Hello all USA LAFers! I just picked up three great vehicles from Rite Aid Pharmacy. They are metal body with plastic interior and under body made in China. They were $5 a piece. Here are some pictures with the DC heroeclix Harley Quinn (28mm) and a Ral Partha Shadowrun figure (25mm).

Yes they do. Colors I saw was black, red and yellow.
-
Durn! No Rite aids anywhere near me....I wonder who else carries them?
-
What is the name of the manufacturer of the models?
-
Someone willing to get me a red and a yellow hummer and post it out? (I'll paypal you).
PM me please.

Nice! I need a mail truck. Thanks for the tip.
-
I believe the maker is Kinsmart. The Hummer is marked 1/40 scale, but is very close in size to a 1/43 Motormax Humvee I have. I'd be happy to pick a couple up and post them if you like. I can't guarantee red or yellow though. The only ones I've seen in those colors were the Hummer truck, not the SUV. SUVs were black and white. I'm planning to check a couple Rite Aids in another town this weekend, maybe I'll find what you're looking for there.
Let me know if alternate colors are acceptable.

--- Must be nice, because they're no where to be found in any of the Walgreens & CVS stores here in Augusta, Georgia.
I went to every Rite Aid store in the area and found only 2 Hummers at the right scale. Both white. Bought one.
The hunt for the yellow hummer continues.
-
The ones I have look about 1/40, they are from a Chinese toy maker and they seem to be not very scale conscious. All of them have rubber band motors.
I should have mentioned that the Postal van is from a Chinese street vendor who also sells a yellow "short" bus and full sized school bus. They are about 1/40 but of slightly cheaper manufacture than the Rite Aid vehicles. You need to check them because they occasionally have imperfections in the paint application.
If some needs any of these you can PM me.

Says the man intent on buying up every bloody BSG related copy resin piece out there! And you're giving me grief about a couple of dollar store hummers? You bummer! lol

Kudos to Kidterminal for starting this thread! ;)
Here are some pictures of Rite Aid Cars I picked up today:

The figure is an Artizan Submarine Commander (the closest thing to a Fire Chief that I had on hand...)

This hot rod says 1/34 on the bottom but it doesn't seem that much larger than the others. The figure is a converted Heroclix Ben Daimyo
One thing to note: Cars that were tagged $5.99 on the shelf (the larger cars) still rang up at $4.99 at the register (score!).

Damn Heldrak you've bested me with those two!! Now I'm going to have to hit the really big Rite Aid and the Walgreens with NYC licensed fire trucks and cop cars! Stay tuned for more sweet vehicles.

Heldrak I consider this car to be way out of scale. Its as tall as the Hummer and it's a roadster!!! This is (in my opinion) the problem with 70% pf the cars sold at these pharmacies.

Scales really are all over the map with these-
The Fire Chief's car says 1/40 scale on the bottom but it seems to scale fine with the 1/43s. The Corvette and the Coupe both say 1/34 scale underneath, but the Coupe is the one that's really noticeable.
I got these for possible use with Atomic Cafe 1957 (if I ever get around to it) and I thought that the oversized Coupe might come in handy if I get a Brute (essentially an ogre-sized model).
I thought the Cadillacs looked a little small in the store, but they seem to scale up pretty well against the figures now that I have them at home.

This is a cheap toy maker and I don't think they really care what size they are when the design them. Yeah the fire chief is great but a little big. The Cadillacs & Hummers are the best for scale from the Rite Aid stuff I've seen. The Postal Van scales well with them too. I know its kind of fruitless by I like the get my vehicles to look right next to each other. Are you in NYC Heldrak? If you are I can point out some out of the way stores for this stuff.

Is Rite Aid anything like Flavor Aid? If so I'll have 20 kilos delivered to my jungle hideout in Guyana.

what about this?

Nah, I'm in metropolitan Detroit. I feel the same way you do about scale, though. I like everything to be internally consistent on the tabletop scale-wise (often manufacturer-wise, if I can help it). I'll be interested in seeing those NYC Police & Fire vehicles if you decide to add them to your collection.
-
what about this?
I've got that one and a Rite-Aid police Hummer. The police Hummer is a tad too big, but the mcdonalds one is a tad too small. Although the Happy meal one will likely get more use from me. I couldn't find any of the classic cars at my rite-aids. However, my local train store carries true-scale 1/43 del prados for 5.99. That Corvette is way too big though.
-
My original intent in getting some Rite Aid vehicles was to stock up for Atomic Cafe 1957 (if I ever get around to it). Since then, I've been bitten by the Pulp City bug and I realized that I would need some vehicles for my Supers to chuck at each other. That being the case...:
The aforementioned Police Hummer (with Copplestone Detective for scale):
Civilian Hummer (with Heroclix Ben Daimyo making a return appearance):
All the other modern cars I saw there today looked a little big in scale (1/38, 1/30 etc.).
-
Thgey all look too big to me, horses for courses and all that though :?
-
Grrrr The Rite Aid by me had these up front by the counter and I kept telling myself that I would pick some up next time I was up there, well went in to actually get some and they no longer had them. I really wanted to get one of the VW vans with the white sides and blue top to turn into a Dharma Initiative VW van from Lost. Also wanted to pick up some of the Police Cars and Ambulances they also had. I might try the other Rite Aid about a mile down the road in the opposite direction.
-
My son has the police Hummer. When he's outgrown it you can be sure it will show up on the Tabletop!

