Title: Ottoman Empire
Post by: Khmorg on 23 February 2025, 11:29:41 AM
Ottoman Empire. 16th century.
Spahis, also known as sipahis, are the elite cavalry of the nobility, 6 horses and 12 riders. Spears are separate, the holes for the spears are walled up for casting.

These look very nice indeed!  :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

It would be great if the miniatures armed with pistols could have "arm/hand swaps" for swords/spears as this would make them useful for the Late 15th CE- this would definitely be a bonus to your range as there are literally no full Ottoman ranges for the Late 15th CE out there.

Which leads me onto my next question, do you have plans to fully expand the range to include Akinjis, Delhis, Spahis of the Porte, Azabs and Janissaries etc?

And finally, what of the above would be usable in a Late 15th CE Medieval Ottoman army please?

Thanks :)

Now in production are arrows from firearms tüfekci. But the muskets will be flint (not matchlock)

In the future there will be temriots, (cavalry in the 17th century),

1. Akinci - cavalry of local formations (peasant militias,)

2. Deli - translated as madmen.

3. Crimean Tatars

4. Janissaries

6. Levendy mercenary detachments.

7. Seimens, they are also sekbans (analogous to dragoons, I will make mounted ones in shooting 12 figures and 6 horses)

8. Sipahi - Asian

9. Azaps. Youth with bows 12 figures

10. Artillerymen 12 figures

11. Officers (sultans, agas, etc.) 12 figures (6 mounted, 6 foot)

12. group of attackers with cold weapons.

the list is not complete. Additions are quite possible

;-)

Ottoman Empire 17th century. Sipahis timariots
This type of cavalry was the most widespread in the Ottoman Empire.
The entire land fund of the empire (miri) was divided taking into account tax revenues (reya) for feeding different sizes - timars, zeamets and hassas.
Timar complained to representatives of the military class of the Sultan's charter. Timar could not be sold - but could be easily lost by not fulfilling the terms of service.

This work presents western sipahis - timariots. 6 horses and 12 riders were made.

What was the length of the lances? I'm just adding some to 28mm Sipahi and suspect mine are a bit long...

I think that the length of the pikes was calculated for the enemy. Western Timariots were oriented towards the armies of their western neighbors.

I think that the pike was comparable to the length of the pikes of the Polish hussars.
At least I took the information from this image. If I cast these figures in metal, then for me it is better if they are short pikes. Then they can be replaced with pikes of any length made of steel (I use office pikes)

Thanks. That's a useful image. I've seen a bit of variety in length but the length of that one suggest the ones I'd fitted weren't too long after all. I may trim them a little for storage reasons as my figures have them upright...

Good luck getting the range cast. It's going to be rather impressive.

Great sculpts, love the Janissaries! Especially the one resting his matchlock over his right shoulder.
My favourite army is the Ottoman Turks of the Napoleonic wars, for which many of these would be ideal.

If it weren't for silly things like national borders and geo-politics, I can imagine you would never want for work, manufacturers would be queueing up to give you commissions.

I do have one suggestion, for when you do the guard cavalry, eg Silhitars, Sipahi Oglans, perhaps some on standing horses or lightly walking ones, not just the charging ones. Most of the time such units just stand around looking menacing until that one final charge.
(Apologies if you've done these already and I haven't seen them way back in the thread)

Thank you very much for the kind words.
Your messages inspire me.

I'm currently working on some artillerymen, then generals and officers.
Then some civilians. As a sculptor, this is very interesting to me.

If my colleagues are interested, I'll make a few figurines of standing Sipahis.

I have a lot of plans. But in a month it will be cold, and my equipment won't be working until May. I'll continue sculpting, but not casting metal.

I lost some photos when the forum moved, but that's okay. These photos are still on my computer, and I'll be able to publish them again gradually.

Once again they look so good. Are the different crews designed to look like they are from different parts of the ottoman empire or are they interchangeable?
