Hello all.
I would like to present a small project on When Nightmares come. I decided to adapt the rule to a context around New Orleans in the 30s by using this book (in french, sorry...) :
(https://zupimages.net/up/24/33/qakp.jpg) (https://zupimages.net/viewer.php?id=24/33/qakp.jpg)
To start, here are six hunters (two wardens, two weavers and two wrights). The minis are prints of STL files from a KS, Moonlite Bayous.

You can see mores details and Characters sheets on my blog (all in french, sorry again !) : http://hastalafigurinasiempre.blogspot.com/

Great setting for your project. There's just something about New Orleans that makes it perfekt for pulpy mythos settings :)
The minis look great, too. Once again I wish I had room for a printer :D Very characterful bunch. I'll happily follow along for their adventures.
-
Very interesting setting, with great minis. Can't wait to see a first report! :)
-
That’s a great premise and set of painted miniatures. Just curious, how many figures are recommended for a group of hunters when playing solo?
-
That's a wonderfully rich idea for a setting. New Orleans seems perfect for horror and supernatural!
Mike Demana
-
Fantastic idea, I love the way When Nightmare Come fits easily into just about any 20th/21st century setting.
-
Nice. Looking forward to your game photos and reports.
-
If anyone needs a native New Orleanian to vet plausibility or realism regarding setting, I’m happy to help. Just try to get the accents right…

Mike Demana
not to mention Anne Rice source material.
-
Un bon début! Looking forward to more.

You New Orleanians probably have it as bad as us Bostonians...

Yeah, you right, Cap! F’sure!
-
Thanks you all for yours response ;) .
The project is not (un)dead ! New character, a voodoo witch.

-
An interesting project. Nice paint job on the witch.
-
Great idea and some lovely painting. That voodoo witch is special.
Doug
-
Very atmospheric mini! I would like to see the extent of his power... :)
-
You've done a wonderful job on those figures. And your setting sounds intriguing...
-
Thanks everybody for yours comments.
News minis will come soon, anothers adventurers and creatures.
-
As promised... two news Hunters, Albert (Warden) and Veronica (Weaver).

And two evil priests. You can see other creatures, I put the link to my blog : https://hastalafigurinasiempre.blogspot.com/2024/09/when-nightmares-come-les-dark-spawns.html

Lovely work again. And a real mix from the exotic to the ordinary in the shape of Albert. Not that Albert is any way inferior - he looks great in his own way. He’s a simple subject but you’ve done him proud.
Doug
-
Dang nice work. That evil priest looks sufficiently, well, evil... 8)
-
That lady in heels is great! She looks like she could be on the dance floor doing a particularly Lindy Hop.
-
Great paintjobs, Albert looks like Gerald Durrell. (Veronica is in a weid pose thogh, like someone having a toilet break in a place with no toilets)
-
Interesting concept and nice miniatures.
-
Obviously, I come to this fairly late, I will say I also come to this impressed. Do you have ideas for terrain yet?
While it's true I can't read French, I won't apologize for writing in English, even poor colonial, you shouldn't for that in French. The cover alone was worth the look.

I'd not been aware of Mr. Durrell, though photos of him later in life suggest Brian Cox a bit more. Not Albert, as such...
As for Veronica, not wei(r)d at all, as part of a dance, but as with photos, frozen in place can seem so.
I am recently moved to Missouri, and bordering Arkansas, always looked Mississippi adjacent from afar.
Not accurate, not entirely false...

Gorgeous minis and an inspired setting. Looking forward to more.
-
I'm really enjoying this thread. The setting is different and rich, and that plays into the interesting miniatures, which are beautifully painted.
-
Thank you all for your answers. It encourages me to continue the project.
Some monsters are coming in a few days.
-
And here are three creatures that came directly from the bayou. These three have a story. They’re failed impressions by a friend. I told him not to throw them away, they might be saved. We see the printing errors (some streaks and failures) but with a little conversion and paint, they are usable!

