We have just started working with Mace Face Miniatures to get their Hornblower 15mm Fantasy range into circulation here in the UK.
The first release is Shieldmaidens. We're making them in metal. They match really well with the Copplestone Castings Barbarica range. There's more to come, we've seen Undead and Beastmen from the designer for the next releases.
We have put together a collectors deal and an Army Deal for the preorder period, we'll have the figures ready to go around the 16th of this month.
You can order here: https://www.northstarfigures.com/list.php?man=331&page=1 (https://www.northstarfigures.com/list.php?man=331&page=1)

Well heck! I don’t need more figures, but I really like these… it’s a conundrum.
Maybe I should pick up a few packs while I decide whether to use them as a new army, or blend them into my barbarian army. It would be the wargamer thing to do.
-
Pretty nice. Amusing that the gals got proper clothing and armor while the Barbarica guys are topless beefcake. Nice inversion of sword & sorcery expectations. :)

I hear buying a bunch and then never getting around to painting them so your descendants are left to figure out what to do with them is also a popular choice. :)
-
I expect that my great grandkids will be painting the last of the stuff I currently have in the painting queue. And I’m okay with that! ;)
-
Seeing the name Hornblower and that image is really incongruent in my head... lol
-
An absolutely brilliant tribute act to the Maestro. Can’t wait to paint some, and looking forward to what’s coming next :-*
-
Thanks Captain! Super happy with the reception so far :-)
-
Those are some of the best miniatures in 15mm that I've seen to date... not to mention that they are easily the best female 15mm figs that I've seen. With a set of clippers and a file they'd make great historical vikings as well.
It's so great seeing more female figures out there too. I'll definitely pick these up.
-
:o Darn, this could be bad news for the wallet... lol
I take it these are smaller than the Wiglaf minis by a fair amount?
-
I would say Size wise they match up very well to both Barbarica & Wiglaf.
I've got a comparison here:
-
Yeah, those look well within the range of usual human variation. The equipment looks about right, too - similar bulk. I’ll definitely be purchasing some.
-
More to join the collection of 15mm fantasy - Copplestone Barbarica Ice Tribe and Picts plus Wiglaf.
-
Fantastic. Can’t wait to see what else you have planned. Hopefully some more civilized lads and ladies to fit the barbarian hordes.
-
Succumbed, ordered the army offer.
Interested in seeing the undead - would prefer GOT style to Classical Harryhausen, more suitable for the Cold weather gear on the Shield Maidens.
-
Thanks for all the support so far!
Without getting too far ahead of myself...
The main undead faction will be the "Barrow Lords", which are a Celtic / European BronzeAge sort of army, with all the unit types.
But I have some plans for a Savage Tribes Zombies/slightly less boney Undead pack (to use as white walkers vs the Icetribe).
If things go really well we might be able to have a single Skeleton pack for every major culture, but this would be late stages.
-
The wiglaf are amazing as are all the other Copplestone 15mm, so this is good news indeed :D
-
Cool.
-
I can't avoid the siren call of the Cooplestone/Wiglaf/Hornblower ~15mm line any more. These are incredible!
Well, there's a 2025 project sorted.
What's the future of the line look like after the Barrow Wights? Beastmen next?

Yes, Beastmen, and lots more.
-
I crumbled like a sand castle in the tide and bought the army pack. I’m really looking forward to painting some! I haven’t started an undead or a beastmen army yet, but the barrow wights seem promising.
-
Yes, Beastmen, and lots more.
I appreciate that these lines are more dark age fantasy rather than high fantasy. Will the beastmen, and whatever come next, follow a similar dark age aesthetic or are they more Warhammer-like?

Sounds well worth getting into then 😀

You can see some of my test castings on my instagram page @macefaceminiatures,
My beastmen won't have bolted together rusty armor, but all their gear is stolen or gifted from various cultures in the setting :-)
It's not uncommon for humans to place old weapons and gear at the edge of the moors, as tribute, in hopes of keeping the Beastmen away from their villages...
I would say all factions sit between Ancients to Darkages, more Sword and Sorcery feel.

Perfect!

Have you bought them yet? ;D

I will certainly be getting some :)

A fantastic looking set of minis
I personally don't need more women in my life but I hope the range keeps going

Great little sculpts; excellent start to the range.

You m3ntioned previously about releasing some Rangers, are they by chance still in the plans?
-
Absolutely, The rangers faction would be a great opponent for the savage tribes beyond the icewall ;-)

Great I'll save some space in the display case :D
-
These are an instant addition to the Christmas list. Having had to search far and wide for good 15mm female minis, to see so many unique sculpts come at once is great!
-
I received 4 sample figures yesterday in an order from Northstar. They’re really great figures. I’m looking forward to receiving the full order I placed!
-
Sample pack you say, is that a universal possibility?
-
It was. There was an offer in the Northstar newsletter a few weeks (maybe a month?) ago that they would include a free sample figure if the buyer requested one. So I did and they sent 4 little darlings.

Ooooft Exciting! Can't wait to see what you do with them :-p

Missed that while I was busy swapping out my email address I was unsubscribed. I would have already picked up some if they did a mixed weapon pack
-
Kikuchiyo - I pre-ordered the whole set. I won’t use all of them (we mostly play small skirmish games). If you are not in a hurry I’d be happy to drop a few from each pack in the mail for you when they arrive.

I dropped by Northstar last week and got some samples - gosh they are lovely sculpts! Will post pics as I get a chance.
-
They would go great with Midgard :-)

Well Mathias (Maceface) and Nicknorthstar were kind enough to send me a set of these exquisite new figures by Hornblower Miniatures. So I took a representative selection and painted a few.
They are very much in the style of the Copplestone Barbarica range and clearly designed to fit exactly with those. If anything, the detail and character on these little beauties is even finer than on the Copplestone originals - and an absolute pleasure to paint. Fair to say, I think, that Mathias has out-Copplestoned the Maestro himself (but also that they really work together as one range in terms of look, feel, size and style). A little bit of cleaning up of mould lines involved, but apart from that, these are really exceptional. I enjoyed them so much that I've now prepped the next 10, and am very much looking forward to see what Mathias comes up with next 8)

Comparison with various Copplestone Barbarica figures. As you can see - a perfect match.

Glorious - miniatures and paintwork both!
-
It seems that 15s now are better and more detailed than the 25s of my youth.
-
Blown away by your paintjob on these gals, so great to see them in that barbarian village too!
-
I’ll echo what those guys said - these paint jobs and figures are awesome! By coincidence, my army pack arrived this afternoon and I hope I can get them to look even half as good as these. It’s a very high bar, though :o

Mine still haven't arrived. :-(
And I won't presume I could paint a fraction f the talent here. I just hope to get paint on mine.

So far I have just pawed through them to take a quick look, but from a first glance they’re exactly what I was hoping they would be. It’s a little bit uncanny how close the style is to the Copplestone range, but that’s a very good thing from my perspective! And I ended up ordering a couple packs of Copplestone figures in the same order….
-
North Star's Rich Taylor has started painting the Hornblower range.
-
Excellent painting! I won’t start painting mine until November, but examples like this and Captain Blood’s figures will give me plenty to inspiration.
-
Was the army pack just a pre-order special? Can only find the command and weapon-specific packs at the moment.

They’re beautiful! The vibrant colours you use make them really pop!
-
How's everyone been getting on with their shieldmaidens? Cavalry are thundering down the tundra as we speak!
-
The thunder of hooves!

Looking at your photos always inspires me to push this project on and on!
Many more releases on the horizon :-)
