Thought i'd share some of the work that is going into one of the Frothers games for Salute 2011
The challenge is to produce a tabletop wargame that can capture the spirit of a fastflowing PC/console based first person shooter game.
As a whole bunch of us have been playing Battlefield Bad Company 2, Arica Harbour seemed like a good place to start.
The table, once completed, will be 8'x4', with buildings that are "destroyable" during the game.
The rules, will be a variant of my zombie rules (AKULAs RULES : SKIRMISH EDITION) - in this case "BAD AR:SE"
lol
I won't bombard you with photos, but the table has gone from:

to:
There are more WIP Photos etc on my blog.

Ooh great game and the board looks like it's taking shape. This is a thread I shall follow with great interest.
-
Great start! This is going to be good!
-
Woah... :o
-
I'm curious... what scale you are using?
-
I'm curious... what scale you are using?
28mm minis, with 1/55th vehicles.
-
Most impressive.
-
Nice map you chose and brilliant work so far. I really disliked the game for all the reasons stated in the Zero Punctuation Review (Can be found at escapistmagazine.com), but that map was my favourite of them all. Looking forward to seeing the progress.
-
This looks really good, would love to see a battle report once it´s up and running.
-
Looking really good Akula :)
Will look out for it at Salute.
-
Bout time you posted this up here and not just Frother's. How have you got on with the collapsable buildings mate?
-
I've spent quite a bit of time at Arica Harbour myself. 8)
Your rendition is a dead ringer. Fantastic work!
Bout time you posted this up here and not just Frother's. How have you got on with the collapsable buildings mate?
I'd like to hear about those buildings as well.

Quite, the rarified atmoshphere of Frothers doesn't agree with many especially the young and eager, and you're one of the best hobbyists around...
-
i love this game!!!!! very nice board!
-
Good one Akky!
Hope you make it in time :)

Well one of them of course.... ;)
It's also getting very stale over there of late to be honest to Phil, and more nit picky than ever.
Anyway hurah for LAF and dob't forget to pm me your postal address mate.

Alright then, some more photos.....first up, the table, from start to finish.
The map posted again, for reference.

Lengthwise, looking down the table, as per the map:

Additional thicknesses of polysterene used to build up the perception of different levels. 5mm Foamboard used to front the raised concrete areas

Boards were then covered in a tertron filler/PVA Glue mix, then another coat of glue/fine sand, before basecoat colours were added.

Additional "highlights" drybrushed on, before sealing the boards with varnish.

From an alternate angle, to give more of n idea of the height differential, and the raised areas:

Overall, the board is meant to be very sparse, in terms of vegetation - I will be adding some separate trees, and bushes (for snipers to hide in), but other foliage is very minimal - some silflor was added, after the boards were sealed, in areas where any surface water might have accumulated.

Right, buildings!
In Battlefield Bad Company 2, the buildings, can be destroyed by weapons fire - the exterior walls go first, and then the core, leading to a final collapse. The show this in the game, the exterior walls on each floor are freestanding - I tried various different methods of pegs, magnets etc on the test model, but in the end, settled upon corner sections. Each floor therefore can demonstrate 4 levels of damage (ie 4 cornered sections of walls to remove), before the final collapse - where the entire building is replaced by a ruined section.
You also need to be able to remove the roof, for fighting inside the buildings, and the inner walls must be able to support the roof freestanding.....simples! :D
Single storey test model

Three-storey "building site"
This last one, doesn't need to be "destroyable" in the game - its made of a concrete core, and steel girders, and can't be collapsed.

