So there I was, mulling about what to do with all of my massed array of 28mm science fiction figures when inspiration finally struck and propelled me into re-writing Blasters & Bulkheads into something that fitted my own science fiction setting a lot more. Aided with Dijit from these boards, I've then set about to paint - at the very least - one miniature (preferably more) each week in the coming year!
However, to kick start things I just finished up a couple of units and posting them here to share :D

Nice stuff!
What is your setting like?
-
Thanks! :)
In essence, the setting is a bit of everything; thrown into the blender and hopefully prove interesting. There are some elements within the setting that are old tropes (an ancient Imperium, some Rebels, Pirates of the Space Lanes etc.) but I think I've manage to give it all a twist?
Anyway - the basic gist of it is that following a great war (as in, a really, really, really big war that saw a whole lot of systems brought to its knees) the Known Galaxy at large is currently at "peace". At the end of the War, former planets from both the Republican side as well as the Imperial side seceeded from their former empires and banded together to form the Alliance (of Seven Dukes), centered around an 8th Planet which was to be their neutralground, called New Haven.
However, as the rebuilding progress started following the inconclusive war, an Alliance Patrol (think of it as somewhat of an UN force) ship encountered what was to be known as Gateway Pandora; a halfway point between New Haven and a "cut off" section of the Known Galaxy referred to as the Forbidden Zone.
There they found a whole host of unseen planets, ancient relics and other glorious discoveries which has led to a small colonization race for anyone in the Galaxy with enough money to travel into the Forbidden Zone and stake claims or make explorations.
The Alliance is too shorthanded and underfunded to be able to launch any meaningful expedition into this zone, so instead they attempt to bolster their coffers by the shipping prices of using the Pandora Wormhole into the new sector of the Forbidden Zone.
And, well, that's where the setting kicks off and the campaign games begin as all players create their own exploration bands and venture into the... Forbidden Zone!

nice Strikeforce you have there ;D i like the Background too, reminds me of the Void Universe or Battletech :)
-
nice Strikeforce you have there ;D i like the Background too, reminds me of the Void Universe or Battletech :)
Glad to hear! I was sort of aiming at a mix'n'match of those two universes - there's a whole lot more to the setting; but it's still being typed up (and will probably be compiled into a more concrete document/webpage at some point or other :))
-
yeah,i always liked the techy Background of Void and BT:Everything was explained how it works, be it Wartech/Civil Life or how to colonize a New World etc
-
Love the Pig Iron stuff!
-
even more reason for me to look forwards to our first game. Looking forwards to seeing what else you've produced too ;)

"The 417th is a heavy recon/combat regiment, embedded to the 4th Republican Mecha Division. Currently deployed on Verograd IV as a response to the Verograd Uprising."
Cheers everyone for the comments!
As for what gets me to paint then I honestly don't know. I'm guessing it's got something to do with cofee, a desire to paint - and a plentora of ideas for my mish-mash setting where everything, sorta, goes. It's been rather liberating not having to consider all aspects of a given setting when sitting down to paint.
That - and the simple fact that I paint a multitude of projects for skirmish gaming :)
-
Nice paint on those, but really good bases :-*
-
I'd also say that a motivation for me (and I'm guessing you too) has been sitting painting together.
Nice to see the Republican guard finished and based - and very nicely based too.
Duncan
-
Thanks again! I really didn't do much to it this time around; I'm guessing that I should figure out some static grass for those based with a more desert-theme in mind ???
@Dijit - Oh yes, definately helps keep the motivation going when you've got somebody to chat with while painting! :)
-
Nice stuff! Do you know, perchance, who makes that second "Black Market Wardroid"? It looks awfully familiar, but I cannot pinpoint it.
-
Not only that, but I can give you a direct link to where you can buy it! (http://www.scotiagrendel.com/Products/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=82_87&products_id=3374) :)

Ruddy bloody heck, that red scheme gives it a whole new identity. Never would have thought it's an Urban War Syntha. Thanks a bunch.

301st Republican Guard
(http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j313/Phoenikuz/Sci-Fi%20Chronicles/rangers045.jpg)
A small recon element of a much larger force that I'm currently giving a small dosage of repaint these days so as to make them look a bit more unified. They're primarily going to consist of old Syntha combat robots, as well as various bereted (if that's a word) copplestone miniatures; although I am considering converting some Red Devils WW2 units to match.

Looking very good Torben, you're on a roll now.

Just a quick update for a couple of yet-to-be-named characters that are not as near-futuristic as the others I've been painting recently.
Cheers! :)
-
I really, really like the paint scheme on your troopers. Good work!

