Two very nice entries :-* :-* :-*
Bases on the first one are great. Love the idea.
And the man with the dog is back :o
Amazing amount of figures :-*
Good luck to both of you
-
Lovelly entries
BTW, anyone an idea who makes the `half horse fellas` in the second entry?
-
Hammers, awesome entry. There is just so much to see! The painting is great as well, with all the different motives you've used. Excellent entry, my favorite one for the round!
-

I think they're from Foundry's Xmas pantomime pack (they're known in the UK as "pantomime horses").
-
Added to the Salute shopping list ;)
-
Awesome!
Raz: good one on peoples doing their "business" :)
and your old man in the suit is practically the same as mine, check it out, what are the odds...
(he must be painted in a brown!)
As said, there is so much going on in Hammers' entry and, strangely enough, what I really like is the decor on stage.
It really looks like some amateur cardboard DIY's.
-
@Tomsche: it is indeed a Foundry Christmas special. The dauphin of the Hammers, Fiver, son of Hammers, 3 year old, was very invested in this project, which lead to that at the time of shooting I could not for my life find the trans-gender Robin Hood character. He's hidden it somewhere.
@Northstar: glad that's the impression you get of the decor. It was exactly what I was going for. It was strangely satisfying to do an impression of an impression of an impression.
-
The man with the dog is back!
Difficult choice here ....
-
You're missing an 'H', H. :)
My favourite thing is the stage scenery too. Barmy thing to fixate on, I know, but it is really cool.
-
Both of these are very strong entries ... but wow Hammers I think that this is the best that I have seen you do and that includes the great gypsies from last year!
-
You're missing an 'H', H. :)
I am mortified...
The explanation is that I base coated the banner, stencilled the lettering (correctly) bent the banner to shape and then airbrushed the white hilites. Unfortunately it covered too much of the lettering so I had to go back and do the touch ups and that's where I fucked up.
How embarrassing, I assure you I know how it is spelled...
Of course you are right, Bezzo!
-
Hehe, I saw that too but also thought it was intentional!
Hammers, if it's any consolation, I think it fits in the setting perfectly!!!
:D
-
Good save, Bezzo! :)
-
Raz, what's that scrawled on the loo door? "I don't take shit from anyone"? =)
Top entries both, but my vote must go to my not-so-hamfisted countryman. Bloody great job, Peder!
-
Very nice scenes, both entries. Didn't know about so many miniature kids on the market; would you consider providing a list, Hammers?
:-*
-
I certainly can, Admiral.
The running school boys are modified Eureka Victorian street boys, except one which is from a Musketeer VBCW civilian set. That one is as sold. The girl in the blue-white-red chequered dress is from the same set. Lovely, both. The babies are from Pulp Figures, so are the bigger boys and the girl in red. The two wee kids in are Hasslefree. And that's it, I believe. Oh, the girl with the balloon is from a GB/Woodbine set.
-
Excellent work on both entries here.
Raz, the title of your entry made my chuckle contently when I saw your entry, very clever lol
Hammers entry has a lot of really nice touches to it as well: the variety of kiddie models (thanks for letting us know so I can fill my shopping list up ;)), the stage scenery "scenery" and the typo'd amateur banner. Lots to like about both entries.