But WOW does that look great! :-* :-*

Lovely table there, I fancy a ganders at these rules to lol excellent work as ever I'm going to the blog now for a closer look.
Thanks for sharing
Steve
-
I fancy a ganders at these rules too
I'll put the rules on my blog - free to download, once the final draft is completed. I'm still incorporating ideas from the Frothers Battlefield project group into a revised draft at the moment.
:)
Quick Update:
Got some foliage done for the snipers to skulk behind.
Trees are Woodland Scenics placcy branches, with their "dead" foliage, mounted on coins to give a bit of weight to the bases.
The bushes are a rush job - just hedge row clipped to size, and then manipulated.
Not too much is actually needed, for the table - if I have time, I might add a couple of palm trees, and there were a couple dotted around the settlement.
-
Had a little time to mess about with details while I was waiting for stuff to dry - none of the following is strictly necessary for the game, but I just fancied adding a few bits and bobs.
:D
Sewage outflow pipe.

Loving this :)
-
That's looking very good :-* 8)
I like the concept for the buildings :)
cheers
James
-
Thanks, I'll check them out once there up. Once again its one lovely table. Excellent work.
-
This is awesome :D
Play Bad company 2 a lot myself. I wonder if when you start playing the game, everyone will just use snipers and stick them on the outskirts of the map, whilst the poor sods without an uber scoped gun have to hide in the buildings dodging mortar fire?
Ah good times.
Though I admit, I am really liking the Vietnam patch, less UAVs! Damnation to UAVS!
Anyway, will look forward to see you guys play a game on this one!
-
just found this and must say...holy shit...that is AWESOME :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Love the game and also like that map the most.
Cant wait for more (man I wish I lived near you's)
-

Most of the Frothers that will be turning up for the game at Salute are BF:BC2 players, so will be interesting, but I suspect different tactics will come into play, as in the online game....squads of medics reviving each other etc
The rules will encourage a balanced squad approach though.
:)
-
Ah, it will be interesting to see some sort of games review.
As for the snipers, I just remembered those times when me and my mates ended up storming the hills around the town talking jibberish down mic's whilst trying to clear out enclaves of hedges.
What minis are you going to use for it? I know Empress do some really nice Americans, and Red Star do Russians. Empress even stock Imprint Models now so you can get your hands on T-90s and Abrams.

whatever people turn up with....players will bring their own squads along, but i've got some Empress, Mongrel and Red Star sitting on my paint table, along with an Imprint T-90, and a Hobbymaster Abrams.
:)
Couple of hours spare this afternoon, so made a couple of collapsed houses.
Method One
The internal walls give a little height, so I can show the upper floor, caved in.
Method Two
Basically a lump of loft insulation foam, with stuff stuck on it.
The best bit is that both were made using leftovers from the other buildings, so basically didn't cost a penny - I'll use a combination of the two types, although the former is probably closest to the multi-level collapses in the game.
:D
(http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh72/AKULADEEP/Battlefield%20Bad%20Company%202/P1050315.jpg)
-
Nicely done - both methods work.
-
Personally I like it best when there is some left over of the corners, since that is the most stable part of a construction and thus tends to last the longest. Yours do work tough, they have a real feeling of mass, they look like there is enough stuff for a house, more or less.
-

Yeah, I did think about that, however, it would probably look a bit odd to keep some corners, as, in the context of the game, the exterior walls (including corners) get destroyed, before a final collapse - life is full of compromises.... :D
-
Both look good, but i think Method One fits better with the game. It's always fun hiding in them ruins killing people
-
Bit more time today
Started work on the bus - as with the buildings, you need to be able to get figures inside, so the bodywork will be separate from the base.
Also started work on some signs for the minefield - did I mention the minefield before ;) - need grubbying up still.
and still had time to do another collapsed building
(http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh72/AKULADEEP/Battlefield%20Bad%20Company%202/P1050319.jpg)
:D
-
Looking fantastic! :-*
You're doing a whale of a job on this table!
-
Cheers - still a lot more to do before Salute though.....
:)
-
yeah mate you'll really doing the game board justice. Are you going through to the harbour??
Btw my gamer tag is TagSlayer if anyone wants to be friends :-)
-
yeah mate you'll really doing the game board justice. Are you going through to the harbour??
Thanks - ultimately if people that play the game look at the table, and go "that's Arica Harbour", then thats perfect!
:D
Tempted to do the harbour, but 8'x4' is all I can manage for Salute (April), and all I can fit in my car.
Basically its a slightly cropped version of the deathmatch map, ie
(http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh72/AKULADEEP/Battlefield%20Bad%20Company%202/AricaHarbour-2.jpg)
-
good points ( I should have read it more carefully ::))
Guess you'll have enough to do with that size board
-