You could do some serious bug-hunting with those! 8)

Finally got some new miniatures painted in this here new year. Won't be long till I have managed to paint all the miniatures I'll need for a quick little battle set on some new discovered planet deep within the Forbidden Zone.
These are a small contingency of Imperial Soldiers who are currently employed to aid the Imperial ventures into the Forbidden Zone - however, I'm still considering what to pick up and paint next for the Imperial Forces - any good suggestions for not-too-gothic-40k-Imperial-Guards? ;)

Roo'kilian Ape (Wizards of the Coast, Prepaint)
And seeing as I've got the tempo going, here's some more painted miniatures! :D
-
Nice! I love the classic Eldar and the WOTC prepaint, did you touch it up?
-
Very nice like them all. Really like the Robot/suit with the pig iron dudes in the first pic ;)
-
What a fun looking project.
You have a lot of interesting well painted miniatures. :-*
I don't own Blasters and Bulkheads, but I've used (slightly modified) Goalsystem rules for all kinds of stuff.
-
Nice to see them finished and the blue was a good choice. Good to see Mr Gore Illa based too.
Duncan
-
I really like the bite-sized approach that you have taken with this project. I also currently trying to vary my output a bit more in order to avoid burn out, so this project is a nice bit of inspiration.
Keep it up!
-
What models are the infantry troops for the 417th?
-
Aren't those also Copplestone? Or EM4 now? (or both??)
-
That's why I recognized them, I have some sitting on my work bench... lol
-
Cheers for the comments everyone! Unfortunately I've been bit by the flu recently and haven't had much luck in painting up more soldiers. I am however going to paint up some more troops for an Alien Empire - problem is I can't decide on how to paint them! ::)
As for the prepaint then it is a repaint of the prepaint; the details on the Roo'killian Ape was not that good. And yes, the 407th are EM4 Military Dudes. Although I've promised myself not to purchase any more miniatures this year I still need some more of those troopers in order to present a full platoon. Ah well, the best laid plans and all that... ;)

So... This project got a bit sidetracked as my old computer up and died a couple of months ago. But now, as I have returned to the net with a brand new computer (and having had ample time to play a whole host of computer games) I've finally started to upload pictures of my Space Chronicles project.
I'm planning on getting an actual game in this setting (gasp!) next Thursday, so hopefully this Painting Project will soon increase to a Painting and Gaming Project! Stay tuned ;)
-
Very nice! Provided you know it, who manufactures the white-and-green robots/aliens in the second pic? I really like those, somehow.
-
Thanks! And, oh, I do know, but they are now - sadly - OOP :(
They're Skinnie Royal Guards from Mongoose ill-fated Starship Trooper line of miniatures. They do have a special something don't they? Unfortunately, I found the sculpts a bit hard to put paint on; the details are somewhat crude but they have a look that I really care for. I plan to expand the Saari faction (as I'm calling them in the setting) with a couple of more soldier that I've picked up here and there :)
-
Looking good Torben. Though the pictures don't seem to quite do them justice having seen them last night, especially the Pit Beast.
Duncan
-
Cheers Duncan, and no - sadly there's just something off with the pictures, and I can't figure out what's up with it this time around. I think I'll have to try and shoot some new pictures during daylight.
Oh, and btw. Doctor Thygestein (the mad doctor pictured at the top) is bound to make an appearance when we give Space Chronicles a try next week ;)
-
I thought as much!
-
Some really nice figures, great collection!
-
So, how did your gaming sessions go? Any more painted figures? :-*
-

Unfortunately, we never got around to playing any games I'm afraid. We couldn't really find the time, then life happened and all that. However, I'm hoping to revive this project - on the side, while I plug away at Fireteam Andromeda - and to kick things off here's a quick preview of a classic model:

So, I finally managed to write up the draft edition of the Rosetta System that I intend to use for this project. For those interested it can be downloaded at the following link: http://terminusnebula.blogspot.dk/p/downloads.html
And I also painted a small hovershuttle for the pilot above:

Nice to see another casevac painted up!
I bought mine as soon as Daemonscape re-released but it's just been sat there waiting to be undercoated..
One of these days I'll get round to it,how have you attached it to the base just out of curiosity?
Oh and had a quick look at the rules they look interesting I will print them off and give them a read at some point, is the pilot an old Gw mini perchance?

Yes, I'm also eyeing some of the Daemonscape stuff, especially their big dropships, to use as objectives and scenery.
As for basing mine, I did so with some magnets, actually. However, the result is rather shoddy as the Caseevac is a rather hefty beast and the magnets I used aren't really up to snuff. I simply glued on a magnet at the bottom of the Caseevac and glued another magnet on top of a transparent GW flying-base-stick. However, I should have used something just a wee bit bigger. I stays put, but a slight breeze knocks it off the stick :\
Happy to hear that you're giving them a read through; hope they'll be of some use to you :) And yes, the pilot is an old GW mini :)

I have never heard of Damonscape but that hovercraft is nice!
Nice oooold feeling to it. In a slightly different scheme it would have been right in for Dune. lol

Well here is their website: http://daemonscape.co.uk/
They bought out all the GZG resin scifi vehicles range as well as some of the 6mm stuff, they have also added their own stuff to the range, I have had nothing but excellent service from them.

