.
-
James, these look great fun to game in!
-
Those caves are excellent!
-
excellent stuff.
there is a boardgame called Sub Terra (essentially the Descent), with tiles laid down to show a cave system. It has hazards that you might want to include - ledges which allow one way movement (unless you have a rope) and squeezes where a passage narrows and halts movement.
if you have any chase moments, could be interesting.
-
They are really neat. Well done
-
Thanks again :)

I've got quite a few ideas for specific caves but I like those suggestions as well 8)
-
Any plans to make these ‘box frames’ commercially available?
I was going to ask that, but with the possible optional add on of a simple lid/cover with a circular hole in the middle (so you can lift it off)
-
Got a bit of movement on this project with a newly finished cave. A simple tomb this time.
I’ve also got a couple more 200x200 blanks and also a 200x400 blank ready to work on. One of the 200’s will be an entrance from above ground, not sure about the others yet although I have a long list of options.

Very nice James

That’s ace!

That is really nice - love the rock texture

I once (might be a decade or more ago) saw this huge dungeon project by (I believe) a German guy, who did this with 30x30cm modules. He also had a huge chamber one measuring 60x60, and an L-shaped one as well, but everything was modular and had entrances on all four sides (the 60 ones had two, obviously), which could be closed off if he so desired. He had a huge table filled with them and it was glorious. I've always wanted to emulate this, but lack of access to lasercutting equipment has held me back from starting on it.
Your modules remind me of that, but still have a completely different feel to them. Also, the modules are decidedly smaller, which has both its pros and cons I suppose.
At any rate; they're looking absolutely great, and I can't wait to see a full table's worth of them :)
-
Another nice piece James! :-* :-*
-
Thanks chaps :)

Storage is the main pro but I'll be doing larger 'caves' hopefully to counter the small size. 400x400 for example. I might even do some narrow 'corridors' but they could be limiting for game scope.
A full table... lol
2 foot square with some options would be nice :)
-
Looking great. :)
Can’t wait to see a full table, it’s going to be awesome ;D
-
...A full table... lol
But it was! It was! :D
Of course I'm unable to find the pics right now, but it was something along the lines of the pictures below. Except the base modules were squares, just like yours, and there was no existing gaming system or hirst arts involved. I believe he had blind walls or (working!) doors as inserts for each opening connecting modules too.
Only 50 more modules to go for a full 6x4 table; you can do it! ;D
-
But it was! It was! :D
I meant for me. It’ll never happen lol
That set up is rather epic 8)
-
OMG! That is an insanely wonderful table. Would love to rent that setup for a weekend's gaming but too much for long term storage.