Guess you'll have enough to do with that size board
no worries :D
Slight change from the game - each player will control a squad of 4 figures, rather than a single character - the thinking being that the "respawn" would look odd in a tabletop context. Games will hopefully be quick and bloody, not too much skulking on the edge of the board trying to mortar everyone else.....
Each side will therefore have 2-3 squads on table at any one time, so the table should be big enough for 6 players, plus 24 figures.
-
Impressive speed, Akky! :-*
But I was hoping for the Heavy Metal stage lol
-
lol
The bus is pretty much done - although I might patch up the righthand side of the first photo, before varnishing  and add some silfor, but that is about it.

and have started on another two-storey building....

crap you'll have this finished by next week at this stage lol :D
was playing this tonight (till 4 this morning in fact) and actually got stuck inside that bus ::)
-

I wish!
Still plenty to do - buildings will take a lot of time to build, and then when they are done, i've still to paint them.
Ironically, haven't been on the game (xbox version) for a while - if I do, it will be taking up valuable building time.....
-
Today's update:
Pretty much finished the 4th building - just needs a chimney:
a two-storey job, just a big box really - added a couple of stone fireplaces to this one (useful to hold up the ceilings!) made out of foam.
I made the second floor fractionally smaller, on this building, for a bit of variety - put on the table in a rush, for the photo, it does fit together...honest...
Hopefully its beginning to look like a small town...or at least a partially destroyed one....
Unfortunately back to work tommorrow, but have got a long weekend, so hopefully will get a bit more done then.
:D
-
I´m stunned.
Great work. :o
-
very little to report, since Tuesday - being back at work brought a temporary halt to construction - on the plus side i've got Monday off, as I needed to use up last years holiday allowance.
In the meantime, the citizens of Arica Harbour have applied for town status, having constructed their second sewage outflow pipe, and being able to boast the makings of a town refuse tip (still obviously a WIP, needs some more castoffs - think i've got a 4Dmodels telly somewhere that would fit in nicely).

Making replacement rubble for the starting Intact buildings as they get blown to pieces?
-
Making replacement rubble for the starting Intact buildings as they get blown to pieces?
nope, because in the BF:BC2 game, the blown up walls pretty much disappear, until there are none left, and then the whole building collapses (at which point the building gets replaced by the rubble templates i've shown above.
-
Another two-storey building started - similar design to the last one (ie using a fireplace for support) - gaps will get filled in later on.
and, as I was getting bored of staring at white foamboard, have painted the first building:

1/56th Hobbymaster (die cast)
:)
-
Great stuff. Really like this project! Makes me sad I won't be visiting Salute.
-
No time to get anything done last weekend, but this is what i've painted this afternoon (apologies for the yellow glare on the photos):
A pair of Hobbymaster 1/56th Abrams, and a pair of Fenris 1/55th Humvees (have added a gun shield out of plasticard, and a .50cal from my bits box, to the latter)
In both instances i've tried to paint one as a damaged version - still a bit of a WIP, as I haven't decided if I want to add a bit more grime, and I need to do some more work to the wheels and tracks.
:D
and yes, I know i've just repainted a sandy coloured tank, with sandy coloured paint....

Very nice paint job :-*.
Lets hope the Abrams driver has a squad covering him if he chooses to go down the road! RPG alley down there!
Nice to see that progress hasn't come to a standstill, its a very awesome looking project.
Though I was playing BFBC2 a mo ago, the new maps they have (the large Map with the wind farm, and the Desert/Urban map beside a large river) look like other cool alternatives actually have a bash on, shame they are just so big though!
As for Modern figs go, I am still holding out for Empress to release their British soldiers in the new Osprey armour, been waiting for some decent Modern British Army figs for years, TAG was just never to my taste.
-
Some better photos, as the last lot were rubbish....