Say... You're right! If I had gone for something golden-brown-ish it would look like something out of Dune for certain! Why, oh why, didn't I notice this beforehand! lol

Just a few quick snapshots of a playtest for today. An Imperial Psion, paying homage to a shrine was ambushed by a nefarious gang of pirates. Said pirates where, unfortunately quickly subdued and the Psion was whisked away to safety!

A couple of Power Armor Mercenaries for an as of yet unnamed faction. I'm not entirely convinced about the camouflage for these - any suggestions on what could be done to spruce it up?
-
Wonderful lay-out for the play-test. I like the camo pattern on the power armor. It works.
-
What about a sort of octopus camo pattern?:
You're halfway there, just need to do the circles inside the light brown patches ;)
-
I sort of agreed with myself that the camouflage looked just fine for now - those additional circles would be too much of an effort to paint on a whole platoon :)
So, instead, I finished this one up:

Nice beastie 8). Who's the manufacturer ?

Looks like a GW clawed fiend.
Nice paint!
-
Looks good Torben, will I see it tomorrow?

-
So, better late than never - am I right?
After my foray into 15mm science fiction, I suddenly found myself yearning to paint some 28mm miniatures again. And to kick things off, I started by painting this Orca for my unnamed Mercenary faction:
Which was followed by yet another unnamed Mercenary faction:
And finally, I painted up an old Rogue Trader pirate that I was given as a gift by Jonas a looong time ago.
Hopefully I should be able to keep this thread slightly more updated in the future ;)
-
Great thread! Very inspiring!
-
Very nice! We must have us some games in 2013! I'll paint up some more Phagon to oppose some of your mercenaries or emperial troops :)
-
Love all the pj's, very nice. The flyer though, again lovely Pj but a little let down by all the pressure bubble flash you've left on the front of it, real shame, but sure it's not that noticable in game though.
What's next?
-

We must indeed! Maybe you could even go for an unholy alliance between your Muster/Retained and your Phagons for the new year? That way we could have ourselves a very nice and large brawl on some godforsaken rock at the edge of the galaxy! ;)

I totally agree that it was a bit of a let down that those bubble became so noticeable on the pictures, because as you say - they are hardly noticeable on the gaming table. Next up is a small squad of Mercenary Marines (ex-Capitol Free Marines by Mark Copplestone, repainted to fit in with my Mercenary force... who are in desperate need of a name!).
Apart from the Orca, I actually noticed that the force consists primarily of Copplestone figures, so I'm thinking that they should have a name to reflect this. Hmmm....

Off the top of my head, Copplestone did all of the first corporation releases for Warzone - Capitol Special Forces (Sea Lions & Free Marines, though mohawks vs bandanas were the only differences), Mishima Samurai, Imperial Blood Berets, Bauhaus Hussars, & Cybertonic Chasseurs.
As you might know, most of these were resculpted during 2nd ed. Warzone by sculptors other than Copplestone.

Many of the early TG95_ and TG98_ packs. Copplestone, Kevin Adams and one or two other sculptors did the original releases. the later packs are by Kevin White.List here based on the Prince August catalogue and not in any way canonical. :) believe there are other packs based on Copplestone originals, converted by someone else and released. At least the sculpts look like it, like the bauhaus blitzers or martian banshees
Some figs are missing on the P. August site, and some were released that I didn't see before.

Cool.
So sell me on the rules - what's good about them!?

Cheers for the help both of you! I have some of the Capitols mentioned (Sea Lions, Special Forces, Troopers) - but with this list to go by it'll be much easier!
-
You mean apart from the fact that I'm writing them? ;D
I don't really know yet, I'm not exactly trying to push any boundaries or envelopes here - it's a simple game, easy to use mechanics and with stuff to do for the players throughtout the turn. So... Once done, I think I could tell you a bit more :)

I just finished this bunch of cyborgs from variouis areas of the Known Universe and decided to write up something about it on my blog:

Cheers!
-
Great stuff! You are spitting out classics these days :)

What part of your blog, has the write up?
-
Ahem; just edited the link in the original post to actually take you to the blog-post detailing my various musings on these cyborgs :)
-
Thanks! :)
-
Yeah!
Are they all old games workshop lumpies? ?
-
No, they're not - they're a mixture of whatever strikes my fancy and are then put into the blender and written about in notebooks that will, eventually, end up being used in a game at some point ;)
Oh - and I've been painting again!

