Well, I'm making an early start although some of the things that will go on the table have been done for a while. These for example...

First off is the general layout of the town that will be present, photos of which later. I've made a start on a samurai mansion and there is a teaser photo here but there is a more comprehensive write up on the blog :)

A small amount of progress has been made :) No blog post on this until I get the plan sorted because it will all make more sense that way.
The photos are a bit dark but it is cloudy today :)

The drainage ditches will be around every building section, obviously getting less refined the closer to the edge of town
More to follow at some point in the near future ;)

I was wondering what the "gutters" were until I read your blog.
They are a very nice historical detail.

I've made the Salute pilgrimage twice so far ... :o Loved it!
If I could I would go every year. o_o
Can't make it this year, this and the last year have been kinda crazy years for me... perhaps next year... and maybe Tactica too. ;D
-
Awesome :o I love it!
-
It looks very good! Nice job, James!!! :o
-
WOW! This table is fantastic! :-* :-*
I like the bridge, the watercolor and the idea with the ditches. STUNNING! :o
-
Bit more of an update, we're pretty much there just a couple of last minute boards to finish and buildings to make lol
Once again, no blog post until after the event but hopefully these photos will show the intention of the board.

Looks a bit haphazard at the mo but only because me and my favourite are sorting out what goes where and certain bits are missing. The tall structure is a pagoda which is done now, I've only got the surrounding walls for that bit to do.
It's all scratch built (apart from the top roof which is from JR01 in my catalogue) and there are approximately 500 parts to it ::)

Poor old Mr Bibbly had very few hours sleep in the run up to Salute and the canal board suffered as as result.... he broke it :'(

I was actually rather pleased with the way this turned out and my wife has even suggested making the town larger for next year :o I might even re-vamp the castle I have and include it in the town... We'll just have to wait and see ;)

Wonderful stuff

That is a work of art :-*

Great stuff, James!
What sources do you use for the "urban planning" details?
Is that maku made from origami paper?
Cheers!

Absolutely gorgeous.

The table is getting better and better ;)
-
Thanks muchly chaps :) (even my wife was really pleased with it ;D ).
Great stuff, James!

The planning is from whatever information I've gleaned over the years and from several of the Japanese books that I have (I've even got a small one on town layouts for castle towns). It's one of those things that as you become immersed into a period or genre things start to stick in the mind and you don't have to research as much.
The town proportions have been reduced somewhat to get it on the table because the bloody thing would be over 20 foot long to get the same amount of information on the table lol
The maku were from origami paper ;)

The table is getting better and better ;)
Very true, but note the absence of anyone looking at it, a common theme during the day, as opposed to the hugely popular game adjacent to it. ;) lol

Yes, the War & Conquest team looked pleased ;)

Fantastic board, James! :-*
Must have been a bugger moving all that terrain.
-
I'm I the only person who would like to live there? Fair enough, minus the marauding hordes of course!....and id have to be 28mm tall! :-[
I've only got ONE word for that table.......brilliant, cracking, frigging awesome and fantastic. More pictures please or even a battle report would be much appreciated.
-
Just one lol
Pictures below and Ray, it's not too bad actually, the boards stack up on top of each other and everything else goes in similar sized boxes (just about ;) ).

No fear, I was too busy behind the stall although I was allowed out for 30 seconds for the LAF meet :)

Say, what's the small square enclosure at roughly the centre of the board, with three blue patterned fabric panels as walls? Some sort of command post?
-
:o
Stunning .. absolutely stunning! I don't even play Samurai period games and I'm jealous!
-

The screens are called maku and it was used as an identifying command post for the commanding daimyo. Generally static but on occasion could be moved (only when absolutely necessary though).