Lovely stuff.
You got all the troops sorted out Matt paintwises?
-
good to see more work, vehicles look good as does the building
-
You got all the troops sorted out Matt paintwises?
Nope.
:D
Its up to players to bring along a squad - you can field a squad of 4 figures, but as there are 4 classes of soldier - Assault, Engineer, Recon and Medic, its possible to turn up with 16 figures (ie 4 of each class) and rotate them for each game.
I will have a few squads done by Salute, but my focus is upon the terrainbuild.
-
Outstanding stuff there mate, can't wait to see this for real at SALUTE,,,, A+++++++++
-
Nope.

I might just grace the table with a squad then.... ;)
-
The more the merrier - couple of requests though:
Each figure must be recognisable as one of the 4 classes:
Assault - assault rifle + Grenade Launcher
Engineer - SMG + rocket launcher
Recon - sniper rifle
Medic -LMG
Each figure needs to have a 90 degree arc indicated on the front of the base - either by shading the front quarter of the base, or a couple of red dots - this last is vital for the game, as, amongst other things, it governs whether figures can be despatched swiftly with a knife.... ;)

No problems, should be easy to sort out.

This week's update:
:D
Got a bit more done, after getting back from the York show, and having a game, with the mini-Akkies.
The other two concrete shell structures are built, just need to add some steps, and paint them.
Have a few more rubble templates on the go, as "insurance", to ensure all of the building templates are covered - can build 3 or 4 in the time it takes to make a single storey building.
At least there are a few buildings on table now:
Who knows, I might even get some figures painted.....
-
Looking good mate.
Just working out a squad for salute mysefl :D
-
That stuff's a beaut. :-*
-
This just keeps getting better and better!
-
^^ what he said :D
-
It turns out that the reason that the terrain in the part of Chile, that the Arica Harbour Battlefield map is based upon, is so arid, is due to soil erosion, caused by GOATS.
When I learnt this, it seemed appropriate that Goat Boy, or muchacho de la cabra as he is known locally, make an appearence on table.
(http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh72/AKULADEEP/Battlefield%20Bad%20Company%202/P1050416-1-1.jpg)(http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh72/AKULADEEP/Battlefield%20Bad%20Company%202/P1050419-1.jpg)
Steders in his Recon outfit, for the Battlefield game - he misheard them when they said Recon troopers wear a ghillie suit......
The shaded area on the base, is for the game, relating to line of sight. The Thompson SMG, and Goatboy mini, are both from Hasslefree.
and here is Steders, with the rest of his squad.....

Managed to grab a bit of time today, and here is the result:
5 rubble templates painted - rough but ready - hopefully they look alright.
a couple of wrecked cars
(http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh72/AKULADEEP/Battlefield%20Bad%20Company%202/P1050466.jpg)
and have built a couple more vehicles ready for priming - in this case Imprint Models 1/50th Bradley, and T-90 MBT - lovely crisp castings, and easy to assemble.
:D
-
been waiting for a update :-)
ruins look good, have recently brought 3 kits from imprint and have to agree they are lovely models.
-
:-*
Looking good!
You seem to be on time line for Salute. Should be a great table when finished!
-
A couple more hours today, and managed to get two more buildings built - just little details like the chimney pots to add, seal them with filler, and then paint.
Two-storey Building:
Have gone with the top floor being 6mm smaller, to let the tops of the ground floor exterior walls secure the top floor walls in place - the chimney on the upper floor, is intentionally slightly off centre, to allow a better fit for the exterior walls (there is no reason why the chimney couldn't be at a slight angle between floors).
Single Storey Building:
The fireplace helps to support the roof, when the exterior walls have been removed.
Wide angle shot:
The two new buildings are on the left-hand side of the photo.
-
Looking very nice Matt.
-
You gone to have a drone?
-
You gone to have a drone?
you mean, a UAV?
eventually - Salute will just be mainly infantry, with a couple of tanks/hummers.
-

