Now where were we?
Ah yes. As is the norm, reinforcements arrive in the nick of time. A detachment from the Grenadier Guards (Heavy) Brigade supported by a Thunderer (it’s around the corner) forms a second line and a detachment from the Surreys reinforces the gasworks:

The Surreys deploy in time to check the Prussian flank move and a bloody exchange of lead followed by a touch of fisticuffs ensues with both units fighting almost to the last man. With the canal to their backs the Prussians wobble and the Surreys hold the flank. :

The local constabulary muck in and prevent the Prussians finding a back door (literally) into the works:

The Prussian steam tank builds up momentum thanks to slope on the bridge and smashes through the barricade destroying the lightning gun and its crew. In the process it damages its gearbox and is slowed to a crawl:
Prussian forces stream across the bridge and the Impervious Suit makes a valiant stand inflicting many casualties before succumbing to the inevitable:
The Prussian tank finally breaks down within inches of the Thunderer’s barrel. The Thunderer’s crew hold a quick meeting. Will they or wont they?
The Guards move into action and charge the advancing Prussians. The Guards are victorious but at a heavy cost in good men to both sides:

The Thunderer’s crew come to a decision. The steam tank goes up in smoke. In the background the remains of the Prussian force can be seen retreating back across the canal bridge:
The Prussian commander Herr Dreyer, convinced his forces would be victorious, is discovered half cut and singing silly songs in the White Hart. Oops:
Herr Dreyer is escorted off to GHQ for a ‘chat’ and the remaining defending force reforms at the Gasworks. The roll call makes for dismal reading but the line held and the gasworks are secure…….. for now:

Not the most epic battle as VSF goes but hopefully some decent eye candy to get you inspired.

You need a bigger table so you can put more loviness on it for us to drool over! ;)
-
:-*
Outstanding!
Thankfully the Guards gave those dastardly Prussians what for! :D
Pip pip, and all that... o_o
-
More VSF goodness ;D
All looking rather splendid, lovely, lovely stuff :-*
Those street lamps are very nice, you should have painted them though by now ;) ... ::) ...lol
-
Thanks for the pics :-* :-* :-*
Obviousily the Brits did not understand the true objective off the Prussian attack.
The Brits should have been defending the pub :?
Herr Dryer just wanted a beer lol
-
Hairdryer?
I probably asked this before, but what are your cobbled roads made from?
-
Two of my favorite things to see on LAF: "VSF" & " Pic Heavy". Good show!

Lovely stuff! :-* Just the ticket, what?
-
That was highly enjoyable.
-
What is the technical name of the material used for the cobblestone roads, if not a hobby made item?
-
Outstanding looking game and great write-up.
Keep up the good work TC.
-
Lovely stuff! Another request for info on the roads & sidewalks.

No matter! What you did was squeeze a huge amount of action, beautiful scenery and figures into a small area and took some very atmospheric pics too.
Possibly the best "street-fighting" battle report I've seen.
Mind you, you do need to buck up and make a proper big town for the next one ::)
lol

Three cheers for "our lads" (and Thunderchicken, of course). :-*
-
Very inspirational. More please...
-
Wow! Thanks for all the comments, they're very much appreciated. :)
Argonor, Alfrik and Tommy20 - the cobblestoned roads are very easy to make. I buy cork tiles from the local DIY store, cut them into strips and stick embossed wallpaper on to them. I keep the sections short to avoid warping. I'm not sure how easy it is to get cork tiles where you are but if you need any of the embossed wallpaper I've got heaps of it.
-
i thought they were bought bits.
I need to get to B&Q and see if they have any.
-
Thank you for all this.
-
Totleben, you're welcome.
I need to get to B&Q and see if they have any.
I get the cork tiles from Wickes and the wallpaper from B&Q and Homebase if that's any help.
-
I am so
jealous, envious, angry impressed with your work. That terrain is immaculate.
-
angry
lol
Speaking of immaculate I want to put some ruined buildings together but I'm finding the thought of that more daunting than any of the builds I've done so far.
-

Easy fix - make a bunch to your current standard then jump up and down on them - eh voila!!

Wow! What a great looking game!

And don't you just love how he makes "Pic Heavy" look like an apology, Herr Baron? lol
"Not the most epic battle as VSF goes..." So modest! lol lol
By the way, where in Independence do you play? Any good shoppes in the area?
@Thunderchicken If you happen to come upon a maker's name for the wall paper, I know I'd appreciate it. Not sure if it would necessarily be in our shoppes, but well worth a look.

Beast,
As far as shops go, if your talking VSF, nothing. I get everything vie the Intranets. The few places around here cater to the GW crowd. There's Tabletop over in Overland Park, KS if your in the area. I do, however, highly recommend our RECRUITS convention if you can make down from Nebraska.

Spiffing! 8)

Thanks chaps.
Doug, the wallpaper is the DIY stores own brand (Homebase) so I doubt they export it. If you have no luck sourcing any let me know.
-
Nice idea with the wallpaper.. I'll have to keep my eyes pealed.
Everything looks great.. I love the dense terrain. Just gorgeous.

Sorry, Thunder old friend, don't mean to derail your thread, but...
Well, any shops with used and cut out bins? Bottom-feeder-R-me.
As for Recruits, Baron, I do, and regularly, oft behind the table with the sign 'Gauntlet Games'. ;->=

PS It's my partner and twin-by-a-different-mother, Randy, that on occasion runs a G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T. game there.

Been looking for embossed wallpaper here in DK for the last decade..... seems to have gone out of fashion over here somewhen during the 60'ies or 70'ies.
I'll get back to you if I happen to start or restart a project that needs cobbles, then... I am thinking of digging out my Gothic Horror/Victorian Weird Adventure project as soon as I've painted a few minis for VUK, Judge Dredd, and Zed games, but with my current speed it won't be until 2020 or something...
-
Top stuff yet again Mr Chicken, and a cracking game report to boot. Bravo!!! Nice to see the Victorian style Police station in use. Lovely stuff.
-
I love this (and part 1, obviously)!
Can I ask, are those Prussians Renegade WW1? Also, are your British all Ironclad?
-
Cheers Gibby,
With regards to the British the Guards are Ironclad and the infantry are Redoubt.
The Prussian marines are indeed Renegade WW1, I nicked the idea from Skrapwelder.
The remaining Prussian infantry are from Warrior Miniatures.