The joke wasn't completely intentional. It wasn't after I had set up the scene that I noticed the pun, although I don't mind one bit offcourse :D
Northstar, I indeed noticed you entered the same fig. It's an awesome miniature isn't it, crying out for a suit in this colour. I used Dark Flesh by the way, washed with Badab Black, again Dark Flesh and then a highlight with some Bleached Bone added.
Phreedh, you're spot on sir! 8) On the backside another funny guy painted 'this stinks' ;)
-
I loved the fabrics on the kids in the fair. Very nicely executed.
-
Raz, the portapotties, are they scratchbuilt?
-
Raz, your entry is excellent and my favourite civilian of yours has to be the punk, excellent job on him! Hammers, you never fail to disappoint, yours is a big, rich and colourful entry and I love it!
-
Cheers Pil, thanks again for lending me the miniature. He came out exactly like I had imagined him :)
Raz, the portapotties, are they scratchbuilt?
Nope, it's a pdf I found years ago on TMP if I recall correctly, so credits go to some else. I printed it on thick paper, assembled it and used some paint to smudge it up a little. If you want I can send you the pdf, just send me a PM with your email. If somebody else wants it, send me a PM as well.
-
Nice one 'ammers, I t'ink dis entry is my favourite of the round :-*
Love the pun Raz, a khazi queue! What an excellent idea 8)
-
Jaw droppingly good
-
such a pain to vote for the second one.
Two lovely entries, maybe the first paintjob was a little better, but the second IDEA was fantastic :-* :-*
-
Hammers was the typo on the banner deliberate?
-
Nice work the both of you :) It's going to be a tough LPL this year ;D
-
Brilliant attention to detail in both of these - oddly, they're like flip-sides of the same coin. The Children's Fayre, like something from an Enid Blyton novel, and then the Porta-Loos, like something from a modern day music festival. Both brilliant entries, full of imaginatation and creativity (and no small amount of skill!)
-
I think Hammer's Fayre is one of my favourite entries this round, so much character and great details.
The portapotties are inspired, too - an excellent excuse for a disparate group of modern civilians to be hanging around together!
-
Hammers was the typo on the banner deliberate?
*cough* I refer you to previous posts.

This seems to be one of the most popular competitions err matches. I'm going with matches it is more European. I'm not sure if it is the closest match, but people seem to be enjoying it. I'm taking another look at the matches that have drawn the most comment, as I seem to be involved in one of them, and I can't help think I'm losing. Going to have get my scenery and my miniature collection in the same building it seems, that and acquire a real camera instead of going with the iPhone...
Good luck in round 2 which since I already painted mine, I want to start soon, now round 3, round 3 can take its sweet time showing up... ;-)
-
Hardest choice of the lot so far (maybe competition) and if it was not for the language I would have voted the other way. Prudish of me but it does not sit right - sorry.
Andrew
-
Both are excellent entries.
Raz, who makes " Fuck the State" in your entry?
-

Sorry about that, I'll write CHILDREN on the black board a 100 times. :)
-
Chairface, he's one of the spacelord civilians from EM4, http://em4miniatures.com/acatalog/Civilians.html (http://em4miniatures.com/acatalog/Civilians.html). When I saw him, my first thoughts were that he could look very much like a punker from the eighties (at the moment I'm writing educational content on postworld youthculture), hence the language. The rapper with all the bling is from the same range.
-
Imagine someone complaining about swearing and is not talking about Hammers lol lol lol lol
-
Hammers
Hammers you've misinterpreted Andrew Beasley. lol
He voted for you, as he objected to the swearing on the other entry.
Bezzo, I fear you have misinterpreted Hammers ;)
Think he was being ironic ::)
-
I wasn't going to say anything but Cptn Blood spoiled it for me. :)
-
....and to think the British invented irony and I didn't spot it >:(
To be honest I was a bit mischievous since I think Raz deserved a better reason for not getting that vote.
-
....and to think the British invented irony and I didn't spot it >:(
I don't want to come over all wargames anorak but I thought it was the French ;)
-
I don't want to come over all wargames anorak but I thought it was the French ;)
Nono, you are thinking of rudeness. ;)
-
lol
-
Oh, come on Bezzo! It's just a national cliché... It is even used in Pixars animated film 'Ratatouille': 'We hate to be rude but... we're French! It's dinner time!' :)
-
People, thank you all for the votes cast for my entry. I thought myself that Raz's entry was a worthy winner. Hard to know what gives you the edge...
I thought I'd show you a new image of the Ye Olde Playing Company of Totleigh-In-The-Wold, in their much lauded production of Robyn Hod and the Shryff off Notyngham
From left to right Sir Walter Shortman-Sindrom as John Little, Miss Campanula "Totty" Tottington as Robin of Sherwood, Mr Richard Lloyd as Maid Marion, reverand John Ford as the Sheriff and two nameless stage hands as the Horse. And look at the priceless piece of comedy: the lead horse actor, to his fellow's chagrin, has 'forgotten' to put his trousers on! Ahahaha!

As you can see the 6th member has emerged, quite literally. She stood head first in a pot of dirty paint brush water, completely concealed by the muck.
-
Excellent Peder. Gets better and better.
I have, in fact, never played Maid Marian, but have played the Sheriff of Nottingham at least twice! :)
-
Excellent! I wouldn't have thought of something like that in a million years :-*