Maisto makes a nice Predator drone. Had a few for a few things. 1 on a flying stand. 1 for on the ground in a hanger or something. And 1 to demolish as a crashed drone for a recovery objective. :-)
Grimm
-
Cheers Grimm, but the UAV in Battlefield, is a small unmanned helicopter - perhaps not correct, in terms of kit, but more the look I'm after.
:)
Will get myself a small scale helo at some point.
-
a tiny loach would look the biz for the UAV i think :)

-
Really excellent work Akula, looking forward to seeing it at Salute.

Maybe a 6mm helicopter as the base model for a 28mm UAVcopter?
GHQ make amazingly detailed 6mm vehicles:
OH-6A Cayuse

MD 500 Defender
http://www.ghqmodels.com/store/ac12.html
Defender w/ rotor sight:
http://www.ghqmodels.com/store/ac14.html
We playtested Mein Panzer modern a bunch with a friend's GHQ Bundeswehr & Russian Airborne 1980s/WW3 forces years back. I've seen 28mm vehicles sold with less detail than the GHQ 6mm stuff!
-
Akky, it looks great!
Have you considered using magnets for holding the walls together? :)
-
Your Table looks really great. :o Actually I might steal the idea of removable walls. Can you tell me what material you used for the walls? The final product looks really great.
-
Have you considered using magnets for holding the walls together? :)
Yup - tried various solutions on the test model, including magnets. The free-standing option works best for me, and is cheaper.
Can you tell me what material you used for the walls?
3mm foamboard, with the edges sealed with glue/filler. A light coating of watered down filler over all the surfaces also helps with rigidity.
-
Cheers Grimm, but the UAV in Battlefield, is a small unmanned helicopter
Oh lol i was not aware that you were trying to do from the video game. Thought it was just a title. I mean, it isnt like you explained that in the very first post and sentence.
But i see the UAV in question. Looks like a small R/C toy helicopter to me.
Should be easy enough to simulate. :-)
Grimm

Yeah, i'm sorry Grimm, I didn't explain that until the second sentence
lol
-
GZG has some nice proxies mate, might work for UAV?
Glad you like the imprint vehicles, very nice casts and not too far from old stomping grounds! ;)
-
Another couple of quick paintjobs - first up, and Imprint Models T-90 MBT:
Second, an Imprint Models Bradley:
-
looking good mate, really coming together nicely
-
This weekends update:
First up, a couple more wrecked vehicles, to inhabit the Arica Harbor parking lot.
Second, i've built a couple more buildings:
They are both smaller, than the other single storey buildings (the base is the standard 6" square), and are designed for the spaces, where two buildings are side by side, on the table.
no update would be complete without the shot of the table so far
(http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh72/AKULADEEP/Battlefield%20Bad%20Company%202/P1050488.jpg)
Next on the construction side, will be a couple more two-storey buildings, and then I might have a go at some portacabins.
-
:-*
Wow!
Coming along really fine. Awesome table!
-
I thought i'd have a go at making a portacabin today.
The steps are attached to the base, but the cabins are loose - the idea being, to switch them, when they get damaged - unlike the other buildings in the game, the portacabins can be damaged (ie have the walls blown out), but won't be collapsable.
The palm trees are from ebob, but not yet available to buy, from his shop.
-
This is looking very good Matt.
-
The palm trees are from ebob, but not yet available to buy, from his shop.
Been waiting patiently for those... they look super.
Really like the portacabin. Died their many a time. ;)
-
I have been following your great work on your blog but it's nice to be able to post a comment here as well :)
Incredible work. I love how much trouble you have gone to with this (and your other projects).
Thanks for taking the time to share your work. I just wish you lived in Australia so I could play on the table.
Did you have a rules set in mind or are you planning to use your own home brew rules?
Happy Gaming,
Allan
-
That two storey construction site building, the one above the Abrams tank, always attracts too much fire in the game! this all looks rather familiar, great stuff! Great stuff indeed!
-
Thanks for the comments guys!
Bit more work done today - another set of portacabins, plus also some damaged versions.
The building site is almost done - a few more details on the steel-framed/concrete shells to do - needs some fencing at some point.
-
Did you have a rules set in mind or are you planning to use your own home brew rules?
Yup - I've written a set of rules, specifically, as a homage to Battlefield Bad Company 2 -ie "BAD AR:SE".
The rules will be available to download, FOR FREE, from my blog, after the Salute show, on 16th April.
All I would ask, is if people like the rules, that they make a small donation to The Combat Stress Charity, using the Justgiving Link, on my blog.
A teaser shot of the rules can be found on this thread:

