Thought I would share the progress I have made on my VSF terrain build.
I still have some way to go but it's definitely getting closer to being at a point where I can consider it just about done.

I tried to keep the base of it all so it would also be compatible with my fantasy buildings.

Wow!
Just wow!
This is super impressive, the number of layers/levels and the completeness of the terrain. What materials is it constructed from?
-
WOW - fantastic.
-
Yup, pretty spectacular! I remember some of your early work but had no idea that it would turn out like this.
-
Fantastic! :-*
-
I really want to play at your house!
-
Colour me envious. :o :-* :-*
-
Very impressive 8)
-
We were impressed when trying to suggest 'faces in the windows.'
Consider me ratcheted up to gobsmacked! :-* 8)

Thanks for all the positive encouragement.

Lots of 3D printing in both filament and resin, some balsa wood and card.
Fantastic! :-*
Thanks, It was your VSF buildings from years ago that got me started on this crazyness.

Thanks, I have the birds to add and still need to do washing lines and print out some cats as per your previous suggestion, but they are on the to-do list
-
Looking great! Would make a nice fantasy city too.
-
😻 Beautiful! :o
-
Wow, that’s amazing work!
-
Simply amazing! Worthy of a museum.
-
Absolutely love it! Fantastic work.
-
That is just outstanding and so atmospheric too. Envious and admiring, although both true, barely scratch the surface of my reaction.
-
Extraordinary….I could look at photos of your work for hours. Can we have some more to enjoy, please?
Doug
-
Absolutely stunning! :-* :-*
-
Oh my!
-
Outstanding workmanship, we’ll done!
-
Thanks everyone. I’ll be sure to post some more pictures as this progresses, and also some pictures of my fantasy set up.
-
That’s stunning!
More of the sewer as well please.
-
Thanks for all the positive encouragement.

Though my being burdened with a bit of self-diagnosed aphantasia, shadows of those same posts both encouraged me in humble attempts and discouraged my hubris at the same time... lol

I looked back at the thread, beginning with James' cogent thoughts, and noticed I only put up one post, with a few suggestions, but they did seem to generate some discussion. Glorious sense of community!
As Doug said above, DO keep sharing. Which requires your continued madness!

Holy shit. That looks amazing
-
You are good.
I’m amazed what you can do with a couple of old cornflake boxes lol lol
Keep up the brilliant work. :o :o
-
Amazing work. But you need figures.
-
Magnifique!
-
Most impressive. :o
-
Gorgeous! Magnificent!
-
Thanks once again for all the encouragement.
I have started work on the industrial section of the layout.

I am trying to capture the gloomy feel of City Life in a smog-filled city where the like of Jack the Ripper or worse stalk the dark streets.
Still plenty to do on the industrial part but I am getting there.

You are nailing it my friend.

That looks better than some tv and movie sets… It was pretty amazing without the lighting, but that pushes the envelope!

Thank you.

Thank you. The lights create some really nice shadows.
I made some simple trees up this week. Just twisted wire and milliput with clump foliage stuck on top.

I then thought I would see how it looks with the main light turned off and this is the result.

Lovely shots 8)

Fantastic terrain and beautiful photography ;)
-
Very atmospheric. I believe I can just see Mr. Holmes behind that building on the right.
Now you need a fog machine...

Thank you. Won't be long before the two Aphids you built for me will be patrolling the skies near the aeronef station.
Fantastic terrain and beautiful photography ;)
Thank you, its just taken on my old iphone. It's one of the older model phones and I'm quite happy with how the images came out.

Now you need a fog machine...
Funny you should mention that, I've been eyeing up a mini fog machine with an adaptor to make the fog wide and low. Just trying to figure out where to install it, at the moment I'm leaning towards the sunken road section.
-
Definitely having George Takai's voiced 'Oh, my' in my head...
I would have a bit of concern about fog machines, though I have little experience. Always worried about fog deposition staining the scenery.
Edit: There's another voice, mind you, yelling "That would be so kewl!"

That is outstanding work - some of the best I've seen.
-
I‘m seriously impressed and nonetheless depressed by this. Extraordinarily good work! :-*
-
Amazing terrain.
-
Tis a thing of beauty :-*
-
I finally got around to finishing off the nef station and am pretty happy with the results
I also made up some piles of rubbish to scatter around the place.
Next up I have a Vampire style carriage that I want to install lights into and after that some more lights to the buildings, including a blue light outside the police station maybe.

Appears that I have the privilege of being the first to gush about the new piccies.
Sadly, that's difficult when one is left speechless.

-
Staggeringly beautiful work.
-
Oh for goodness sake - stop it…!😊. This is just too good.
Of course, I don’t mean stop it. I mean let’s have more and more.
Just fantastic.
Doug
-
The lighting is so good. Very thematic.

Thanks for all the nice comments. Well, it's just about time up for this project build. I had to get it finished by the end of the year and I am pretty happy with what's been achieved.
A few more pictures as promised.

Stunningly beautiful! Amazing work! It's the best 19th-century city terrain I've ever seen! Brilliantly done!

I wish I could quit the day job and do that.

It is an incredible build!

Holy Cowabunga!

It has already been said, but this is an incredible project!

Fair dinkum, the further along, another quiet voice (yes, there ARE alot) started questioning if games could be played.
Seeing the table as a whole, maybe by someone a bit more limber than moi. lol
Now that I have done the laughing part, back to weeping at the beauty...

Fair dinkum, the further along, another quiet voice (yes, there ARE alot) started questioning if games could be played.
I completely understand where you are coming from. My idea is that there are basically 4 different zones to the board, the slums, Industrial, Aeronef Port and Market Highstreet. Each Zone can then be used independently for small skirmish games with a mini-campaign of 4 games covering the entire table by the end. I have also kept the taller buildings away from the centre. It's a bit deceptive when you look at it but the actual playing surface is very accessible whilst standing around the table.
I wouldn't want to make the layout any bigger that's for sure as it would get hard to use.
With the base tiles all being modular it can also be broken down into a 4' x 4', which is probably a better size for my Fantasy buildings as I have less of those. It can actually be made even smaller than that and I have plans to use a simple flat 4' x 4' section of basic flagstone tiles as the base for my Gangs of Rome set-up.
That will have to wait for a while though as I have a rather large 6'x15' project to work on now.

WOW :o :o
Incredible stuff! Sorry if I’m issued this in a prior thread (did have a look back) but how did you make the roads and pavements, texture rollers, 3d print etc? Cheers

Thank you.
It’s 3D printed.

REMARKABLE, would to be possible to see more pics? I'd be very interested to see what you have going on underneath those buildings. Looks like catacombs or sewers?
-
Thank you
More pictures can be found on my project blog here

There are indeed sewers beneath the layout although at the moment only the ones around the edges of the board and a few inside have been completed.
-
Thanks for the link, truly EPIC!

Doug
Didn't make myself clear; I meant I could see it as playable. I merely will point out, in my seventh decade, NOT the new fifties, I find leaning over any table for a full session a challenge.
Sorry to have to explain.
Thank you.
It’s 3D printed.
While we simpler folk try to make do with Lemax... ;)

Just caught up with this @Rabbitz, and I can only echo what others have said: a stunning build and deeply impressive.
-
Holy smokes! That is one of the nicest boards I've seen! Absolutely top tier! :-*
-
my goodness, amazing. :-* o_o
