Title: Build Something Competition 2024: Topic Poll
Post by: Burgundavia on 03 January 2024, 08:44:27 PM
It's that time again! Time to see what we are going to build for the 2024 Build Something Competition. Vanvlak and I are talking about timing - not sure entirely when we'll start, but this poll will run for two weeks. After that, likely 2-3 before we start (maybe as early as Feb 1st).

I should know better than to start a project this time of year.  I always have to stop half way through for the BSC.   lol

I saw your post today, was amused given you are creating a workplace... (lovely work, btw)

No matter which option, it's going to have to be really shoehorned into existing projects I suspect; none really fits within them.

But that won't stop me. let's just hope I won't have to bow out this year... ::)

At the moment I have absolutely no idea what to do for any of the themes. ??? ??? ???

But I'm sure I'll think of something. :D

One last day of voting! Will there be a surprise change or are we going to the workplace in 2024?

Workplace it is! With the lower participation in the poll from last year to this, I'm going to propose we hold off starting until at least mid Feb. Let people recover a bit more.

Fine with me too, it'll be nice to have a bit of time for the hunter-gatherer phase!

(Consider my choice of words a hint as to my intentions...)

Excellent.

That will give us some time to ponder on the applicability of the subject within existing projects too...  :)

Well I voted for speed, but workplace probably works better for what I had in mind.
But I have some other ideas as well now so I have no problem with the postponed start. It gives me time to decide what I won't be able to finish in time what I want to do  lol

Just a note on potential rules for this round: Can we amend using limited 3D printing parts to add acceptability for parts created by the entrant specifically for the contest? (Like, lets get into the 21st century!)  Regards, Rob.

As I understand it, limited 3d printed parts are already acceptable.

Regarding the rules I would like to ask for clear deadlines. If there is a deadline for building and one for painting the rules should reflect that.
I need to know how much time I can waste at the start  lol

Given I extensively 3D print and am (along with Vanvlak) helping run this round, yes, we'll amend the rules. Requirements will remain over self-design %'s and purchased models will count towards the total commercial parts

As someone who has only just been dragged into the 20th century, I object.  lol lol lol