Day off today - got some more done:
Quad Bike from Eureka
(http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh72/AKULADEEP/Battlefield%20Bad%20Company%202/P1050507-1.jpg)
Another two-storey house
(http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh72/AKULADEEP/Battlefield%20Bad%20Company%202/P1050509.jpg)
That is all of the templates covered - phew!
Will make a couple more rubble templates, plus at least one more house (might wuss out, and make a single-storey, due to time constraints).
Tempted to paint what i've got built, first, so at least I know what time is left over.
-
Just in case I haven't mentioned it enough, we will be collecting for The Combat Stress Charity, at Salute, so please feel free to pop your change in the collection tin, as the Show Organisers have been very supportive as well.
If you fancy making an online donation, you can do so, by clicking on the logo below, and it will take you to the Justgiving page, where you can make a secure donation, either by credit card, or paypal.

Thank you to everyone that has donated so far, and to the Prof, for giving his blessing, to posting the link.

Shot of table lengthwise (2 photos stuck together, but you get the idea)
(http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh72/AKULADEEP/Battlefield%20Bad%20Company%202/P1050512.jpg)(http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh72/AKULADEEP/Battlefield%20Bad%20Company%202/P1050513-1-1.jpg)
and the view, down the table (minus all the clutter, in my games room), with the map i'm working off of
(http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh72/AKULADEEP/Battlefield%20Bad%20Company%202/P1050514-1-1.jpg) (http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh72/AKULADEEP/Battlefield%20Bad%20Company%202/AricaHarbor_conquest-1-1.png)
-
So from the finish working back to your current WIP photo, you have about 3 more sturctures to work up?
-
There are actually 5 rubble templates on the board, so I need another 5 buildings, but will probably make another one or two, for Salute, and rotate some of the rubble counters.
This was always going to be a personal project, but the timing fell in well with Salute, and gave me the motivation, to get a table covered by then. Having said that, there is plenty more i'd like to add, once the pressure is off - for example, I'm not using doors for the Salute game, but will add them on later, when time permits.
-
I find real time constraints add a bit more flare to the creative process and add to my ability to focus on the task. Good solid efforts you have made so far, also from the aspect of durability. Keep up the good work!
-
A very brief update, for a change - most of my spare time today was spent sealing up the edges of the foamboard, with either polyfiller, or PVA glue, to mkae it easier to paint.
As this isn't very exciting, from a visual point of view, here is a photo of the pylon I put together, as well:
Its a Hornby model - stands approx 23cm high - not in scale, put good enough for me. Will probably leave it minus power cables, as may (or probably may not) have time for a second one
-
Which miniatures for the Infantry figures are you using for the game?
They look good on the terrain which looks great as well.
It has given me some ideas to use at my LGS. I will definitely donate for a good cause. Getting some fun skirmish rules is just a nice bonus ;)
-
Which miniatures for the Infantry figures are you using for the game?
People will be bringing whatever suits them best, for the game at Salute, but i've got a mix of Empress and Mongrel, plus a squad of Black Scorpion as well - the latter are much bigger, but there will be so few minis on the table, it shouldn't matter.
I will definitely donate for a good cause.
Thanks - much appreciated!

