Title: Dread Pirate LeChuck - Innkeeper, hearth and grog 12th of June!
Post by: Dr. The Viking on 27 March 2012, 12:04:51 PM
I'm games mastering a summer pirate event heavily inspired by the French guys who did something similar and posted it here on the LAF some one or two years ago.

In total we should be about 10 guys, but several won't have a crew of their own so I'm going to paint a lot of pirates and thankfully another guy is also going to be painting a lot of pirates,. I hope to persuade him into joining me in this mini summer piratical blog of sorts.

And I hope my favourite captain and personal friend mr. Blood won't be too offended that I start it all off with some whimsical ghostly pirates. I quite like the idea of some cursed pirates roaming the seas so that they might one day return to their prior form (as inspired by the disney movies and the lucas arts games)

So I'll be damned.

Here are the first four figures by me:

Captain Lechuck and his former crew

And some close ups displaying my horrible standard  lol

Again it's Old Glory figures... I don't know what it is with me and OG. I seem to be constantly complaining about them and constantly buying more from them. Hmm!

I do think their pirate line is decent though. Just ignore the hands and the feet.  lol

I'm - still - trying to paint moderately fast so that I might even manage it all in the two (almost three) months that are left.

Thanks Jim!

And that name just get's me to the next place I wanna be at: The campaign event!

It's going to be a 'narrative' campaign (why would a campaign ever not be narrative!?) where the crews are trying to gather pieces for the map of the dead pirate Bambooza's treasure hoard.

There will be a dedicated 'encounter-player' who doesn't have a gang per se, but plays.. well.. all the things that are encountered (sea creatures and the lot).

We are currently discussing how to do the bordello, the Starbuccaneers and the Inn... I guess the first logical step would be to figure out the rules, but hey - rules smules! Oh and palm trees. We need a load of them. Good thing Andym already be showed me how.

I'm even reading R.L. Stevenson's great classic to the kids now. Where will this all end!  lol

The Lads haven't suffered from the speed painting; they look SPLENDID...it's good to see Living Impaired Guys who are still snappy dressers. VERY WELL DONE!

I can't speak for grobut, but I always use the same kind of base process for my figures... then they go with all my terrain. That takes priority rather than fancy wood plank bases for the pirates.  lol

Very nice stuff, although I could have told you so myself as I am sitting at the same table with you now.... ::)
Actually I think that that 'Jonas-type-pirate' really benefits from having been coated with gloss varnish. The bones in the noses of the cannibals look a bit like monocles, but I can assure you that it is in the piccies only, folks.

Yes as time goes by we'll definitely add more of the canon SoTMI stuff  lol

Finding a proper Guybrush has proved difficult so far... as he doesn't wear a hat and apparently no one makes miniatures in coats without hats!

And lastly I've painted up the Golden Liger that will be the center of attention of our campaign.. the object of desire around which everything revolves!

The Voodoo Queen wants it so she can conjure up some slaves and other business, the cannibals want it so they can worship  it, LeChuck wants it so he can rule the world, the pirates want it so they can get filthy rich and the red coats are too thick to think of something to do with it so they just want it so the pirates, LeChuck, the Cannibals and the Voodoo Queen wont have it.

More pirates - some of them can dubble as Royal Navy Crew.

One of them is a victim of society! (and halitosis...)

And the captain looks quite electable!

So after last year's completely and utter fai... uh.. success! We've decided to make yet another Pirate outing this year. This is what I wrote all the players:

Hear ye, hear ye!

This year pirates! will come to Åcon!

Oh well, in fact we’ll just carry on from last year’s campaign, so it may not exactly come as a surprise to some of you.

So what’s the story this year?!

Well, basically what’s happened is that Sir John Glutton has been fired as the leader of the Red Coats after last year’s debacle. Glutton was a lenient and fair leader of the colony, but the crown’s spies didn’t appreciate his affiliations with pirates, natives and weird voodoo creatures. His much heralded birthday party, to which everyone on the islands was invited, was the last straw that broke the back of the mule.

Naturally the pirates, natives and weird voodoo creatures of Port Røvede are quite frustrated with the outlook of a new administration in the colony.
First and foremost it would mean that they’d all be outlawed and secondly the new red coats would probably be a lot bossier than the old ones. God knows they might even try to uphold law and order!

It goes without saying that the new administration must be stopped!

The pirates, the natives and the weird voodoo creatures have tried to think about what to do.

At first the pirates, the natives and the weird voodoo creatures decided to go on a general strike (the Skeleton Pirates eventually joined in after a brief discussion of the nature of striking, which was voted to be generally evil and misgiving, and thus in keeping with the Grand Skeletal Charter that dictates that Skeletons may only be party to evil and misgiving dealings).

However it soon turned out that the Crown cared little for the strike. In fact it seemed to think that it was doing its job all right and that the pirates, the natives and the voodoo creatures (and the skeletons) had simply given up the fight.

Thus the pirates, natives and weird voodoo creatures (apart from the skeletons pirates who decided that this was pushing it with regards to the charter) joined a league with Glutton and his red coats. They vowed to assist him in fighting off the Crown’s redcoats and reinstating him as the proper administrator of Port Røvede.

So this year you have to choose which side you’re on!

Either you fight for Sir John Glutton or against him. OR with the skeleton pirates!

We are going to need some more red coats but it is my hope that between us all we will have enough to field a side of red coat gangs.

You are all welcome to add extra stuff/terrain to the different islands as well or strange contraptions that you think will lift the game.