i didn't noticed that, but sadly i think you are right:

Given the ground clearance of a Hummer (and the fact that you practically need a ladder to get into one), those look alright to me. In addition to height, the main thing I look at when determining appropriate scale is "Does it look like the figure would fit comfortably behind the wheel as driver" and on that basis, these look OK to me.
-
I agree with Heldrak they look the part even though they are a tad large. Now if you've stood next to one in real life you'd know that this it the right feel. Those things are seem huge and I'm 6'7". lol
Saw a nice sized police cruiser at a Duane Reade will post a pic if its still there when I go back this weekend.
Rob
-
See? I'm 5' 9" and they seem perfectly in scale..! ;)
-
I went to a new and different Rite Aid today and they had a significantly different stock of cars:
1962 Volkswagen Bus (with Hasslefree Wolsey/Not-Shaggy)
1955 Chevy Nomad (with Artizan Sky Pirate)
1953 Ford Crestline Sunliner (with our own Professor Witcheimer)
Modern Police Car (with Pulp Figures Detective)
1955 Ford Thunderbird (with Artizan Ernest Hemmingway)
I know, I know, they're all too large... ::) ::) ::)

Yep, NotShaggy looks like an eight year old next to the VW camper, but still, those are nice looking PJs you have there, good job that señor.
-
Yes... take a 28mm miniature with you... not all the vehicles are the same scale. Some are way too big and some are too small but many look great.

Yes all the 1/40 cars are way too big. Thought I do use the 1/40 Hummer because it's supposed to look big. The 1/40 pickup trucks look too large as well. They do sell some 1/43 cars, which are a good size.
Rob

Even the oversized vehicles can have uses. I bought the VW to armor it up and use as a post apoc vehicle. Hopefully, when I'm done, you won't be able to tell it's a VW rather than a large school/passenger bus.

Interesting! Please post a picture here when you've finished it.

Because they are so cheap, you can also use the larger/smaller vehicles as scrap!

Heh I have that van and it is actually 1/32 according to the text on the bottom ;)

New Chrysler PT Cruiser from Duane Reade! It's 1/43 scale. (For you in the rest of the country is should be in Walgreens. They bought out Duane Reade recently to they will have all their suppliers.)

The Foundry pirate is 28mm to the eye.

Chrysler PT Cruiser 1/43 with Hummer 1/40 next to Heroclix Harley 30mm to the eye.
Please note the Postal Van is actually 1/43 scale not 1/40th. There is no scale listed on the underside of the vehicle but it scales up correctly with the caddy 1/43 and the PT Cruiser 1/43.

So what happened to all these offers of hummers I got then?
PM me people!
-
Went up the the Rite Aid nearest to me to see if they happened to have the vehicles back in. They did. I picked up two hummers (one Red and one Yellow), the Mail Truck and a Black Police Cruiser (Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor).
Commander Sorry but you cant have my hummers, the yellow one is currently in repaint so that it will now be black.
-
Can you post a shot of the Camper from the other side please?
-
Last time I checked (a couple weeks ago), the local Rite Aid stores had switched to 1/25th cars. I'd be happy to re-check them, but as I mentioned above, my local stores didn't have red or yellow. I think black and white were the option. If any alternate color is acceptable, I need to know before I buy.
-
All sorted now cheers
And heresy painting over the yellow one with anything other than a big number three on each side!
;)
-
@Commander- I wanted to get a black one for a Corporate Black Ops Para-Military unit to use in my ATZ Campaigns but unfortunately they didn't have any, so had to settle with a different color and repaint it. I do plan on getting another Yellow and painting a #3 on it to go with the Studio Miniatures Ohio figure that I plan on getting.
I also am hoping to be able to pick up a couple more of the Hummers in Black along with a VW Mini Bus or three, one will be repainted like the DHARMA Initiative Mini Bus from LOST. Another will be repainted for use as a News Van. I also want another one of the Mail Trucks, repaint it to look like an innocent Dept. of Public Works (the Undercover van used by the local Police or FBI team).
Unfortunately most the other vehicles they had at the local Rite Aid were either the larger 1/24th scale ones or didn't fit what I was looking for when I was up there, though I will most likely be getting some of the more modern looking cars they have.