That's a great idea! Thanks for the pointers on figures. There are some great figure manufacturers out there.
I wish I could say the same about the rules sets ???
Thanks - much appreciated!

Always happy to help. I served my time in the Australian Regular Army and have many mates who have done some very hard yards in Iraq and Afghanistan. I still do the occasional volunteer work to support our vets here. Very few people realise what these guys have gone through and seen and continue to live with every day of their lives. Not to forget their families who live with them as well.
I am behind our troops 100% regardless of nationality.

I know what you mean.
The rules i'm using for this game, will be FREE to download, from my blog, from the Salute weekend (16th April) - please bear in mind that they've been written specifically with the Battlefield game in mind, and so they may seem a bit quirky to someone, if they've not played the game online. ;) :D
-
Quick update - wouldn't want you to think I'd spent all week on the xbox...
A whole bunch of buildings are sitting around my games room (of which this is a small selection) while the base coat dries.
and i've made a couple of test pieces for the chainlink fencing
(http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh72/AKULADEEP/Battlefield%20Bad%20Company%202/P1050522.jpg)
The blue tarp is just tissue paper, painted blue.
Mini is a Black Scorpion marine, painted by Dags.
-
Got some more painted today - just a basic coat, on some buildings (close up, it looks like a five year old has painted them, while wearing a pair of boxing gloves.... )
Hopefully will get a chance to do some detailing, before Salute, but for now i've still got more buildings to paint.
A few of the pieces have warped slightly, due to the paint, but thankfully, are easy to bend back into shape, as they are largely made of foamcard.
-
Wow! That is a stunning table! Not long now until Salute, can't wait to see it.
-
Blah blah blah, got some more stuff done blah blah 6 days until Salute blah blah:
:D
Some fences done (freaky has more for Salute)
Added some window type things to the houses
(http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh72/AKULADEEP/Battlefield%20Bad%20Company%202/P1050530.jpg)
Painted the portacabins
(http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh72/AKULADEEP/Battlefield%20Bad%20Company%202/P1050535.jpg)
repainted the bases of existing minis that Dags the filipino had already done for me.
and some other stuff which doesn't deserve a photo, but was quite important for the game
-
She's a beauty.
Wish I could be there :-*
-
looking good, hope you're gonna take heaps of pics at the show for us poor souls who cant make it
-
As far as the table for Salute is concerned, its DONE!
:D
Built another rubble template today, and added a bit of colour to the existing ones
(http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh72/AKULADEEP/Battlefield%20Bad%20Company%202/P1050537.jpg)
The portacabins are finished (added the windows today)
Interchangable damaged versions.
-
Some more photos of the table.

Will add some more detail after Salute (roof clutter, doors etc) but I've got everything I wanted for Salute done, with a couple of days to spare.....now i need to paint some figures!
-
Cracking stuff. Looking forward to seeing this on Saturday. 8) 8) 8)

Seconded. :-* As llong as I can escape the shackles imposed by Mr Bibbly and tour the show ;)
-
Thanks guys - its nice to get a project to completion point, athough I guess it won't ever be truly finished, as i'm already thinking of extra tweaks....
:D
-
Wow!
This project is cool! :-* :-* :-*
- Dr. Viking, definer of what is cool. :-X
-
Wow! Will definately have to come check this out!
-
Great stuff, Akky :-*
Really impressed that it looks close to the original :)
-
Awesome project! :o
Will be great to see this in all its glory on Saturday. :D
-
Thanks guys.
Its good to hear that people can see some likeness to the original - i've had to make some compromises for playability - for example, the buildings all sit on a standard template, so I can swop them around, so please don't tell me "that building should be green, not red..."
;)
Hopefully will get a chance to have a natter on Saturday - feel free to drop any loose change, in the collection tin, we will have, on the table for Combat Stress.
-
Sorry, but the supporting pillars in the construction houses should be brown, not red.
Since this is a major issue for me, I've decided not to attend Salute.
;)
Bloody miss it this year, again :'(
-
I've been following this project on your blog. Really awesome work. EA should thank you, it made me go out and buy the game and play online for the first time. That map is one of my favorites.