He is an original miniature from Black Hat's Cobalt-1 line of miniatures. I can't recall his name right now, but you can find him under the hero section.

Thanks! I've got a whole load of Skinnies lying around that are in need of a paint-job in the near future :)

Those orks turned out pretty good too ;)

Those orks turned out pretty good too ;)
And nice to see Orks that aren't green ;D
-
Yup; I really dig the paintjob on those orks! 8)
A little how-to perhaps? ;)
-
And I painted some support for the not-Orcs as well:
As for the brown skin of the orcs, then I simply used Gun Corps brown (I think it was) and finished it off with Beast Hide - both of these paints are from P3. They give that nice brown color for their skin. And yes, I don't care much for greenskinned Orcs ;)
-
Great collection and great painting! It's always nice to see some non-green Orcs :)
-
I used to love the original Marine Dreadnaughts.
Brings back happy memories!

Very nice dreadnought Torben!

Ok, It's really bugging me! Where is this boy from? I'm sure it's very obvious.
Great project by the way!

Awesome thread dude. Some beautifully painted minis. Where are those Magos Guardians from? Are they old Citadel or your own conversions? I absolutely love them. :D

Thanks. Absolutely love them. That whole range is great. Not sure about the Stalker Tank but all the infantry types are beautiful.

This thread is still fantastic over a year later.
More please :)

I'm working on it, but there's also an Orx team for DreadBall on the menu, as well as some forays into fantasy wargaming as well. But don't fret, I'll try to keep this threat up to date.
And to all of those who've complimented my painting and miniatures throughout this thread; thank you, one and all! Makes it all worthwhile :)

Just finished these two of and here's a post to share them with you all:

As well as a small heavy weapons team for my Pirate force
As per usual, there are more details on my blog (http://scatterbrainedwargamer.blogspot.dk/2013/09/a-bit-of-nostalgia-from-paintdesk.html) as well as a couple of more photos!

So - I recently finished painting a couple of miniatures more. This time it's a more loose collection of miniatures as I'm trying to work out some color schemes and what miniatures to use for a couple of platoons. Anyway, on to the picture show.
EM4's Plastic troopers, sculpted by Bob Naismith I believe and I'm consideirng buying enough for a small platoon. They're not great miniatures, but they do look the part once painted up
(https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-tWZy6MB2hxY/UmDi1ph86bI/AAAAAAAAA0w/OEbw-aX5y_E/w605-h326-no/034.JPG)
Some assorted spacelane traders. From left to right - Spacelords Civilian, Black Hat (Cobalt-1) Merchant, Eldar Trader (GW)
And a really nice Ar-man from the Cobalt-1 line of miniatures from Black-Hat
-
Those are terrific!!!
Especially so the wolf and the merchant. My god what an expression on that merchant. lol
-
Bags of character.

I really like the space orks tone skin, very original, and well executed.
The em4 troopers looks pretty good, actually. I will probably buy some for my own scifi setup, they will do a great scifi police/riot unit.
-
Awesome update! :-*
I don't know how I missed this....
The traders are really great! Also the Ar-Men man ehm... The EM4 troopers looks pretty good with paint on too, I can't tell it is plastic lol

Cheers!
I have probably missed it being asked, but who makes those guardians? lovely stuff btw.

Cheers everyone for the likes and comments on this thread. As I said, it definitely makes it all worthwile :)

Yes you've missed it ;) They're Iron Brotherhood miniatures from Micro Art Studios and they are rather nice, if a bit crude.
-
awesome thread, some really nice minis in here and some great inspiration!

I painted up these two Rogue Trader classics to get my mojo back as I'm currently slavering away on a project for this years Horisont event (http://www.horisontesbjerg.dk) in Denmark. Oh and I got a new camera, which hopefully shows otherwise it would've been a bit of a waste of money :D
-
Photos look good and so does the models and paintjob!
The last one is very Star Wars ;D
-
Torben, this thread is pure awesome! I don't venture onto the Future Wars board much, but this have made it worthwhile suffering through numerous Colon Aliens threads.
When my wife questions why there have been an influx in jiffybags in the post, I'll point to this thread and say "He made me do it!"...
How did things pan out with the rules, btw? I'm in the market for a fun, easy and open-ended rule set.

Haha! Cheers! I don't quite know how I feel about being a scape goat for your miniature purchases, but hey, the more the merrier! ;)
I am still working on the rules - had to alter a lot of things, a couple of rewrites and thrashed drafts but soon (at Horisont 5 (http://www.horisontesbjerg.dk) actually) I'll have a one-off, bareboned and basic edition of the rules that I'll distribute at the con and freely on the internet as well... so, watch this thread ;)