Really nice!!
-
Yes, that's a wow from me.
-
Nice job on the monsters!
-
Agree - those are too nice to throw away! Great job on them. I'm glad you put the 28mm fig in for scale, otherwise I would have guessed they were roughly man-sized. :o
Mike Demana
-
Well, they look adequately ghastly... :D
-
Like the others, I really appreciate these monsters. They remind me the movie the Creature from the Black Lagoon (L'étrange créature du Lac noir)! An inspiration for a scenario? :)
-
Thank you all for your answers. It encourages me to continue the project.

Answers well rewarded, I would say. Continued brilliance!
'Creature from the Black Lagoon' is a bit my personal totem, as Douglas comes from Celtic origins meaning from the black pool or water...

Even a flesh eating monster sometimes needs someone to believe in them to achieve their true potential.
As others have said, lovely work all round.
-
They don’t look as if they have anymind to be served up with a sauce piquant. Indeed, i expect they are hunting up chefs from Lafayette to return the favor.
-
Albert looks like Gerald Durrell.
I thought Guillermo del Torro myself...
-
Perfectly usable and also very good! Very satisfying rescuing models like this.
-
You've got some beautiful figures with beautiful rich colours. Lookin' good.
-
Arriving late to the discussion - sorry. I just stumbled across a reference to your KS.
Are the minis still available from you or the sculptor either as minis or STLs?
Are the rules still available (PDF or hard copy)?
Thanks!
I'm in the USA, which may affect availability of any merchandise, and I'm a 100% solo gamer.
Cheers,
John

Thanks everybody for yours comments.
To John : Minis are availables on MyMiniFactory in STL version to print : https://www.myminifactory.com/users/cosmondo?utm_source=linktree&utm_medium=mmf&utm_campaign=always
The rules is available on Osprey in PDF : https://www.ospreypublishing.com/us/when-nightmares-come-9781472860040/
Good game !
-
I like the bayou monsters, are they shallow water relatives of the Deep Ones?
-
In my mind, they are aquatic creatures / monsters. Everyone can then consider them as he wishes, simple lizards or Deep Ones...
-
The project is not dead !
Some news...
In Nightmare, Dark Spawns arrive via portals. I made three of them with different bases.

Cool, creepy ones! As it should be :)
-
EEEEEKKKK!
Scary buggers they is... :o
-
Thank you all. I have some Hunters on the workshop who will arrive in the coming weeks.
-
A new Hunter, Michigan Smith Senior, archeologist and weaver.
-
Very nice, and he actually looks like some archaeologists that I know.
-
What a splendid figure, your brushwork is great. This is the level I'm aspiring to one day. Maybe. But unlikely.
-
Thanks marianas_gamer and Spinal Tap.
I have been painting for about fifteen years. If you saw my first figurines... horrors lol ! In France, we said, "c'est en forgeant qu'on devient forgeron" -> one can roughly translate it by "It’s by forge that one becomes a blacksmith" (Practice makes perfect).
-
The portals (and everything else) look great. What are using for the Nexus?
-
I haven’t thought about that yet. For now, I’m thinking of using simple tokens. Eventually, I would need to find STL files to print that might resemble the 'magical effects' used in Warhammer.
-
Old glory makes a great set of machete armed voodoo enthusiasts. Would fit your style.
Also Brigade Haitian zombies

Also Brigade Haitian zombies
I will see Brigade Games in a couple weeks at Historicon. I'll have to look into those...good suggestion!

Thanks for your comments.
Unfortunately, I live in France and it is difficult to obtain references from American or English brands (thanks to Brexit...) because of taxes and transport costs. the simplest solution remains to go to trade shows (like Crisis) or hope that a shop in the European Union offers some products from these brands.
I take this opportunity to introduce two new characters... a young Reaver and a Wrights who love drugs potions.

He's just making potions to take care of his family after the cancer gets him, right?
-
Great! I particularly like your "Wrights who love
drugs potions". Maybe because he has the same haircut as me! :D
-
Thanks for your comments.
Three news minis, one bad guy and two hunters.

Nice figure. I really like the lady with the shotgun...
-
Fabulous painting.
One day I'll be able to turn out miniatures as good as that.
Hopefully.