if anyone else is on xbox feel free to add me :D :D

Cheers mate, coming from a fellow loon, like yourself, that is a compliment!
:D
See you on saturday.
-
Great game thanks, Captain Stnky's first show game too.
Top effort and game running from yourself and chum, although the gnashing of teeth when folk were less than respectful with the scenery was very slightly noticable but well hidden. 8)

Personally, the best response for me, was online gamers, walking past, recognising the Arica Harbor map.
It was good to see passersby, pointing out their favourite sniping spot, or route across the map.

and as promised

Great looking game Akula. It does remind me a bit of my favourite holiday haunt in Fuerteventura... Only without the tanks, obviously... :D
I came over to say hello a couple of times, but you were always in demand with a queue of questioners so I gave up. Sorry about that ;)
Maybe next year...

Great game, easily the best game I've played at salute, nice rules :D , look forward to next year...

You're welcome!

Great game thanks, Captain Stnky's first show game too.
Top effort and game running from yourself and chum, although the gnashing of teeth when folk were less than respectful with the scenery was very slightly noticable but well hidden. 8)
lol, I was said chum and I could notice akky grinding his teeth - especially with the pylon, to which I gave in and moved the thing further into the board. There was on ever so polit chap from on here who had a fantastic moustache, and his two kids played in the game (one had a flat cap on if that helps?) - both were on my 'team' - the glorious brotherhood of the red motherland (russians) and we one. Both young lads played well and were a joy to have play the game - especially on my winning team. I do apologise to the gentleman in question as I didn't get your LAF tag so I do not know to whom I am referring! :(
Akky was a great host and produced a wonderful table with great rules. Although the poor deluded chap does support Arsenal.....

bah, please ignore my typos and spelling mistakes.

That was 6mmPhil, and his kids, and yes they were all great sports!

The board came out a treat! :-*
Sounds like fun was had by all. Well done!

Oh you guys say the sweetest things... aye we all had caps (Slug was the only one who kept his on all day), we dressed up for the VBCW game (did you see it?). We don't usually dress like that honest! Of course at Salute that barely raised a single hair on a gnat's eyebrow, did get some attention on the tube there and back though. Can't complain though a quick doff or tug of the cap plus a "good afternoon miss" did raise a few sweet smiles from some pretty fillies, Tally Ho!
My fave photos from the table:
Like this one because it shows the detail of the model plus Akula himself. He was very blurred by the end of it.

One of these is AlienSurfer

Captain Stinky takes command.

Getting Stinky started early is vital as I see it. Slug started with his first demo game with the very worthy and quite brill Deal Wargamers "Saving Private Ryan" game and has turned out a great budding gamer, painter, modeller. Now Stinky started with the one man legend Akula and his trusty sidekick Aliensurfer so I imagine he'll own GW by the age of 21, and close it down just for shits and giggles. :D

Great stuff, will make a donation when I get a bit more cash into the pocket, been quiet for a while now but inbetween Uni, been preparing for selection for the Territorial Army!
I have a few projects that take on the modern twist (though nothing as awesome as that tabletop!) so will be needing rules for them!
Anyone interested my xbox tag is Hellvern
Give me a call if I am on Xbox and I will try and come lend some supporting fire!
-
Cheers mate (and thanks for the offer of the donation!)
AKULAZED will doubtless need to request fire support at some point soon...given the way I play.....
lol

Might as well stick these here too:
Very nicely done table Matt, a little laser painting the hummer assistance from Aliensurfer with Captain Stinky! ;) but hey..... at least I didn't lose any dogtags to a kid! ;)
