Will finalise which idea is to be my build as soon as possible.
-
Good luck.
-
Thanks has.been, you too.
Along with everyone else of course.
So roughly, I'm looking at Hagrid's Hut on AT-AT legs...... or something similar.
Away from home for a few more days so will put up some rough sketches in the coming days to, hopefully, solidify the build in my head.
-
This is something I have wanted to build since discovering Sheelba Of The Eyeless Face. I'll now spend a bit of time living vicariously...
-
Your idea is giving me Baba Yaga vibes, looking forward to seeing what you make of it :)

At least it is not on Chubby Baby Legs. lol lol lol
-
Never heard of Sheelba before but have added the Hut to my list of inspiration now.
Baba Yaga I had heard of and this build will be similar but, hopefully, individual enough in itself.
At least it is not on Chubby Baby Legs. lol lol lol
Possibly not quite that individual though :D
-
After Aircav's detailed CAD work, here's my less technical build plan.

It may not be CAD, but it is still more preparation than I have done, or probably will do. :D

This.
I haven't even got a thread lol

So some cutting, sanding and gluing has occurred over the past couple of days to start getting the legs done; some wooden beads, chopsticks and clothes pegs for the feet.

Don't take this the wrong way, but... those knees look how mine feel. lol
-
I like how this is moving along. Nothing like the chubby baby legs that I envisioned.
-
Really liking this start, and the difference already between these legs and the cool kitbashed legs in Snitchy's project!

Yeah, I just bodge stuff together and hope for the best - a bit of Bob Ross's happy little accidents are my friends.
Everyone else seems to have a more measured approach.
Wasn't sure how to do the walls of the hut regarding window and door placements but finally came up with using EVA crafting foam as you can glue anything to it.
Plan is to put in the windows and doors and then attach the outer and inner walls on, sandwiching the foam - fingers crossed, eh?

Anyone worth their salt quotes Bob Ross. Looks like you have worked out a good plan and it is nice to see something other than right angles. i never managed to move past that point. lol
-
Curves are hard lol

The original image I had has morphed slightly over the past week as it felt what I made would nit fit easily with the other terrain I've got; I want a slightly dilapidated forest cottage/hut that looks like it's erupted from the ground - as such the legs will need to be either reworked or replaced and, at the moment, I'm not quite sure where I'm going with it.
In amongst those of you can plan, measure, cad/cam and cut straight exist a few who just chaotically problem solve each stage, hoping what's done in previous stages doesn't hinder the latter too much.
I'm firmly in camp B.
Windows made from food cartons are best fitted with tape so long as you're covering them later - cross pieces from cardstock as its nice and easy to work with
Foam sheets are great building for flexible shapes but not for other things, rigidity being one of them.
Coffee stirrers are great for adding rigidity but don't lend themselves to curving around a building. I know I could have put them upright but my minds eye build had horizontal planking.
I first tried thick card with the planking lines and wood textured carved in but it looked awful and didn't bend well.
Finally settled on thin card, textured to look like wood then cut into planking and glued on - this is quite a time consuming process that I will never do again!!!!!

I've also decided that I want an outbuilding accessed by a path and an upstairs that is not seen or accessed in the build, except by the presence of dormer windows sticking out of the thatch.
So there's a few more bits to plan before I can build - then just the interior decoration and furniture to build before painting it all.
-
In the first pic I thought it was going to be a bit flimsy but it looks pretty solid now and works well with the legs.
-
I do like the rounded walls. Your planking worked out very well. Sorry to hear it was a pill to do as it does look solid.
-
That planking has come up looking amazing.
-
I'm firmly in camp B.
One of us, one of us! Well, one like me anyway :)
Looking great sofar

A great looking build.

You could add clumps of earth, roots and whatnot to the legs, so it looks like it was sitting for a long time buried in the dirt under the house.

We are definitely thinking along the same lines.
Here's today's greenstuff and milliput work.

Very neat idea. It will really bulk up the legs and add some visual interest.
-
Love the legs! It is exactly what I was hoping to do in a smaller size for a walking droid or bot...
I will file away your excellent take on it in my mind for future projects! :D

Thank you, here's the next instalment.
Greenstuff and milliput work on legs completed, smaller roots to be added when remainder of the leg section is completed.

I have also added the path to the outhouse in tongue depressors with foam sheet stonework carved with pencil.

Fancy flushie that wizard has! lol
This is looking very cool so far, looking forward to seeing more progress.
-
Wow. A flushing toilet with paper. A wizards home indeed.
-
Brilliant!
-
After nearly 3 weeks of other stuff stopping progress I've finished the legs section today, rocks, roots and mud.

I love it, looks like it's just emerged from the ground.

Dam that's nice!

That is looking so good!

Those legs are...outstanding! lol

Loving these details.
-
Very nice work so far. Very cool.
-
Yeah, its the little touches that bring it to life...as it were...
-
Chimney and dormer window made from bits of wood, foam sheet and card while roof thatching from string cut into sections and separated into 2 or 3 strands before gluing on.
That was a long job.
Just the painting now.

Using twine for coarse thatching is a great idea; I don't doubt it was tedious, but I think the end result is worth it.
-
Top notch.
-
That look unkept...almost like it's alive, I love it.
-
Yes, very much a "living" thing. The painting and detailing is going to be key to continue the great work you've done so far. Looking forward to it!!

Last bits done prior to painting and assembly, made some books from card and jars from beads and milliput then primed them.
Wanted to make this 100% scratchbuilt but, after a few attempts to build a ships wheel (how else would a wizard steer a walking house?), I'm using a bought one.

Purdy dam cool! Can't wait to see this entry complete.

Those are wonderful little details.

Great work. :)

The ships wheel as a steering device for the house makes the already amazing look even better :)

Couldn't resist one last bit when painting the interior, have used a photograph of one of my wife's embroidered pictures for over the mantelpiece, shrunk to scale and framed obviously.

Love this. The picture will make it :)
